Sunday Morning Huddle: Week Seven

Ken Kelly

riceLet’s face it, there’s an enormous amount of information out there this morning. We’re not going to waste your time by repeating the news and notes about who’s in or out this week, since that’s really not what you visit us for. We’re also not going to do another article on starts or sits this week – we already have the personalized lineup advice for you on the premium content. Again, there are 100 places you can go for that, so we do something different on Sundays for our Premium Content subscribers every year.

The Sunday Morning Huddle goes through each game and states what we’re looking to see from a dynasty perspective. We’ll pick one player from each team who we have our eye on and describe why their weekend performance is a key one for them in relation to their dynasty value.

Early Games

Tampa Bay at Atlanta

This is all about Matt Ryan for the Falcons. He’s had a great start to the season, but will now be without Steven Jackson, Roddy White AND Julio Jones. This week is going to be a big indicator to show us what we could really expect moving forward.

For the Bucs, let’s focus on Doug Martin. Lost in the disappointment in Trent Richardson’s start is the equally frustrating beginning for Martin. With a new quarterback and a soft defense, this should be a day for Martin to really post some good numbers.

Chicago at Washington

What’s gotten into Jay Cutler? He’s on pace for a career-best fantasy season and seems to be rejuvenated under new Head Coach Marc Trestman. With Alshon Jeffery and Brandon Marshall combining to form quite the dynamic duo, let’s see what Cutler has in store today.

For the Redskins, lost in the midst of a brutal start has been the solid play of tight end Jordan Reed. He’s already evolving into a great weapon for the Redskins. Another good game would really put him on the map, so pick him up now if he’s somehow still available in your league.

Dallas at Philadelphia

With DeMarco Murray out for the game, it’s time for dynasty league owners to take a good look at Joseph Randle. He’s raw and still a project, but Murray simply can’t stay healthy and a spark from Randle would be great to see for dynasty league owners who have him.

For the Eagles, Nick Foles could just make Michael Vick an afterthought with another solid performance. Though not nearly as athletic, Foles gets the ball out quickly and has made soild decisions thus far. This is a big day for Foles and Vick.

New England at New York Jets

Will we or won’t we see Rob Gronkowski. Either way, it’s easily the biggest story for New England today. Sorry Stevan Ridley!

The Jets haven’t had too many bright spots, but let’s keep an eye on Jeff Cumberland today. He’s really coming on and with Kellen Winslow out, he has an opportunity to really do some damage.

Buffalo at Miami

A funny thing happened on the way to Thad Lewis faceplanting last week…it didn’t happen. While there’s no doubt this is EJ Manuel’s team, dynasty league owners should consider this an extended audition for Lewis to prove he should be in the league. So far, so good.

For the Dolphins, Mike Wallace has been a mess, but he had a massive 16 targets last week? Was that a fluke or are they really trying hard to integrate him into the offense. We’ll know for sure oday.

San Diego at Jacksonville

There’s no doubt who has our attention from the Chargers – it’s none other than Keenan Allen, who has been a top option in fantasy leagues over the past two weeks. If Allen keeps up his current pace, he may just end up being the biggest steal in rookie drafts this year.

MJD owners need a proof of life.  A touchdown? A 100-yard game? A picture of him with a newspaper from the current day?  Anything will help to instill some confidence in his ability to bounce back.

St. Louis at Carolina

Don’t look now, but Sam Bradford is looking like a low-end QB1 for the first time in his career after throwing for six touchdowns and no interceptions over the past two weeks. With a game at Carolina this week and a Monday Night Football showdown on the horizon, we’re going to finally see just how far he’s come starting today.

For the Panthers, Cam Newton finally had a solid game last week. Can he repeat? It may seem like no big deal, but Newton has yet to show consistency this season.

Cincinnati at Detroit

Let’s put Jermaine Gresham in the crosshairs. With Tyler Eifert waiting in the wings, we just have to see more from Gresham or he’s going to end up being waiver wire material.

For the Lions, let’s see if Kris Durham can continue to evolve into a decent weapon. As a bonus, dynasty league owners will really be curious to see the encore from Joseph Fauria, after he scored three touchdowns last week.

Late Games

San Francisco at Tennessee

This game (and every one in the near future) is all about Colin Kaepernick. We really need to see another dominant performance from Kaep here soon in order to justify considering him as a QB1. Right now, it’s just not happening.

For the Titans, it looks like Jake Locker will be back. If that’s the case, there may be no other player with more interest in dynasty leagues. Locker looked like he was turning the corner before being injured and it’s going to be interesting to see what he can do coming back.

Houston at Kansas City

It’s Case Keenum time!  That may be good or bad, but we’ll know soon enough.

For the Chiefs, it’s time to seriously start worrying about Dwayne Bowe’s future. The Chiefs have no sense of urgency to include him more in the passing game because they’re winning and Bowe is becoming a total afterthought. Can Alex Smith start to find his receivers?

Baltimore at Pittsburgh

For the Ravens, Ray Rice has to show up here soon. He’s getting a good volume of work, but his yards per carry average is second worst in the league at the moment. Sure, the Ravens aren’t blocking well, but Rice just hasn’t looked like himself. Another clunker here would be a red flag.

The Steelers finally got a win last week and really need Le’Veon Bell to produce. Let’s see what he can do against the Ravens today. He hasn’t looked dynamic yet, but perhaps he was still getting his legs under him.

Cleveland at Green Bay

We’re not sure if Josh Gordon will be dealt here this season, but he’s playing like a total stud at the moment. With 11 catches and 212 yards over his past two games, Gordon is showing he’s legit.

Much like Matt Ryan, Aaron Rodgers is going to be without most of his weapons on Sunday. Rodgers has looked very mortal this year and it may not be getting any better here soon. Will we see another vintage A-Rod performance?

Sunday Night Football

Denver at Indianapolis

How about Knowshon Moreno?  Really, how about him?

For the Colts, we’re just going to continue to harp on Trent Richardson until he shows he can be more than just a volume runner. Yes, we’re beating a dead horse, but this was a player who many took first overall in dynasty leagues this year, so it’s a dead horse that needs to be beaten.

Monday Night Football

Minnesota at New York Giants

It’s Josh Freeman time in Minnesota. We have our doubts about how effective he can be, but the secondary of the Giants should be a good way to build some confidence.

For the Giants, Hakeem Nicks may be on an audition for other teams at this point. With whispers about him not being as explosive as he once was, let’s watch closely to see just how well he does with or without the ball.

Enjoy the games!
