Developing Assets: Week Thirteen

After receiving some very positive feedback on the inclusion of a deeper set of devy rankings a few weeks ago, I wanted to share an updated version. This time, I’ve also included some brief commentary about players moving up or down each list.

Before we get to the rankings, here are some games dynasty and devy owners should be watching this weekend.

  • Oregon at Arizona (ESPN2, 3:30)
  • Texas A&M at LSU (CBS, 3:30)
  • California at Stanford (FOX SPORTS1, 4:00)
  • Arizona State at UCLA (FOX, 7:00)
  • Missouri at Mississippi (ESPN, 7:45)
  • Baylor at Oklahoma State (ABC, 8:00)

Quarterback:

  1. Teddy Bridgewater, UL (2014)
  2. Marcus Mariota, OREG (2014)
  3. Jameis Winston, FSU (2015)
  4. Brett Hundley, UCLA (2014)
  5. Christian Hackenberg, PSU (2016)

The only change here from the previous set of rankings was the flip-flop of Mariota and Winston. Mariota being available a year earlier for dynasty owners and the recent potential legal trouble surrounding Winston led to this change. I still see Winston as an elite talent, but with the severity of the accusations, there has to be an effect on his value. The good news is we will most likely have some sort of resolution of the situation by the time the next set of devy drafts take place.

Running Back:

  1. Todd Gurley, UGA (2015)
  2. Melvin Gordon, WISC (2014)
  3. TJ Yeldon, ALA (2015)
  4. Alex Collins, ARK (2016)
  5. Thomas Tyner, OREG (2016)
  6. Mike Davis, S CAR (2015)
  7. Lache Seastrunk, BAY (2014)
  8. Kenyan Drake, ALA (2015)
  9. Jeremy Hill, LSU (2014)
  10. Ka’Deem Carey, ARZ (2014)
  11. Jonathan Gray, TEX (2015)
  12. Matt Jones, FLA (2015)
  13. Keith Marshall, UGA (2015)
  14. Bishop Sankey, WAS (2014)
  15. DeAnthony Thomas, OREG (2014)
  16. Duke Johnson, MIA (2015)
  17. Devonta Freeman, FSU (2014)
  18. Jay Ajayi, BOI (2014)
  19. Barry Sanders, Jr., STAN (2015)
  20. Carlos Hyde, OSU (2014)
  21. James Wilder, Jr., FSU (2014)
  22. Antonio Andrews, WKU (2014)
  23. Tre Mason, AUB (2014)
  24. Charles Sims, WVU (2014)
  25. Marion Grice, ASU (2014)

In addition to expanding the running back list by ten players, many of the top true sophomores moved down the list due to injury. Jones, Gray, Marshall and Johnson are all out for the remainder of the season with serious leg injuries. True freshmen Collins and Tyner continue to impress.

Wide Receiver:

  1. Sammy Watkins, CLEM (2014)
  2. Laquan Treadwell, MISS (2016)
  3. Amari Cooper, ALA (2015)
  4. Mike Evans, TXAM (2014)
  5. Marqise Lee, USC (2014)
  6. Stefon Diggs, MARY (2015)
  7. Jordan Matthews, VAN (2014)
  8. Dorial Green-Beckham, MIZZ (2015)
  9. Allen Robinson, PSU (2014)
  10. Devante Adams, FRES (2014)
  11. Nelson Algohor, USC (2015)
  12. Brandon Coleman, RUT (2014)
  13. Brandin Cooks, OREG ST (2014)
  14. Devante Parker, UL (2014)
  15. Odell Beckham, LSU (2014)
  16. Kenny Lawler, CAL (2015)
  17. Stacy Coley, MIA (2016)
  18. Ricky Seals-Jones, TXAM (2016)
  19. Donte Moncrief, MISS (2014)
  20. Quinshad Davis, UNC (2015)
  21. Jarvis Landry, LSU (2014)
  22. Rashad Greene, FSU (2014)
  23. Shaq Roland, S CAR (2015)
  24. Kelvin Benjamin, FSU (2014)
  25. Leonte Carroo, RUT (2015)

Another position where I’ve gone deeper with expanded rankings is wide receiver. The moves here are mostly small ones, but the big mover is Vanderbilt’s Matthews, who continues to look great against SEC competition.

Tight End:

  1. Jace Amaro, TXTECH (2014)
  2. Eric Ebron, UNC (2014)
  3. Austin Seferian-Jenkins, WAS (2014)
  4. Devin Funchess, MICH (2015)
  5. OJ Howard, ALA (2016)

Just a reminder that I’ve included players in the class they are first eligible for, meaning some players may opt to stay in school and not declare themselves eligible in the year I have them listed.

Class of 2014:

  1. Sammy Watkins, WR CLEM
  2. Melvin Gordon, RB WISC
  3. Mike Evans, WR TXAM
  4. Lache Seastrunk, RB BAY
  5. Marqise Lee, WR USC
  6. Teddy Bridgewater, QB UL
  7. Jeremy Hill, RB LSU
  8. Jordan Matthews, WR VAN
  9. Jace Amaro, TE TXTECH
  10. Allen Robinson, WR PSU
  11. Devante Adams, WR FRES
  12. Eric Ebron, TE UNC
  13. Ka’Deem Carey, RB ARZ
  14. Marcus Mariota, QB OREG
  15. Bishop Sankey, RB WAS
  16. Odell Beckham, WR LSU
  17. Brandin Cooks, WR OREG ST
  18. Austin Seferian-Jenkins, TE WAS
  19. Devante Parker, WR UL
  20. Donte Moncrief, WR MISS

Lots of movement in the upcoming class, with Matthews again moving up, Lee moving down and the top two tight ends rising quickly.

Class of 2015:

  1. Todd Gurley, RB UGA
  2. Amari Cooper, WR ALA
  3. TJ Yeldon, RB ALA
  4. Jameis Winston, QB FSU
  5. Stefon Diggs, WR MARY
  6. Mike Davis, RB S CAR
  7.  Devin Funchess, TE MICH
  8. Kenyan Drake, RB ALA
  9. Nelson Algohor, WR USC
  10.  Jonathan Gray, RB TEX

It feels like it’s been years that dynasty owners have been clamoring to acquire picks in the 2014 draft thanks to the expected flood of talent that will be entering the league. As we become more and more familiar with the 2015 class though, it is very possible that we see an even better class of incoming rookies. Acquire those 2015 rookie picks while you can!

Class of 2016:

  1. Laquan Treadwell, WR MISS
  2. Alex Collins, RB ARK
  3. Thomas Tyner, RB OREG
  4. Ricky Seals-Jones, WR TXAM
  5. OJ Howard, TE ALA
  6. Stacy Coley, WR MIA
  7. Christian Hackenberg, QB PSU
  8. Marquez North, WR TEN
  9. Tyler Boyd, WR PITT
  10. Dontre Wilson, RB OSU

We are just getting to know most of these players and many of them are not even starting for their own team yet, but they are showing flashes of talent and that is sometimes all it takes to quickly gain value in a devy league.
