The Dynasty Aftermath: Week Three

Welcome to DLF’s Dynasty Aftermath. This Tuesday staple is our longest running signature piece as we have a little fun after a tough week at the Dynasty League Football office. You’ll find this article will review the week’s happenings in a variety of ways and help set you up for the coming weeks as we spin around the league in the way we know best.

Let’s take a look back at the week that was!

Week Three Fantasy MVP

Jimmy Graham is truly amazing and he proved to be in a class of his own at the tight end position again with nine catches for 134 yards and two scores in the undefeated Saints victory against Arizona on Sunday. Graham sits next to possibly only Calvin Johnson as players who are simply impossible to cover. Owners who have Graham will again have a statistical advantage each and every week they play.

Week Two Fantasy LVP

There were off-season concerns about how Alex Smith and his check down ways would deflate the value of talented receiver Dwayne Bowe – those are being justified now.  Bowe was mostly invisible in the Thursday night opener for the week against the Philadelphia Eagles as he was only able to post one catch for four yards. On the season, Bowe now has only nine catches and is on pace to post 48 catches for 480 yards and a little over five touchdowns. The bigger problem here is the Chiefs are winning, so there’s no reason for them to tinker with their offense in an effort to get him more involved. It’s very early in the season and the Chiefs are bound to be down in some games and be forced to make Alex Smith become more aggressive, but it’s been a really disappointing beginning to a season many hoped would become Bowe’s best yet.

Lineup Fun

The unbeatable lineup of the week…

QB Drew Brees NO = 342 passing yards, 21 rushing yards, 4 TDs, 1 INT
RB Jamaal Charles KC = 172 total yards, seven catches, 1 TD
RB DeMarco Murray DAL = 203 total yards, three catches 1 TD
RB Joique Bell DET = 132 total yards, four catches, 1 TD
WR Josh Gordon CLE = 168 total yards, ten catches, 1 TD, 19 targets (!)
WR Santonio Holmes NYJ = 154 receiving yards, five catches, 1 TD
WR Sidney Rice SEA = 79 receiving yards, five catches, 2 TDs
TE Jimmy Graham NO = 134 receiving yards, nine catches, 2 TDs

The dominant underdog lineup of the week (amazingly, you could use many names from above as well)…

QB Brian Hoyer CLE = 321 passing yards, 3 TDs, 3 INTS
RB Johnathan Franklin GB = 126 total yards, three catches, 1 TD (and one really bad fumble)
RB Jason Snelling ATL = 101 total yards, four catches, 1 TD
RB Ahmad Bradshaw IND = 111 total yards, three catches, 1 TD
WR Cecil Shorts JAX = Eight catches, 143 receiving yards
WR Donnie Avery KC = Seven catches, 141 receiving yards
WR Jason Avant PHI = Five catches, 87 receiving yards, 1 TD
TE Zach Miller SEA = Two catches, 5 receiving yards, 2 TDs

The unexpectedly horrible lineup of the week…

QB Colin Kaepernick SF = 150 passing yards, 20 rushing yards, 0 TDs, 1 INT
RB CJ Spiller BUF = 9 rushing yards, 1 catch, 1 receiving yard
RB David Wilson NYG = 39 rushing yards
RB Rashard Mendenhall ARI = 29 rushing yards, one catch, 12 receiving yards
WR Kenny Stills NO = No catches
WR Kenny Britt TEN = No catches
WR Hakeem Nicks NYG = No catches
TE Jermichael Finley GB = No catches, one concussion

Gut Checks

I’d be worried if I haven’t explored every option to “sell high” on Michael Vick.

I’d be worried if I’m counting on early season production from Dwayne Bowe (see above).

I’d be worried if I’m bailing on Colin Kaepernick after two poor outings.

I’d be worried if I’m counting on any players on the New York Giants. Yuck.

I’d be worried if I think Brian Hoyer will be the future in Cleveland.

I’d be worried if I didn’t buy low on Jordan Cameron.

I’d be worried if I’m counting on any player who plays in Seattle in any given week.

I’d be worried if I thought Ahmad Bradshaw was going to keep getting the Lion’s share of carries in Indy.

I’d be worried if I thought Zach Miller would do that again.

I’d be worried if I’m ignoring how good Ryan Tannehill has looked so far this year.

I’d be worried if I thought I was going to see a resurgence from Robert Meachem.

I’d be worried if I own Stevan Ridley. The Pats look like they’re losing a little faith in him.

I’d be worried if I’ve given up on Jake Locker or Johnathan Franklin.

I’d be worried if I haven’t given up on Josh Freeman.

I’d be worried if owned Kenny Britt. Seriously, what is going on?
