DLF’s 2016 IDP Predictions: Best Dynasty Sell

Eric Olinger

I love this time of year. Even though most of our dynasty league drafts have long come and gone, there’s plenty of maneuvering to do through the month of August and into September. My favorite articles to read anywhere, not just at DLF, are roundtable type of articles. It’s awesome to hear the opinions of many fantasy football analysts when they’re asked the same question in the same context. The IDP team at DLF was asked to give their answers to who they thought would finish 2016 as the:

Aaron Donald, DT LA- Donald has had an incredible start to his career, but I think it may be tough to top last year’s 69 tackles and 11 sacks. With the return of a healthy Robert Quinn and Alec Ogletree, as well as the addition William Hayes and Dominique Easley, it will be tough for Donald to maintain those kinds of impressive numbers. –Alex Onuschco

DeAndre Levy, LB DET– Severe hip injuries are no joke. Even if he’s back, I doubt he’s 100% or lasts very long. –Dan Saino

Johnathan Cyprien, S JAX- Since he was drafted in 2013, Cyprien has been in the mix at the top tier of IDP safeties. However, his production has decreased each season and the Jaguars have added a lot of talent around him. Sell the name as a top safety before he’s not even the most productive safety on the Jaguars. Jaron Foster

DeAndre Levy, LB DET- The news surrounding DeAndre Levy‘s hip injury has been shaky, at best. He was recently activated and is practicing, but he’s taken a long time to get healthy and hip injuries are notoriously rough on NFL players. If I could get LB1 or high LB2 prices, I would move him. –Steve Wyremski

Harrison Smith, S MIN- I know he only played 13 games last year, but I think his pace was something that will continue to fall in coming years as the rest of the offense improves. You’ve got a great line and really solid linebackers, not a lot for Smith to soak up. If you can get some name cache top five defensive back value, sell sell sell. –Adam Tzikas

Telvin Smith, LB JAX- I mentioned Telvin Smith as the most overrated player in dynasty, and he’s who I’d be selling now, too. Many still look at him as a LB1, but his days are numbered. Get out while he still has value. –Zach Bahner

Telvin Smith, LB JAX- I really like Telvin, especially as a fellow FSU alumnus; however, I have difficulty seeing him maintaining his rate of production as Jacksonville continues to add premium pieces around him like Myles Jack.  Someone’s stat line is sure to suffer, and I think it could be Smith’s. –Trevor Bucherchurch

Barry Church, S DAL- He’s going to rack up a lot of tackles this season, but he’s a liability in coverage, making it easy for Dallas to cut ties and go another route at strong safety. Dallas needs to do a major overhaul on the defense and their secondary hasn’t been good since Darren Woodson retired. –Bruce Matson

Ndamukong Suh, DT MIA– If you still own him, move Ndamukong Suh before the season starts. I think his move to Miami is going to be tragic for his production. Add to that, better values at defensive tackle can be found for much cheaper. –TheFFGhost

Lawrence Timmons, LB PIT- There’s a good chance Lawrence Timmons was a top 12 linebacker in your league. Over the last four seasons he hasn’t slid beyond the top 24. However, Timmons turned 30 in May, and currently has a $15M+ cap hit for 2016, in the final year of his contract. Rookie Tyler Matakevich has showed well this preseason, and could provide Pittsburgh the ability to move on from Timmons and use his share of the salary cap to bolster other positions. Now could be a good time to “sell high” on Timmons, and set your team up for the future as well. –Mo Brewington

Joey Bosa, DE SD- I’m not a huge Bosa fan. The comparisons to J.J. Watt during the draft were overhyped! Someone in your league will over pay, sell now while you can! –Bill Edwards

Jason Pierre-Paul, DE NYG- Maybe he’s in line for a bounce back season a year removed from his injury, or maybe he’s just completely done. With how little he pressured the passer in 2015 because he couldn’t use his hands, I’m worried it’s the latter. Joseph Redemann

Malcolm Smith, LB OAK- It’s amazing how one offseason can change to career trajectory of a player. He’s coming off a year with 123 total tackles, four sacks and an interception. Those tackle numbers more than double his previous career high. To reward him the Raiders took the play calling duties from him and gave them to Ben Heeney. I’d do my best to move him before the season starts because it looks like 2015 will go down as the best year of his career, unfortunately. –Eric Olinger
