The Dynasty Aftermath: Week Nine

Welcome to DLF’s Dynasty Aftermath. This Tuesday staple is our longest running signature piece as we have a little fun after a tough week at the Dynasty League Football office. You’ll find this article will review the week’s happenings in a variety of ways and help set you up for the coming weeks as we spin around the league in the way we know best.

Let’s take a look back at the week that was!

Week Nine Fantasy MVP

You can look through the history of the NFL and I’d bet you pretty much anything I own you couldn’t find two back-to-back fantasy quarterback performances as different as those from Nick Foles over the past two games. After going an atrocious 11-for-29 for just 80 passing yards against the Cowboys two weeks ago, Foles exploded against the Raiders on Sunday, throwing for 406 yards and an NFL record tying seven touchdowns. Yes, seven touchdowns. Foles now has 13 touchdowns and no interceptions on the year and it’s tough to see Michael Vick starting again for the Eagles barring an injury or another epic face plant from Foles. Unfortunately, it would have taken an incredible amount of guts, foresight or a horrible bye week for most owners to start him, so those points were unfortunately most likely on the bench – that would have to be a record for most points from a bench player in fantasy history.

The only question now is (sorry), “Is this just Foles gold?”

Week Nine Fantasy LVP

Jordan Cameron has been one of fantasy football’s best up and coming new stars, but Sunday was a disaster for him as he had just one catch for four yards on Sunday, even with the Browns posting a victory against the Ravens. There will be brighter days ahead for the young tight end, but owners who were relying in him during a heavy bye week had to be disappointed.

Lineup Fun

The unbeatable lineup of the week…

QB Nick Foles PHI = 406 passing yards, seven total touchdowns
RB Zac Stacy STL = 127 rushing yards, six catches, 51 receiving yards, two touchdowns
RB Chris Johnson TEN = 150 rushing yards, three catches, 20 receiving yards, two touchdowns
RB Rashad Jennings OAK = 102 rushing yards, seven catches, 74 receiving yards, one touchdown
WR Andre Johnson HOU = Nine catches, 229 receiving yards, three touchdowns
WR Riley Cooper PHI = Five catches, 139 receiving yards, three touchdowns
WR Jerricho Cotchery PIT = Seven catches, 96 receiving yards, three touchdowns
TE Jimmy Graham NO = Nine catches, 116 receiving yards, two touchdowns

The dominant underdog lineup of the week…

Take out Jimmy Graham, replace him with Zach Ertz (5/42/1) and see above.  I don’t want this to seem like a cop out, but look at those leaders for the week  – that’s an amazing group of performances from many players not even in most lineups this week. It’s weeks like this where you learn to love or hate fantasy football – it all depends on if those players were on your roster or somehow playing against you.

The unexpectedly horrible lineup of the week…

QB Aaron Rodgers GB = 27 passing yards, one injury
RB Arian Foster HOU = No yards on one target, one back injury after one series
RB Darren Sproles NO = One catch, two yards, one head injury
RB Darren McFadden OAK = 12 rushing yards, one catch, three receiving yards, one hamstring injury
WR Vincent Jackson TB = Two catches, 11 receiving yards
WR Justin Hunter TEN = Two catches, 13 receiving yards
WR Julian Edelman NE =  One catches, 11 receiving yards
TE Jordan Cameron CLE  = One catch, four receiving yards

Gut Checks

I’d be worried if I owned Trent Richardson. Is this getting old yet?

I’d be worried if I didn’t think Aaron Dobson was in position for a nice stretch run.

I’d be worried if I owned Kenbrell Thompkins. See Dobson, Aaron.

I’d be worried if I owned Michael Vick. Sorry Mike, but the circus left without you.

I’d be worried if I expected another performance like that from many of the players listed on the lineup fun leaderboard this week.

I’d be worried if I didn’t think TY Hilton was one of the most underrated players in fantasy football.

I’d be worried if I owned Ray Rice. The Ravens can’t block anybody and Rice just doesn’t look the same. All the hope after the bye week evaporated in one half.

I’d be worried if I’ve given up on Tom Brady. I was personally pretty close, but he looked so much better this week.

I’d be worried if I’m playing against Zac Stacy. Jeff Fisher will ride a back into the ground and Stacy is going to be the focal point of the offense.

I’d be worried if I didn’t think Case Keenum had at least a puncher’s chance to win the Texans job long-term.

Ditto on Mike Glennon in Tampa.

I’d be worried if I just assumed Chris Johnson was back. I’m not whining, but that’s just one week.

I’d be worried if I didn’t think Keenan Allen was a steal in rookie drafts this year.

I’d be worried if I thought Darrel Young was ever going to do that again.

I’d be worried if I owned Matt Ryan. It’s hard to blame him, but he’s forcing things way too much.

I’d be worried if I was ignoring what Lamar Miller is finally doing in Miami.

I’d be worried if I didn’t buy low on Stevan Ridley when I could have.

I’d be worried if I didn’t covet Pierre Garcon. I was wrong about him, that’s for sure.

I’d be worried if I wasn’t at least monitoring the play of Chris Ivory.

I’d be worried if I owned Darren McFadden. It’s just brutal.

I’d be worried if I owned Aaron Rodgers. Keep your fingers crossed.

I’d be worried if I expected Cordarelle Patterson to emerge this year. There’s just too much working against him right now.

I’d be worried if I still had Willis McGahee on my roster. It’s a sad ending to what should have been an elite career in the NFL. McGahee was never quite the same after his gruesome knee injury in the National Title game years ago, but he still carved himself out a nice run in the NFL. We can always wonder what could have been, but there’s no more “what should be” because he’s just looking washed up.

I’d be worried if I didn’t have a solid assessment of my dynasty team’s chances after this week. You’re either a contender or a pretender at this point and you need to decide which is which so you make the moves necessary at the trading deadline.
