All About the Solo: Week Ten

Eric Olinger

One of the most frustrating things in IDP leagues is seeing your stud linebacker fly all over the field on game days only to see the home score keeper dilute his performance by divvying up his tackles as assists. On the flip side, if your league doesn’t score solos and assists too differently, you’ll have a better idea of which teams hand out assists like candy. Not everyone knows this, but the NFL does not recognize a tackle as an official statistic. Tackles are scored by the home team’s official score keeper and those are the stats you see on the news and websites. The league made an effort to standardize what is and isn’t a solo tackle back in 2007 when they sent a video to all NFL teams, but it is still the discretion of the home score keeper. Even after this effort there is a still a large discrepancy from team to team and week-to-week. I will be tracking this throughout the season to give you a better idea of what to expect when choosing your IDPs each week.

Vincent Rey is truly one of IDP’s unsung heroes. Every year he’s overlooked by the Bengals coaching staff and fantasy players alike but each year he steps in and steps up. Whether it is due to injury to a player or the annual Vontaze Burfict suspension, he always finds a way to make a big impact and at the end of the year he’ll be discarded to the fantasy waiver wire. I just wanted to give a tip of the cap to a blue collar linebacker. Christian Kirksey and Jamie Collins both played 100% of the defensive snaps for the Browns once again. Korey Toomer rewarded IDP owners with an impressive stat line against the Dolphins. Deion Jones appears to be back but this defense looked awful against the Eagles.

It’s taken a while to for the team to gel but the Giants defense is really coming around. Last week I talked about how much I love watching Landon Collins play football from the safety position and this week against the Bengals was no different. Olivier Vernon and the rest of the Giants defensive line spent all night harassing Andy Dalton. The Bengals couldn’t adjust to their stunts and twists and had it not been for a couple of really athletically impressive plays from Dalton, the sack total could’ve been much higher. In Green Bay, Blake Martinez and Jake Ryan continue to alternate weekly leading tackle honors. After a month long rampage, Bobby Wagner came back down to Earth with the return of Kam Chancellor, which I cautioned last week.
