FanDuel Bargains: Week 14

Dan Meylor

tygod

Last week was an excellent one for bargains as Thomas Rawls, David Johnson, DeAngelo Williams, Javorius Allen, T.J. Yeldon, Shaun Draughn, Martavis Bryant, Danny Amendola, DeVante Parker, Marvin Jones, and Scott Chandler all outplayed their salaries after being featured in this article. Let’s do it again!

Keep in mind that these suggestions are made for large field GPP (Guaranteed Prize Pool) tournaments where players are looking for bargains to fill out their lineups after already inserting their “studs” for the week. Many of them are risky plays and shouldn’t necessarily be considered in head to head or 50/50 games.

Quarterback

Jameis Winston, QB TB

Winston ($7,800) has seen his price rise on FanDuel in recent weeks to the point that he’s now listed as the 10th-most expensive quarterback for week 14. Despite a higher price tag though, he’s still worth consideration due to his strong play of late as well as an incredible matchup against the worst defense in the league.

The Saints have allowed more fantasy points to quarterbacks than any other defense. They’ve given up multiple touchdown passes in eight straight games and a whopping 21 touchdown tosses over their last five matchups. That streak should continue on Sunday in Tampa Bay.

Tyrod Taylor, QB BUF

Although I like Winston, Taylor ($7,500) is my favorite bargain under center this week. Coming off back to back three touchdown games where he’s averaged a scintillating 27.74 FanDuel fantasy points per game, he now takes on the Eagles defense – who just happen to rank second worst in the league at giving up fantasy points to opposing passers.

The Eagles have allowed multiple touchdown passes in five straight games and 14 touchdowns to quarterbacks over the last three weeks. Taylor has looked razor sharp of late and should keep the trend going this week in Philly.

Other Options: Matt Hasselbeck ($6,600), Blaine Gabbert ($6,400) and Sam Bradford ($7,400)

Running Back

Charcandrick West, RB KC

[inlinead]Many fantasy owners will shy away from the Kansas City backfield due the split last week between West ($5,800) and Spencer Ware ($5,800). That may be a mistake however.

Although Ware scored the touchdown, West got 10 carries to Ware’s six and seemed to be the preferred choice when the Chiefs weren’t in short yardage situations. Now they’ll get a matchup with the Chargers, who have struggled to stop opposing running backs all year.

Although there’s certainly risk associated with rostering West, he shouldn’t be highly owned and has the upside to outscore his salary.

Shaun Draughn, RB SF

Although Draughn ($6,500) isn’t the most talented tailback in the league, he’s absolutely dominated the touches out of the 49ers’ backfield over the last month. In the last four weeks he’s averaged 14 carries per game and hauled in 22 passes, averaging 12.9 fantasy points per game. Now he gets a cupcake matchup against the Browns, who rank among the five worst in the league in fantasy points allowed per game to tailbacks (23.82), rushing yards allowed per game (136.3) and rushing touchdowns allowed (11).

T.J. Yeldon, RB JAX

Yeldon ($6,400) had his biggest fantasy day of the year, scoring 21.6 points on FanDuel after tallying 136 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown against the Titans. Although his season has been a bit up and down, he’s still getting the lion’s share of the carries in Jacksonville and has become more and more involved in the passing game, catching 16 passes over the last four weeks.

Now Yeldon will take on the Colts, who have given up back to back big games to running backs, allowing 97 rushing yards to Doug Martin in week 12 and 165 total yards to DeAngelo Williams on Sunday night. The last time Yeldon faced the Colts, he ran for 105 yards. Nobody should be surprised if he does it again this week.

David Johnson, RB ARI

Johnson ($6,500) helped a lot of daily players cash out last week, posting 19 fantasy points by totaling 120 yards from scrimmage and scoring against the Rams. All indications point to him continuing to dominate the touches out of the Arizona backfield on Thursday night against the Vikings.

Although Minnesota ranks among the five best defenses at stopping the run on the season, they’ve really struggled of late – allowing three straight 100-yard games to tailbacks. The middle of the Vikings’ defense is beat up bad as Linval Joseph, Eric Kendricks and Anthony Barr are all dealing with injuries. If any of them are missing (particularly Joseph) this week on short rest, Johnson should have a field day.

Other Options: Lamar Miller ($6,600), Ronnie Hillman ($6,400), Jeremy Hill ($6,400) and Eddie Lacy ($6,200) if you’re really feeling like risking it.

Wide Receiver

Sammy Watkins, WR BUF

For those looking for a No. 1 wide out at No. 2 prices, Watkins ($7,200) is your guy. Over the last two weeks, Tyrod Taylor has been doing a much better job getting his best receiver the ball and the Bills have been targeting him deep downfield. He’s burned opposing defensive backs for 267 yards and three touchdowns over those two games and now has a delicious matchup with the Eagles, who have given up more fantasy points per game to opposing wide outs (37.10) than any other defense.

Listed as the 15th-highest priced wide out, Watkins is one of the top bargains at the position this week.

Danny Amendola, WR NE

Amendola ($7,000) didn’t miss a beat after returning from a knee injury last week. He caught seven passes for 62 yards and a touchdown. Perhaps most importantly, he was a huge part of the Patriots’ offense, getting 13 targets in the game. That should continue this week against the Texans.

Doug Baldwin, WR SEA

Sometimes daily fantasy football is easy. Sometimes all you have to do is play the hot hand. Or in this case, the hot hands.

Those hands belong to Baldwin ($6,800), who has caught 24 passes for 433 yards and six touchdowns over the last four weeks. Coming off back to back multi-touchdown performances, he now faces a Ravens defense that has struggled all year to slow down opposing wide outs (with the exception of last week when the Dolphins chose not to throw).

Tied for the 24th-highest salary at the position, Baldwin is a top option for those looking for a modestly priced receiver.

Allen Hurns, WR JAX

After catching 10 passes for 153 yards and three touchdowns last week against the Titans, fantasy owners everywhere are going ga-ga over Allen Robinson ($8,500). While I like A-Rob as much (or more) than the next guy, this week represents a perfect time to pivot off the talented former Nittany Lion. Why not pivot to his teammate?

Before Robinson’s huge performance, he and Hurns ($6,600) had similar numbers and were priced relatively equally on a weekly basis on FanDuel. That’s changed drastically. Hurns is now priced as a WR3 and has a tasty matchup with the Colts, who he torched for 116 yards and a touchdown on 11 catches back in October. Needless to say, Hurns is my favorite bargain at wide receiver this week.

Jordan Matthews, WR PHI

Matthews ($6,100) has caught a touchdown in two consecutive weeks. Although he’s still not putting up big numbers he has a nice matchup against the Bills, who have allowed 85-plus receiving yards to a wide receiver in four consecutive weeks and have had a lot of trouble stopping opposing passing games over the last month.

He’s an incredibly risky play, but Matthews is unlikely to be highly owned and has the potential to have a big game against Buffalo.

Other Options: Emmanuel Sanders ($7,100), Jeremy Maclin ($6,900), DeSean Jackson ($6,700), Anquan Boldin ($5,900), and DeVante Parker ($5,900)

Tight End

Scott Chandler, TE NE

Although his price rose from last week, Chandler ($5,800) is once again a top bargain at tight end (as long as Rob Gronkowski doesn’t return from injury). He was slowed down for much of the game on Sunday but came through in the fourth quarter and finished with four catches for 61 yards and a touchdown. Houston has been good against the tight end throughout the year, but Chandler has been a huge part of the Patriots’ offense and that won’t change. At least until Gronk is back.

Other options: Austin Seferian-Jenkins ($5,500)
