Devy Scouts Conference Review: Pac-12 and Around the Nation
With college football in full swing, we’ll be bringing you a review each and every week. These recaps will feature sections for “Premier Conference Performer,” “Rising Players,” “Falling Players,” and a special Freshman spotlight. These weekly reviews will keep you up-to-date on all the happenings in devy leagues and allow you to keep tabs on future dynasty league assets. By the time the NFL Draft rolls around, you won’t see too many strangers.

PAC-12
Premier Conference Performer
Vernon Adams Jr QB, (Senior) Oregon
20/25 passing, 407 yards, six touchdowns, one interception vs. USC
Vernon Adams had a party, and everyone was invited. His six touchdowns went to six different receivers. His touchdowns were all from long range. He hit Bralon Addison for 48 yds and Evan Baylis for a 52-yard catch and run touchdown in the first quarter. In the second quarter, he connected with Darren Carrington and Kani Benoit for long scores. Then he finished off his momentous day by connecting with Dwayne Stanford and Charles Nelson. Adams Jr has had a nice senior season as he has thrown for 22 touchdowns and just six interceptions. He also has 2,080 passing yards with a 62.9 completion percentage. Oregon has won their last five games and six of seven. They currently second in the Pac-12 North and will take on Oregon State in the last game of the season.
Rising Players
Jared Goff QB, CAL (Junior)
37/54 passing, 386 yards, two touchdowns, zero interceptions vs. Stanford
Jared Goff put up a nice show against Stanford, even though they were blown out 35-22. Goff finished with a 78.9 quarterback rating and completed 68 percent of his passes. His 386 passing yards was the third most on the season. In his last two games, Goff has been flaming hot. Throwing for 759 yards, eight touchdowns and just one interception. He hit Bryce Treggs and Darius Powe. Goff hit Treggs for the longest score. Goff hit him down the middle of the field, and he fell into the end zone for the score. The junior quarterback has 3710 yards passing with 32 touchdowns and just 13 interceptions. Cal will take on Arizona State for the regular season final game.
Christian McCaffrey RB, Stanford (Sophomore)
29 carries, 192 yards, zero touchdowns, one catch, 49 yards, one touchdown vs. Cal
It was the Christian McCaffrey show against Cal. He nearly had 200 yards rushing, but did have 241 yards from scrimmage with a touchdown. McCaffrey caught the screen pass, bounced off a tackler, broke another tackle and then blasted his way for 49 yards for a score. http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=espn:14190818 His longest run went for 24-yards. On the season, McCaffrey has been stellar. His 260 attempts have netted him 1,546-yards and seven touchdowns. He also has caught 34 passes for 416 yards and three touchdowns. The No. 9 ranked Cardinals will take on No. 6 Notre Dame in the final contest.
Devin Lucien WR, Arizona State (Senior)
Nine catches, 190 yards, one touchdown vs. Arizona
Devin Lucien had his best game of his college career catching nine balls for 190 yards and one touchdown. His receptions and yards were the most he has ever had in his four years playing for Arizona State. He helped take down division rival Arizona 52-37. His touchdown went for 59 yards, and it put Arizona State in front 14-0 in the first quarter. On the season, Lucien has modest stats, 49 receptions for 730 yards and four touchdowns. The Sun Devils will take on Cal for the last game of the regular season.
Falling Players
Cade Aspay QB, Colorado (Freshman)
26/40 passing, 238 passing yards, zero touchdowns, two interceptions vs. Washington State
Cade Aspay got the starting nod last week and did an adequate job against USC. He threw for 128 yards and two touchdowns. This week he threw for more yards (238), but more interceptions (2) and did not get Colorado in the end zone. The Cougars of Washington State hammered the Buffaloes 27-3. Aspay has gotten the last two starts to get him more comfortable going into next season, and he should be an interesting prospect to observe. Even on this bad throwing day he still completed 65 percent of his passes.
Phillip Lindsay RB, Colorado (Sophomore)
16 carries, 78 yards, zero touchdowns, three catches, six yards, zero touchdowns vs. Washington State
Not only did the Cougars lock down freshman quarterback Cade Aspay, but they also kept Phillip Lindsay from doing anything either. His 16 carries for 78 yards netted him a nice 4.9 yards per carry average but when you take into account his longest run of 32 yards, that average drops down to 3.06. The combination of quarterback and running back not performing is the reason the Buffaloes only had three points at the end of the game. Buffalo will hope to get back on track as they have now lost four straight games. They will take on No. 23 Utah to try to end on a strong note.
JuJu Smith-Schuster WR, USC (Sophomore)
Five catches, 57 yards, zero touchdowns vs. Oregon
JuJu Smith-Schuster has had a fine season this year. The sophomore has 68 receptions for 1,217 yards and 10 touchdowns. Against Oregon however, he put up a dud. It was his second-lowest yardage producing day and not hitting pay dirt snapped his two-game scoring streak. His five receptions are not bad, but his 11.4 yards per catch average was his second lowest in the season. Thank goodness for his 16-yard long, or he would average just 10 yards a catch, this would have easiest been his lowest. The Trojans take on No. 22 UCLA next week for the chance to take down the division title.
