With college football in full swing, we’ll be bringing you a review each and every week. These recaps will feature sections for “Premier Conference Performer,” “Rising Players,” “Falling Players” and a special Freshman spotlight. These weekly reviews will keep you up-to-date on all the happenings in devy leagues and allow you to keep tabs on future dynasty league assets. By the time the NFL Draft rolls around, you won’t see too many strangers.

PAC-12

Premier Conference Performer

Cody Kessler, QB USC (Senior)
19/33 passing, 375 passing yards, five touchdowns, one interception, three carries, six yards vs. Arizona State

Kessler had another amazing week as he fired five touchdowns and got picked just once. He opened the game with an 87-yard touchdown pass to Adoree’ Jackson. He then threw three touchdowns in the second quarter, two of them to JuJu Smith-Schuster. Kessler finished his terrific night with a fourth quarter touchdown to Isaac Whitney, moving past Rodney Peete into fifth on USC’s career completions list with 642 and past Carson Palmer into third in career touchdowns (74).

Rising Players

Travis Wilson, QB Utah (Senior)
18/30 passing, 227 yards, four touchdowns, six carries, 100 yards, one touchdown vs. Oregon

Wilson put Utah on the map and actually earned them a first place ranking vote. The Utes have been playing strong football this season and they throttled the Ducks of Oregon 62-20. Not only did Wilson have a solid game passing the ball, but he also ran for 100 yards and a score. He hit three different Utah wide receivers for touchdowns and found Caleb Repp twice. Utah will now face #24 California and Arizona State.

Christian McCaffery, RB Stanford (Sophomore)
30 carries, 206 yards, zero touchdowns, one catch, 38 yards vs. Oregon State

McCaffery ran the Beavers to death as he busted loose for 206 yards. The surprising thing is that he could not find the end zone in all that ground covered. McCaffery is a versatile athlete as he can run as well as catch. On the season, he has 445 yards rushing on 88 attempts but no touchdowns. He has also caught 13 passes for 157 yards and one touchdown. The Cardinals play Arizona on Saturday, followed up by #7 UCLA

Jordan Villamin, WR Oregon State (Sophomore)
Seven catches, 138 yards, one touchdown vs. Stanford

Villamin was the lone bright spot for the Oregon State Beavers. His touchdown was a 48-yard pass from Seth Collins pulled Oregon State within 10 points with 13:42 remaining, but they could never get any closer. On the season Villamin has struggled a bit. Even though he has three touchdowns on the year, he has only one 100-yard game and 17 catches for 279 yards. They have next week off and then face Arizona.

Falling Players

Jake Browning QB, Washington (Freshman)
17/28 passing, 152 passing yards, zero touchdowns, two interceptions vs. California

After two stellar games against Sacramento State and Utah State where he threw for over 700 yards and five touchdowns, Jake Browning laid an egg for Washington this week. Not only could he not get the team into the end zone on his arm, but was not very accurate and couldn’t sustain many drives. The first two-drives went three-and-out and the first touchdown was done solely by the feet of Dwayne Washington. Browning will look to bounce back against #17 USC and Oregon.

Vic Enwere RB, California (Sophomore)
23 carries, 84 yards, one touchdown, one reception, minus two yards vs. Washington

As bad as Browning was against the Bears of California, Vic Enwere was just as awful against the Huskies. He found little running room and had his longest gain go for 24-yards. This left 22 carries for just 55-yards or a pedestrian 2.5 yards per carry average. He has had an up and down sophomore season for the Bears. On the season he has 49 carries for 209 yards and five touchdowns. Cal will face Washington State then on the road to #10 Utah.

Cayleb Jones, WR Arizona (Junior)
Four catches, 44 yards, zero touchdowns vs. UCLA

Arizona took their first loss against UCLA on Saturday and part of that reason was Cayleb Jones underperforming – this marks the second week in a row where Jones failed to get things going. He had only two catches and 20 yards against Northern Arizona last week. He will now have to face #18 Stanford on the road followed up by Oregon State at home. On the season, Jones has 15 receptions for 216 yards and just one touchdown.

