The Dynasty Aftermath: Week Seventeen

Welcome to DLF’s Dynasty Aftermath. This Tuesday staple is our longest running signature piece as we have a little fun after a tough week at the Dynasty League Football office. You’ll find this article will review the week’s happenings in a variety of ways and help set you up for the coming weeks as we spin around the league in the way we know best. The final week of the season featured some unusually explosive performances and a few really serious and troublesome duds as well. In short, we have a lot to talk about.

Let’s take a look back at the final week that was!

Week Seventeen Fantasy MVP

Wow.

There’s really not much more to say about Odell Beckham Jr. He’s gone from a player who was in the doghouse at the beginning of the year, to a legitimized first round rookie pick, to a realistic first round overall dynasty pick to possibly the most coveted asset in all of dynasty leagues in the span of a few short months.  Beckham polished off his amazing rookie campaign with 12 catches for 185 yards and a touchdown against the Eagles.

If you take Beckham’s last four games, he averaged an absurd 10.7 catches, 151.5 yards and 1.75 touchdowns per game.  If you take his numbers and extrapolate them over the span of a full season (remember, he missed the first four games), he set a pace for 121 catches, 1,740 yards and 16 touchdowns as a rookie. While that pace is unlikely to be matched next season just because it’s nearly impossible historically, the return of Victor Cruz isn’t going to dent his potential a bit. Beckham is a legitimate WR1 in dynasty leagues and the only question now is if he is THE WR1.

Week Seventeen Fantasy LVP

Mike Wallace picked the worst possible time to put up a goose egg as he went catch less and may have actually quit on the Dolphins this week (depending on who you ask). Wallace has struggled to fit into an offense that can’t get him the deep ball, but his attitude is obviously wearing thin in Miami. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see him elsewhere next season, but his dynasty stock has taken a pretty big hit this week as he’s likely now seen as a truly “me-first” player.

Lineup Fun

Gut Checks

I’d be worried if I think Jonathan Stewart can keep this up (it’s just too much fun to keep his name alive on DLF)

I’d be worried if I bought into the Jonas Gray hype after one fluky week.

I’d be worried if I missed on one of these rookie receivers. Holy cow!

I’d be worried if I owned CJ Spiller. He really needs a new home and should get it this off-season.

I’d be worried if I owned DeMarco Murray. That’s 449 touches and counting.

I’d be worried if had Drew Brees as my QB1. He’s been great, but this year was just off for some reason.

I’d be worried if I didn’t own Antonio Brown. Wow.

I’d be worried if I thought Lamar Miller was suddenly this good.

I’d be worried if I owned Alfred Morris. This year was a bit of a mess.

I’d be worried if I owned Jay Cutler. This year was more than a bit of a mess.

I’d be worried if I didn’t think Roy Helu was a sneaky pickup right about now.

I’d be worried if I had my team built around aging players like Arian Foster, Anquan Boldin and Brandon Marshall and didn’t win a title. The clock is ticking.

I’d be worried if I didn’t think the end was near for Trent Richardson.

I’d be worried if I had given up on Cam Newton.

I’d be worried if I thought Matt Asiata still had value.

I’d be worried if I thought Justin Forsett wasn’t going to be coveted by someone this off-season.

I’d be worried if I hadn’t cut bait on Jake Locker.

I’d be worried if I owned Chris Johnson. He looks cooked.

I’d be worried if I wasn’t very curiously watching where Marc Trestman may end up,

I’d be worried if I thought the Jets suddenly had it figured out.

I’d be worried if I had Larry Fitzgerald. He just didn’t look the same, though the quarterbacks didn’t help much.

I’d be worried if I owned Josh Gordon. Seriously, what is happening here?

I’d be worried if I had Johnny Manziel. This was so predictable.

I’d be worried if I had Cordarrelle Patterson. Unfortunately, this wasn’t.

I’d be worried if I owned Christine Michael. Even if Marshawn Lynch walks, he’s not just going to be handed the job.

I’d be worried if I had Pierre Garcon. This was a total disaster.

I’d be worried if I wasn’t preparing to follow DLF all off-season. We’re going to kill it again this year!

I’ll work on a year-end edition of the Dynasty Aftermath, so keep your eyes peeled! You can follow Ken on twitter @DLF_KenK.