Freshman Spotlight
Jake Browning QB, Washington
18/20 passing, 211 yards, four touchdowns, zero interception vs. Oregon State
Jake Browning was on his A-game against the Oregon State Beavers on Saturday. Not only did he finish with a 96.1 quarterback rating, but he completed 90 percent of his passes as well. He ended up matching his season high for touchdowns with four. He hit Brayden Lenius for two scores while Jaydon Mickens and Joshua Perkins each had one. His longest score was a 19-yard pass to Mickens. His yardage total was a little low, but on average he only throws for 224 yards per game. On the season, he has 16 touchdowns with nine interceptions. Washington will take on Washington State next week for their final regular game.

Jalen Richard RB, Southern Michigan (Senior)
22 carries 161 yards, four touchdowns vs. Old Dominion
Jalen Richard had his second-largest yardage day this season as he rushed for 161 yards, and he tied his highest touchdown production on the year with four. Last week he lost his consecutive streak of 100+ yards, mostly due to the 65-10 drubbing of Rice, but he got back on track against Old Dominion, making it four of five games he has broken the century mark. On the season, he has 1,047 yards on 168 attempts and 12 touchdowns. Three of four of his scores came from 10 yards or within, except his last. He took that carry for 54 yards. The Eagles will take on Louisiana for their final regular season game, and a chance to win their division.
Rising
Blake Kemp QB, Eastern Carolina (Junior)
35/51 passing, 465 passing yards, four touchdowns vs. UCF
Blake Kemp took his whole game to the UCF Knights, and it ended in a 44-7 victory. Kemp had his second-highest passing attempts on the season, and completed his longest pass on the year with a 69-yard connection, and his 465 yards was also among his best. He connected with Isaiah Jones twice, Trevon Brown and Brandon Bishop once for scores. Kemp has tossed several interceptions this year as his 15-10 touchdown to ratio points out, but he did not throw one against UCF. He also has 2,343 yards on the season. Kemp is a dropback passer, so his running statistics are almost non-existent. Eastern Michigan will finish the regular season out against Cincinnati.
Kareem Hunt, Toledo (Junior)
29 carries, 153 yards, two touchdowns vs. Bowling Green
Toledo continued their winning ways and defeated Bowling Green, who was undefeated in their conference until Saturday. The Rockets have only lost once all season, taking a five-point defeat to Northern Illinois, Hunt was going to make sure they didn’t go down again. He scored from 11 and five yards out. On the season, Hunt has rushed for 755 yards on 143 carries and has scored nine times. Toledo will now face another tough opponent in Western Michigan for the final game of the regular season.
Gehrig Dieter WR, Bowling Green (Junior)
13 catches, 103 yards, three touchdowns vs. Toledo
Gehrig Dieter did what he could when facing Toledo. His 13 catches for 103 yards and three touchdowns are a testament to that. Eventually, Bowling Green would fall and lose their first conference game of the season. His 13 receptions and three touchdowns were season highs, and his 103 yards was his third-highest output this year. All three of Dieter’s scores came from within 12 yards He has 71 receptions for 801 yards and eight touchdowns as his junior season is coming to a close.
Falling
Alex McGough QB, Florida International (Sophomore)
17/30 passing, 95 yards, zero touchdowns, two interceptions vs. Western Kentucky
Something happened must have happened in the game against Charlotte. After the victory, McGough had seven touchdowns and just two interceptions in his last three games. He also had seven games where he has had multiple touchdowns, and four of those seven went for three scores. His lowest passing game was 115 yards up to that point. Now in the last two weeks, McGough has not thrown a touchdown and had three interceptions. He also has only totaled 193 yards in those games and has had his lowest completion percentage and quarterback rating as well. He will try to turn it around next season as a junior.
Jamauri Bogan RB, Western Michigan (Freshman)
15 carries, 70 yards, zero touchdowns vs. Northern Illinois
After winning five games straight the Broncos have now lost two games in a row, Bogan rushed for 70 yards on 15 carries (4.7 ypc), but most of it came on a 23 yard run. Meaning his 14 other attempts only netted him 47 yards on the ground (3.3). This is his more honest yards per carry average. To make matters worse is that Bogan is not a pass catcher and did not score a touchdown as he had in the last five games. He will try to turn it around as Western Michigan takes on Toledo in their final game of the regular season.
Keyarris Garrett WR, Tulsa (Senior)
Four catches, 71 yards, zero touchdowns vs. Navy
No doubting that Keyarris Garrett is one of the better wide receivers in the nation, His 78 receptions for 1,235 yards and six touchdowns is proof of that. Against Navy, however, He matched his second-lowest receiving day and fourth-smallest yardage output on the season. He did make some nice plays as he had 17.8 yards per catch average, which was his one the highest averages this year. Tulsa will take on Tulane for their regular season final game.
Freshman Spotlight
Brent Stockstill QB, Middle Tennessee
27/38 passing, 322 yards, three touchdowns, one interception vs. North Texas
Brent Stockstill is having a superb freshman season. He has 3,421 yards thrown, 34 touchdowns, and just eight interceptions. He also has completed 65.8 percent of his passes. Against North Texas, it was just a normal day for the young stud as he tossed three touchdowns and had 322 yards passing. All three of his touchdowns came within 12 yards, and he hit three different receivers for scores. The win against North Texas now puts the Blue Raiders on a three-game winning streak and four of the last five. They will take on Texas-San Antonio for the last game of the regular season.
