The Dynasty Aftermath: Week Six

Welcome to DLF’s Dynasty Aftermath. This Tuesday staple is our longest running signature piece as we have a little fun after a tough week at the Dynasty League Football office. You’ll find this article will review the week’s happenings in a variety of ways and help set you up for the coming weeks as we spin around the league in the way we know best.

Let’s take a look back at the week that was!

Week Six Fantasy MVP

This may end up being the year of the tight end in fantasy football and Vernon Davis reminded us this week that he’s still one of the best in reality or fantasy. Davis carved up the Cardinals for eight catches, 180 yards and two touchdowns as San Francisco beat Arizona by a score of 32-20. Davis got open at will and did most of his damage in the first half. He now has at least one touchdown in three straight games and will look to keep it going at Tennessee and at Jacksonville before San Francisco has their bye week. those who bought Davis on the cheap this off-season are reaping the rewards.

Week Six Fantasy LVP

Many dynasty league owners took Tavon Austin first overall in rookie drafts this year and his slow start continued this week as he caught just one pass for three yards. Even worse, he played on just four snaps in the St. Louis blowout win against the Texans. The Rams don’t look like they know how to use him and it’s a concern he hasn’t found a niche in the offense yet. The Rams didn’t miss him as they scored 38 points this week, which makes it obvious there really isn’t a sense of urgency to get him on the field. Dynasty league owners need to exhibit tremendous patience here, but it’s looking like it’s going to take him a while to develop.

Lineup Fun

The unbeatable lineup of the week…

QB Cam Newton CAR = 242 passing yards, 30 rushing yards, four total touchdowns
RB Knowshon Moreno DEN = 42 rushing yards, seven catches, 62 receiving yards, three touchdowns
RB Marshawn Lynch SEA = 77 rushing yards, four catches, 78 receiving yards, two touchdowns
RB Jamaal Charles KC = 78 rushing yards, five catches, 50 receiving yards, two touchdowns
WR Justin Blackmon JAX = 14 catches, 190 receiving yards, twenty targets (!)
WR Vincent Jackson TB = Nine catches, 114 receiving yards, two touchdowns
WR Brandon Marshall CHI = Nine catches, 87 receiving yards, two touchdowns
TE Vernon Davis SF = Eight catches, 180 receiving yards, two touchdowns

The dominant underdog lineup of the week…

QB Nick Foles PHI = 296 passing yards, four total touchdowns
RB Brandon Jacobs NYG = 106 rushing yards, two touchdowns
RB Stevan Ridley NE = 96 rushing yards, two touchdowns
RB Chris Ogbonnaya CLE = 24 rushing yards, seven catches, 61 receiving yards, one touchdown
WR Riley Cooper PHI = Four catches, 120 receiving yards, one touchdown
WR Keenan Allen SD = Nine catches, 107 receiving yards, one touchdown
WR Brandon LaFell CAR = Four catches, 107 receiving yards, one touchdown
TE Joseph Fauria DET = Three catches, 34 receiving yards, three touchdowns

The unexpectedly horrible lineup of the week…

QB Andrew Luck IND = 202 passing yards, 19 rushing yards, one INT, no touchdowns
RB Ray Rice BAL = 34 rushing yards, three catches, 15 receiving yards
RB CJ Spiller BUF = 55 rushing yards, two catches, 11 receiving yards
RB Trent Richardson IND = 40 rushing yards, one catch, 13 receiving yards
WR James Jones GB = One catch, ten yards, one injury
WR Tavon Austin STL = One catch, three receiving yards
WR Marques Colston NO = One catch, 11 receiving yards
TE Greg Olsen CAR = Two catches, 19 receiving yards

Gut Checks

I’d be worried if I owned Trent Richardson. I’m going to keep him at the top of this list each and every week until he looks like something more than a volume runner. He’s become a staple each week.

I’d be worried if I didn’t sell high on Eddie Royal. Hello, Keenan Allen.

I’d be worried if I own Marques Colston. He has a grand total of one touchdown on the season so far and has put out two major clunkers going into the bye week for the Saints.

I’d be worried if I’m Philip Rivers. He has his seventh child due any day – that’s more children than games the Chargers have blown in the last two years. Sorry, San Diego.

I’d be worried if I’m relying on Eli Manning as anything other than a bye week player. Nine touchdowns and 15 interceptions in six games isn’t getting it done.

I’d be worried if I expect Brandon Jacobs to do that again.

I’d be worried if I still think Aaron Rodgers is giving me a huge competitive advantage. He’s great, but injuries are piling up.

I’d be worried if I didn’t think the Patriots would at least kick the tires on some receivers via trade or free agency – these young guys just aren’t getting it done, despite the game winning catch this week.

I’d be worried if I thought Johnathan Franklin was going to challenge Eddie Lacy for carries any time soon.

I’d be worried if I own Ray Rice.  This just isn’t going as planned. He’s averaging 2.8 yards per carry this season, which is the worst in the league amongst running backs with at least 60 carries and his longest run of the year has been good for just 14 yards.

I’d be worried if I’m rostering two kickers through the bye weeks. Let one go!

I’d be worried if I don’t have Kiko Alonso in my IDP leagues.

I’d be worried if I own Ryan Broyles. He’s presumably healthy, but a huge afterthought at the moment.

I’d be worried if I’m ignoring the fact Denarius Moore is re-emerging as a solid option.

I’d be worried if I’m not thinking DeSean Jackson is actually now matchup proof.

I’d be worried if I own Michael Vick and don’t have Nick Foles.

I’d be worried if I still thought CJ Spiller would dominate fantasy football this year. This is just amazing.

I’d be worried if I’m relying on Chris Johnson any week from this point forward.

I’d be worried if I’m relying on a trade for Hakeem Nicks’ value to skyrocket.

I’d be worried if I thought Stevan Ridley has now made a huge breakthrough.

I’d be worried if I didn’t make a play for Justin Blackmon when his value was in the tank a few weeks ago.

I’d be worried if I’m playing Peyton Manning this week. The Broncos are coming off a sub-par performance and Peyton is going back home to Indy – I’ll set the over/under at 78 touchdown passes this week.
