One key to winning in Dynasty football is a broad and in-depth knowledge of players. Dynasty Scouts does a great job of letting you know of the upcoming stars to be aware of. Our hope is this article series is going to be another extension of expanding everyone’s mental library of college players. Chris Heil and Nick Whalen will be going up against each other weekly in a
Heads Up competition in college DFS. The DFS industry is expanding and if you play in the college portion, hopefully our picks can help you win this year. If not, this series should allow you to become even more familiar with tomorrow’s dynasty stars.

Nick Whalen’s Picks:

Quarterback

Mitch Leidner, Minnesota
@ Colorado State $6,900

The Gophers had their hands full in week one against TCU, but they were in the game until the end. Leidner showed he can hang with one of the best teams in the country – he had 35 pass attempts and 12 rushing attempts, which is exactly what you want from your DFS quarterback. To further state the point of his rushing ability, Leidner had ten rushing touchdowns in 2014 and seven in 2013.

Running Backs

LeShun Daniels Jr., Iowa
@ Iowa State $7,300

The coaches were raving about Daniels in the off-season after he shed some weight. Injuries have limited his career thus far, but he’s a workhorse when healthy due his large frame. Due to his 26 carries in week one, it appears Iowa does indeed plan to give him the full workload.

Paul James, Rutgers
vs Washington State $6,900

This should be a high scoring game and James should see a lot of action. He is listed as probable after sustaining a lower body injury. This is more of a concern for James because he tore his ACL early in 2014, but he’s a good value play here. The Cougars defense is bad and James should gobble up points.

Wide Receivers

Leonte Carroo, Rutgers
vs Washington State $7,400

Three receptions in week one for three touchdowns for Carroo. He’s a big time player and is on many devy rosters awaiting his NFL arrival. Carroo is a good athlete with a thick frame and puts forth a lot of effort. In what could potentially be a high scoring affair, give me the best player on the field.

Tajae Sharpe, UMass
@ Colorado $6,900

I’ve been a long time believer in Tajae Sharpe and it doesn’t end when I talk about DFS. He was tenth in FBS in receiving yards in 2014 and only two other players were underclassmen. Sharpe is a very good route runner with sure hands and a solid athlete. The passing game runs through Sharpe and he has big time potential this week. He’s a good gamble at a lower price tag relative to the other top tier players.

Dom Williams, Washington State
@ Rutgers $5,500

If you’re new to DFS, Washington State is similar to the greatest show on turf version of the Rams. They throw the football more than any other team by quite a large margin. Owning anyone in that passing game is a good bet, which is why I’m grabbing Dom Williams at a lower price tag relative to some of the other receivers on his own team. In a week one loss to Portland State (yuck), Williams led the team in receiving yards and was second in receptions.

Tight End

Jake Butt, Michigan
vs Oregon State $3,700

With a breakout performance in week one featuring eight receptions for 93 yards and a touchdown, Butt is no longer a secret in DFS and devy circles. He’s the highest priced tight end, but the upside is so much greater than his competition. The situation is similar with Gronkowski – you pay for the differential in points relative to the price. Let’s hope he can perform as well as Gronk this week!

Editor’s Note: Make sure you enter the DLF FanDuel Football Championship, exclusively for followers of DLF. We have a $20,000 prize pool for the final round alone here, folks. Chris Heil’s Picks:

Quarterback

Nick Stevens, Colorado State
vs MIN $5,900

Putting a huge game together in week one, Stevens looked nearly perfect in his first career start. He finished the game completing 20-of-28 passes for 289 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions. You must keep in mind Savannah State is not good (they did not win a game in 2014). With that said, I think Stevens has the confidence to perform in a match-up against a defense like Minnesota’s. He won’t throw for five touchdowns, but his price point is low enough to make him worth the shot.

Running Backs

Brandon Radcliff, Louisville
vs HOU $7,700

Radcliff has a difficult defense to match up against in week one. His numbers are not crazy like most college players but this is good for his ownership numbers. He played a physical SEC defense and was able to take 17 carries and turn in 76 yards and two touchdowns. I love this play against a Houston defense that struggles against the run.

De’Veon Smith, Michigan
vs Oregon State $6,900

This will be Michigan’s first game at home. Playing in the big house changes everything and home field advantage is huge in college football. With that being said, I’m telling you to plug and play the guy who averaged 2.8 yards per carry in week one – that’s right, Smith ran for just 47 yards on 17 carries. WOOF! The good news is no one even came close in carries and will be going against a poor run defense. This is Michigan’s chance to make a statement after losing in week one.

Wide Receivers

William Fuller, Notre Dame
@ Virginia $7,900

In 2014, Fuller was able to post 76 receptions for 1,094 yards and 15 touchdowns. In week one against Texas, he didn’t miss a beat and caught seven passes for 142 yards and two touchdowns. Pay up and play the hot hand and ride this guy out. He is virtually guaranteed to score you fantasy points.

Demarcus Ayers, Houston
@ Louisville $5,700

Being able to snag any WR1 on any team for a price point like this is a golden. Ayers showed up in week one with ten catches for 121 yards against Tennessee Tech. The fact Ayers caught six more passes than any other receiver makes this play seem nice. Louisville will be better than Houston, but they will heavily target Ayers again.

Gabe Marks, Washington State
@ Rutgers $6,800

Marks came out looking like the number one receiver at WSU in week one. He posted six catches for 76 yards and a touchdown.  If you noticed, I typically play WR1s when they are on the road – they tend to be the most reliable and quarterbacks tend to key on one player. Marks is one of the players who will get a lot of focus.

Tight End

Jake Butt, Michigan
vs Oregon State $3,700

Tight End is always a difficult position to roster in daily fantasy leagues. I’m fine with paying up and getting a player you know will produce. There is nothing more irritating then hoping a player will score and seeing him put up a goose egg. Butt had a solid week one outing with eight catches, 93 yards and a touchdown. He did all that in a loss imagine what he can do against a lesser defense.
