Waiver Wire Advice: Week Four

Ken Kelly

rogersWe’ll be covering some of the hot names on the majority of dynasty league waiver wires each week for our premium content members.  These players will likely be owned in a minority of dynasty leagues. We won’t waste your time with bigger names who are likely owned in your league like Kenbrell Thompkins, or the likely one week wonders like Dallas Clark or Vonta Leach because you guys are just too good for that.  We’re simply going to cover some players who could be targets this week if you have an open roster spot and are willing to throw a dart with the hope of getting lucky.

Mainstream waiver wire articles will be posted all over the Internet this week begging people to pick up obvious players, but our job is to give you information to make informed and educated decisions and stay ahead of the curve, not on it.

Just remember one other very important thing – you’re in a dynasty league, not a re-draft league. Don’t get too enamored by the one hit wonders and drop your young projects in a quest to find lightning in a bottle. Savvy dynasty league owners will tell you the best players on the wire each and every year end up being the ones dropped by impatient owners, not the ones who suddenly break out. We won’t repeat many names here, so check out the list from prior weeks as we move along.

With that being said, here are this week’s picks in order of priority:

1.) Khiry Robinson, RB NO

Robinson made some noise this preseason and looked good again this week in regular season action. With Mark Ingram looking more and more like a bust and Darren Sproles not getting any younger, Robinson is very worthy of a stash in dynasty leagues.

2.) Da’Rick Rogers, WR IND

Rogers’ dynasty value has been on a roller coaster ride ever since he was snubbed in the NFL Draft. He’s finally landed on his feet and has been signed from the Indianapolis practice squad to their active roster. Rogers may not make an impact for a number of weeks (if ever), but a talented receiver on a team with Andrew Luck and Trent Richardson?  Yes, please.

3.) Brandon Bolden, RB NE

It’s apparent the Patriots are unwilling to simply let Stevan Ridley do all the heavy lifting while Shane Vereen is out and Bolden looks like he could at least be a nice short term asset in PPR leagues. He’s showed well before, so this is no real surprise.

4.) Chris Polk, RB PHI

We all saw just how fast things can change when LeSean McCoy went down with an ankle injury on Thursday night. While he seems to be just fine, the thought of McCoy going down immediately made owners check their leagues to see who owned Bryce Brown and Polk.  Brown is likely owned, but Polk may not be. Try to be proactive, just in case.

5.) Brian Hoyer, QB CLE

Hoyer wasn’t awful against the Vikings, despite the three interceptions. He’s not first on the list because it’s quite likely he’s going to lose more weapons if the Browns truly make this a fire sale and because he has virtually no chance of a long-term future there. However, if he shows well, he could be back on the radar for another team next year and even help you out in a pinch this season.

6.) Theo Riddick, RB DET

Look, this is a total dart here, but Riddick is clearly ahead of Mikel Leshoure on the Lions depth chart at this point, Reggie Bush has never been durable and it remains to be seen just how heavy a load Joique Bell could handle long term. Just sayin’.
