The Dynasty Aftermath: Week Fourteen

Ken Kelly

bell

Welcome to DLF’s Dynasty Aftermath. This Tuesday staple is our longest running signature piece as we have a little fun after a tough week at the Dynasty League Football office. You’ll find this article will review the week’s happenings in a variety of ways and help set you up for the coming weeks as we spin around the league in the way we know best. Opening week featured some unusually explosive performances and a few really serious and troublesome duds as well. In short, we have a lot to talk about.

Let’s take a look back at the week that was!

Week Fourteen Fantasy MVP

It’s just too hard to overlook the run Le’Veon Bell has been on lately. He joined Walter Payton this week as the only player in NFL History to have at least 200 yards from scrimmage in three straight games as he torched the Bengals for 185 rushing yards, 50 receiving yards and three touchdowns.  Bell has been consistently fantastic all season and has moved from a player you’d love to have to perhaps THE player you’d love to have as we get to the stretch run and beyond in dynasty leagues.

Week Fourteen Fantasy LVP

Really, Peyton Manning?  Really? This is the first (and likely the last) time Manning has ever been listed as even a candidate to be the LVP of any give week. Bronco fans love how he played within himself and leaned on his running game, but having his streak of games with a touchdown snapped (a streak he started way back in 2010) when dynasty owners were counting on him in the playoffs (or to get into the playoffs) was simply brutal. In the end, his 173 passing yards and two interceptions equated to his worst game in years.

Lineup Fun

The unbeatable lineup of the week…

QB Cam Newton CAR = 226 passing yards, 83 rushing yards, four touchdowns
RB Le’Veon Bell PIT = 185 rushing yards, six catches, 50 receiving yards, three total touchdowns
RB DeMarco Murray DAL = 179 rushing yards, nine catches, 49 receiving yards, one touchdown
RB Joique Bell DET = 83 rushing yards, five catches, 50 receiving yards, one touchdown
WR AJ Green CIN = 11 catches, 224 receiving yards, one touchdown
WR TY Hilton IND = Ten catches, 150 receiving yards, two touchdowns
WR Julio Jones ATL = 11 catches, 259 receiving yards, one touchdown
TE Martellus Bennett CHI = 12 catches, 84 receiving yards, one touchdown

The dominant underdog lineup of the week…

QB Derek Carr OAK  = 254 passing yards, three touchdowns
RB Andre Williams NYG =
131 rushing yards, three catches, 16 receiving yards, one touchdown
RB Jonathan Stewart CAR = 155 rushing yards, one touchdown
RB Marcel Reece OAK =
Two rushing yards, seven catches, 64 receiving yards, one touchdown
WR Percy Harvin NYJ =
Three rushing yards, six catches, 124 receiving yards, one touchdown (and one injury, of course)
WR Jarius Wright MIN =
23 rushing yards, four catches, 123 receiving yards, one touchdown
WR Cole Beasley DAL =
Three catches, 42 receiving yards, two touchdowns
TE Scott Chandler BUF =
Eight catches, 81 receiving yards

The unexpectedly horrible lineup of the week…

QB Peyton Manning DEN  = 173 passing yards, two interceptions
RB Darren Sproles PHI = No yards
RB LeSean McCoy PHI = 50 rushing yards, no catches, one lost fumble
RB Alfred Morris WAS = Six rushing yards, one catch, 11 receiving yards
WR John Brown ARI = No catches
WR Reggie Wayne IND = One catch, five receiving yards
WR Rueben Randle NYG = One catch, nine receiving yards
TE Dwayne Allen IND = One catch, five receiving yards

Gut Checks

I’d be worried if I had DeMarco Murray beyond this season. Those touches are really piling up.

I’d be worried if I hand’t picked up Marquess Wilson.

I’d be worried if I owned Jason Witten. He’s being asked to block, but also showing his age.

I’d be worried if I was starting Johnny Manziel this week.

I’d be worried if I wasn’t hoping Jordan Cameron would make it through the season, just so I could sell him.

I’d be worried if I was thinking Robert Griffin III was going to turn it around this year.

I’d be worried if I was giving up on any of the rookie tight ends.

I’d be worried if I wasn’t already salivating over Melvin Gordon and Amari Cooper.

I’d be worried if I owned Reggie Bush. He’s all of a sudden looking like New Orleans Reggie again.

I’d be worried if I was counting on any player from Tampa Bay, outside of Mike Evans.

I’d be worried if I was still holding out hope for Toby Gerhart.

I’d be worried if I didn’t think DeAndre Hopkins is the best receiver in Houston.

I’d be worried if I’m playing against Odell Beckham, Jr. If he’s this good as a rookie, where will he be in a couple years?

I’d be worried if I owned Mike Wallace. This offense in Miami just doesn’t work for him.

I’d be worried if I suddenly thought Steve Smith was back….again,

I’d be worried if I thought this Charles Johnson fella is a fluke.

I’d be worried if I thought Jonathan Stewart suddenly had rising dynasty value.

I’d be worried if I had anyone on the Titans. This is a mess.

I’d be worried if I was having my players going against the Rams.  Suddenly, this isn’t a mess.

I’d be worried if I owned Andre Ellington. This was not what we had hoped for this season.

I’d be worried if I’m not noticing the “other” J. Brown for the Cardinals.

I’d be worried if I’m suddenly worried about Peyton Manning, Demaryius Thomas or anyone on Denver.

I’d be worried if I didn’t think CJ Anderson could take me to the championship.

I’d be worried if I’m counting on Jimmy Graham at the moment. He’s just not right.

I’d be worried if I have any running back from the Bills. Who knows what this is going to look like next season.

I’d be worried if I owned Colin Kaepernick.  Just like that, Superman looks like Clark Kent.

A Look Ahead to Hot Names on the Week Fifteen Waiver Wire
Remember, we focus on the lesser names here who we haven’t mentioned much this season.

1. Kerwynn Williams, RB ARI

I suggest Michael Bush last week, but he was subsequently cut late last week and replaced with Williams on the active roster. Williams inexplicably led the Cardinals with 100 rushing yards this week. Now, don’t get too excited. Even if Williams has, indeed, earned the lion’s share of work on the Arizona committee, they face the Rams and Seahawks in the next two weeks and that’s enough to make ANY running back look pedestrian.  Regardless, he’s worth a look.

Previous suggestions: Justin Forsett, Lorenzo Taliaferro, Bobby Rainey, Anthony Dixon, Case Keenum, Alfred Blue, Knile Davis, Donald Brown, Khiry Robinson, Kirk Cousins, Jarvis Landry, Aaron Dobson, Niles Paul, Damien Williams, Austin Davis, Zach Mettenberger, Joe Banyard, Silas Redd, DeAndre Levy, Mike Glennon, Joe McKnight, Philly Brown, Rhett Ellison, Jerick McKinnon, Darrin Reaves, Branden Oliver, Jarius Wright, Louis Murphy, Kyle Orton, Juwan Thompson, Tim Wright, George Winn, Robert Herron, Adam Thielen, James White, Chris Hogan, Preston Parker, Jonas Gray, Colt McCoy, Bryce Brown, Marion Grice, Ryan Mallett, Charles Sims, Brandon Weeden, Kamar Aiken, Michael Vick, Dan “Boom” Herron, Mark Sanchez, Chase Ford, Matt Simms, Ryan Williams, Logan Thomas, Drew Stanton, Josh McCown, Kapri Bibbs, Marcedes Lewis, Antonio Andrews, Duron Carter, Charles Johnson, Glenn Winston, Tom Savage, Zurlon Tipton, Jeremy Stewart, Michael Bush.
