Each edition of this series will highlight a different daily fantasy football site. Towards the end of the season, we will do more of a comparative analysis between the sites, giving a comprehensive overview of the daily fantasy football landscape.   For starters, though, we will focus on each highlighted site individually and give general impressions in order to give the reader an idea of exactly what the site has to offer.

First Impressions: Beautiful, clean site with a stunning user interface. Whomever is responsible for developing Victiv did a fantastic job of creating a site which gives a professional and visually appealing experience.

Mobile Options: The mobile site was equally as stunning and functional as the desktop site. There were no applications to be found in either the Android or iOS app stores.

Types of Contests

  • Standard – Contests ranging in size from six to 20 entrants and with buy-ins from $2 to $200. Winners are based on a scale where the top finisher wins most and payouts go to the top 25% of finishers.
  • Double-Up – Contests ranging in size from six to 20 entrants and with buy-ins from $2 to $200. Finishers in the top half of each contest double their money.
  • Head-to-Head – Standard mano-a-mano contest where you submit your best lineup, somebody else challenges you with their best, and the best one wins. Buy-ins range from $2 to $200.
  • Satellite – Qualifier contests for automatic entries into large payout contests later in the year. There don’t seem to be any satellite contests available yet, however.

[inlinead]These are all standard daily fantasy football contest formats. The nice thing about Victiv, as opposed to some of the large daily sites, is that the contests are much smaller (for now, at least) and that can give users a better experience simply due to the fact that they are more likely to win.

Lineup Format: QB-RB-RB-WR-WR-TE-FLEX-FLEX-DEF

The double flex lineup gives a lot of variability in contest outcomes due to the additional roster variations. Functionally, this is arguably the ideal format for a daily fantasy football site. Kudos to Victiv for their progressive anti-kicker stance as well.

Scoring Format: 0.5 PPR, passing touchdowns = four points, all other touchdowns = six points, one point per 10 yards rushing/receiving and per 25 yards passing.

The half-point per reception is a bit unusual for daily fantasy football, which is almost entirely made up of standard PPR formats. This is a unique characteristic of Victiv which offers an advantage to users who are more familiar with the 0.5 PPR as well as a comfortable stepping stone for those who are used to the old-school non-PPR settings.

The defensive scoring settings (-0.5 per point allowed, +12 for shutout) are geared towards a final score-centric. I prefer the big play tilted scoring for defenses because it gives more flexibility when choosing a team defense for your lineup. In this format, it is crucial to choose a team playing a poor offense and that can lead to low variability and thus restrictive offensive decisions.

Creating Lineups: Creating lineups is a lot of fun on Victiv, partially because of the double-flex roster format and also because there are a lot of hidden gems as far as player values are concerned. For example, there are a lot of high ceiling players available at bargain bin prices so instead of creating a lineup with third and fourth string guys at flex, you’re able to choose an explosive rookie or an injury-replacement first-time starter. If you’re adept at picking up waiver wire players as injury or bye-week replacements in regular fantasy football, you’ll love the options on Victiv.

Overall, Victiv is a fantastic site and I would highly recommend giving it a shot.
