Heads Up: Week Three DFS College Football

One key to winning in Dynasty football is a broad and in-depth knowledge of players. Dynasty Scouts does a great job of letting you know of the upcoming stars to be aware of. Our hope is this article series is going to be another extension of expanding everyone’s mental library of college players. Chris Heil and Nick Whalen will be going up against each other weekly in a Heads Up competition in college DFS. The DFS industry is expanding and if you play in the college portion, hopefully our picks can help you win this year.

Week One

Nick Whalen 93.36 points
Chris Heil 48.96 points

Week Two

Chris Heil 116.34 points
Nick Whalen 75.42 points

This week, Chris and I decided to only make lineups for the early Saturday slate of games.

Nick Whalen’s Picks

Quarterback

Thomas Sirk, Duke
vs. Northwestern $6,600

I pinched myself after I saw the price of Sirk this week. I view this similarly to someone offering you a trade in dynasty that’s an insta-accept. All you do is click yes and smile. Sirk has been incredible to start the season for Duke. Passing-wise, he has had over 288 yards in both games, completing better than 67% of his attempts and posting at least two or more touchdowns with no interceptions. Sirk is also the leading rusher for Duke with 154 yards and a touchdown.

Running Back

Jordan Howard, Indiana
vs. Western Kentucky $8,300

This was one of the easier picks for me. Howard ran for almost 1,600 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2014 at Alabama-Birmingham. Now at Indiana, it’s more of the same as he has become the workhorse of that offense. He has started the season with games of 20/145/3 and 27/159/0. Howard will get plenty of work this week against a WKU defense that just allowed Kenneth Dixon to have a monster game last week.

Elijah Hood, North Carolina
vs. Illinois $7,000

The training camp battle for the starting running back at North Carolina now seems to be settled. Elijah Hood has had over 13 or more carries in both games to start the season and has almost five times the amount of rushing yards of the next best running back. It also helps that Hood is the goal line back and already has a reception. Illinois isn’t known for a stifling defense and I expect this to be a high scoring affair.

Wide Receiver

Keevan Lucas, Tulsa
@ Oklahoma $6,800

If you like high ceiling players, Lucas is your guy. He finished week one with a 10/193/2 line, along with a couple of carries on the ground. If you like high floor players, Lucas is your guy as well. In 2014, he posted over 80 receiving yards in nine of his 12 games. However, he scored a touchdown in two of the remaining three games and had 68 total yards in the other. Bad games just don’t seem happen to happen with this player. It shocked me when I saw him available at this price.

Tajae Sharpe, UMass
vs Temple $6,700

UMass has played only one game in 2015 and it didn’t take long for Sharpe to remind us of his impressive 2014 season. He finished the game with an 11/138/0 line at Colorado and has an easier matchup this week vs Temple. If Sharpe has less than 5/80/1 I will be shocked because he is that offense.

Geronimo Allison, Illinois
@ North Carolina $5,800

In week one, Allison posted 2/57/1 and followed it up last week with 8/124/0. Allison is a big, 6’4” 200 lbs. receiver who uses his size to shield defenders from the football. He’s become the go-to receiver for Illinois in 2015 and will likely see many targets in a game they should be trailing in.

Tight End

Tyler Higbee, Western Kentucky
@ Indiana $3,700

With two straight good performances, Higbee is looking to be a solid DFS TE play all year long. In a high flying passing attack, I would be grabbing the ultra productive TE.

Editor’s Note: Last week 201 DLF community members split $7,000 in prize money in the first week of the DLF Football Championship. A first-time-ever DFS player took first place winning $700 and a spot in the $20,000 championship round. You too can compete and win in WEEK TWO of the DLF Football Championship. The prize pool for week two remains unchanged from week one, so you can jump in and have a shot at the same great weekly prizes. Because this is a contest for DLF patrons and not advertised to the general public, there are fewer entries, increasing your odds of winning! So go check out the contest for more information, and good luck! fdchart

Chris Heil’s Picks

Quarterback

Brandon Doughty, Western Kentucky
$8,900 @ Indiana

I looked at games in which I thought there could be a possibility of a shootout. Indiana and their terrible pass defense won the cake on this one as Doughty will likely need to ice down him arm after this contest. He is going to sling the ball a ton and I look to reap the rewards for his valiant efforts. Leon Allen is the lead back for WKU, but he will be absent from this match up due to injury – this gives me another reason to believe the offense will look to pass more. In last week’s match-up, Doughty passed for 441 yards on 28 pass attempts.

Running Back

Jordan Howard, Indiana
$8,300 vs Western Kentucky

I always try to focus on how defenses do against certain positions. WKU has been terrible against the run this season as they are giving up 5.36 yards per carry. It doesn’t even matter if you have a talented running back – he is going to blow up when he plays against this unit. However, Indiana does have a talented running back and I believe he is going to post some huge numbers. Howard currently ranks fifth in rushing nationally with 304 rushing yards, while averaging over six yards per carry.

Patrick Skov, Georgia Tech
$5,200 @ Notre Dame

I used Skov a lot in last week’s tournaments and he cashed in for me with 72 yards and three touchdowns on just 12 carries. As usual, Notre Dame has a pretty decent defense. However, teams that run the option tend to fluster the Irish. I like Skov’s chances as he should get more carries than any other back, sports a 5.3 yards per carry average and has the highest number of touchdowns on the team.

Wide Receiver

Jordan Westerkamp, Nebraska
$6,300 @ Miami

Westerkamp is a WR1 at a reasonable price and we needed that since we coughed up some big money to hit it up big with our quarterback in this lineup. Westerkamp leads the team in targets with 16 and also has a team-high ten receptions. He has been able to score a touchdown in each of the first two games as well. His numbers don’t really pop at you, but Nebraska hasn’t really been challenged. The starters should play the whole game and Westerkamp should be a reliable play with a cheaper price tag.

Geronimo Allison, Illinois
$5,800 @ North Carolina

I only picked him because I wanted to yell “Geronimo” all day. Allison is the favorite target on the offense and it was made very clear in week two as he hauled in eight passes for 124 yards. He is averaging a robust 18 yards a reception – that number should drop this game, but you have to love the deep threat. Allison has averaged 90.5 receiving yards a game this season and I look for that trend to continue.

Christian Krik, Texas A&M
$6,300 vs Nevada

Kirk has now found the end zone in back-to-back games. He is facing a Nevada defense that is just awful against the aerial attack as well. Nevada has given up 30.5 points a game (61 total points) so far this season. Kirk is a Freshman, but he leads the team in receptions with ten and receiving yards with 149. The next closest receiver is Ricky Seals-Jones and he has just 83 receiving yards on the season. Kirk looks to be the target to go after here.

Tyler Higbee, Western Kentucky
$3,700 @ Indiana

I had to stack in this match-up as it was just inevitable. Higbee is hands-down the best tight end on this slate and it’s worth paying up for him in this match-up. He has 11 receptions and 190 yards on the season in just two games. He also gains yards each time he catches the ball as he is averaging a monstrous 17 yards per catch.