Freshman Spotlight

Josh Rosen, QB UCLA
19/28 passing, 284 yards, two touchdowns, four rushes, seven yards, one touchdown vs. Arizona

Rosen has struggled the last two games, so this was a nice bounce back effort against a strong Pac-12 team. Against UNLV and BYU he could only manage 329 yards with two touchdowns and four interceptions. This was going to be a true test for Rosen and he passed with flying colors. Not only did he score three touchdowns, but his zero interceptions was a nice sight as well. He will have many more up and down games, but this true freshman is truly special. His next two games he faces at home against Arizona and then on the road to take on #18 Stanford.

Nation

Premier Nation Performer

Ed’Marques Batties, WR Middle Tennessee State (Senior)
13 catches, 175 yards, two touchdowns vs. Illinois

Batties showed Illinois that even a Big 12 school is hard to stop him. He has been doing it all year long for Middle Tennessee State. He has eight catches 123 yards and two touchdowns against Jacksonville State and five for 120 and three scores against Charlotte. The only team thus far to hold him in check has been Alabama, and he still caught four passes. Look for him to continue to bring the goods as he faces off against Vanderbilt and Marshall in the next two games.

Rising

Brett Rypien, QB Boise State (Freshman)
24/35 passing, 321 passing yards, three touchdowns vs. Virginia

For those who can remember Mark Rypien, Brett is his nephew and he threw like it against the Cavaliers. His favorite target seemed to be wide receiver Thomas Sperbeck as he connected twice with him for touchdowns. One went for 30-yards, and the other was a 64-yarder. He hit Sperbeck on a beautiful 40-yard pass down the right sidelines, and the receiver did the rest for the score. Rypien will test his skills against Hawaii and Colorado State in the next few weeks.

Casey Martin, WR Southern Mississippi (Senior)
Eight catches, 102 yards, two touchdowns vs. Nebraska

Southern Mississippi proved they could play with the big boys. Casey Martin proved otherwise. His 102 yards and two touchdowns kept the Golden Eagles in the game as he caught a 21-yard and a 19-yard strikes from Nick Mullens. Martin now has two straight 100-yard games including two touchdowns in each. Southern Mississippi will now compete against the University of North Texas and Marshall.

Chris Prosise, RB Notre Dame (Senior)
15 carries, 149 yards, two touchdowns vs. Massachusettes

Prosise is showing that he is someone dynasty owners should keep on close watch. He opened the scoring against UMass with a 57-yard run and then his second score came in the third quarter as he hit pay dirt from 16 yards out. Next week he will have to prove his worth as the Fighting Irish take on #12 Clemson and then Navy.

Falling

James Tabary, QB Arkansas State (Freshman)
18/35 passing, 223 passing yards, no passing touchdowns, three interceptions, eight rushes, 54 yards vs. Toledo

Tabary felt some freshman growing pains when facing the Toledo On the most part this season has been a difficult one for Tabary. He has only 374 yards passing and eight interceptions to go along with no touchdowns. I guess the coaching staff has faith that Tabary will get better?

Noel Thomas, WR Connecticut (Junior)
Five catches, 78 yards, zero touchdowns vs. Navy

After his seven catch 86 yard performance, it was disappointing to see Noel Thomas drop off a bit. He is still without a touchdown and has just 19 catches in four games. It might not be all his fault as the Huskies are just .500 on the season and have lost their last two games. Look for them to try to bounce back against a tough BYU team this week and then at UCF for week six.

Adam Hine, RB BYU (Senior)
Eight rushes, 33 yards, zero touchdowns, one catch, five yards, zero touchdowns vs. Michigan

The whole BYU team fell apart against Michigan, but it didn’t help that they could not get anything out of the running game. Adam Hine had a run of 29 yards but then fell flat, as he could only muster another four yards on seven tries. Adam Hine had just come off two strong games as he rushed for 149 yards against UCLA with one touchdown. Against Boise State, he had 93 yards rushing and one score. He will try to get back to form as the Broncos take on Connecticut and then East Carolina.

Freshman Spotlight

Hayden Moore, QB Cincinnati
31/53 passing, 557 yards, four touchdowns, seven carries, seven yards, zero touchdowns vs. Memphis

When Gunner Kiel went down on with an injury, freshman Hayden Moore took over and passed for a school-record 557 yards and threw four touchdown passes for Cincinnati. His second longest strike went to Chris Moore for a 68-yard touchdown. Moore also threw a 21-yd strike to Shaq Washington on third-and-15. Moore finished the game with two more touchdowns to Max Morrison accounting for 70-yards of total offense (40-yd and 30-yd). He will be the starter in next week’s game against Miami (Ohio).
