Week 15 Lineup Advice – Playoff Madness

Dec. 13, 2011

Rather than bore you with my normal blog style of post for the week, let’s get right to taking your questions about this week’s games.  As always has been the case, our advice is free and for all to see.

Good luck to all of you if you are heading into the playoffs this week.  This is a time not to get too cute with your lineup and play it safe unless you’re up against a powerhouse.  Don’t bench your studs!  And most of all, use YOUR gut as any tie breaker.

One quick note though.  I don’t want to see any “Should I start Gronkowski this week?”  Wow, what a year!

Let’s see those questions.

Big Ben or Jake Locker. And a TE in case Jimmy isn’t a full go – Keller or Gresham. Thanks

I think you’re starting Big Ben over Jake Locker. If Jimmy isnt a full go I’d rather start Gresham againsts Rams Secondary than Keller against Phillies.

I’ll get things started

Cam Newton or Matt Ryan?

Frank Gore or Eric Decker? (Demaryius and Santana both on waivers)

Jimmy Graham or Antonio Gates?

Bengals D/ST or Packers D/ST?

Thanks

This team is going against an undefeated juggernaut team, so I need to go high ceiling over high floor..

Pick one
Matt Ryan Jax
Vick Jets

Pick one:
Maclin Jets
DeMary Patriots
Little @ arizona

Another team, team are evenly matched..

Pick One:

Julio Jax
Tampa Mike Dallas
Antonio brown @ san fran

DLF_Jeff

I’d Start Ryan. With those two, that’s not where your high ceiling will come from. You want points.

DeMary – Yuck, but he’s your best shot this week.

Gotta stick with Brown … he’s been bringing it every week.

WR- Pick 2
Robinson @ TB (allows 18th most to WR)
Bowe vs GB (allows 4th most to WR)
Marshall @ Buf (allows 16th most to WR)

RB-Pick 1
Gore vs Pit (allows 27th most to RB, but hard to bench)
Tate vs Car, I also have Foster if that matters (allows MOST to RB)

I’d go with Foster vs. that terrible CAR “D”.

Finley or Daniels at TE?

Looking for the highest floor from both positions.

Thanks!

I’d start Sproles, he’s more consistent and a big part of that offense.

Finley – Without Jennings there, Finley will get more targets.

Does Talib normally line up against the slot or out-wide? Basically, will he be covering Bryant or Austin?

He’s usually out wide and I’d expect him to up against Bryant most of the time.

For the second, I’d play MWTB. Gore may not even play this week and Stewart is an unknown vs a good HOU “D”. MWTB will at least play every snap.

My RB roster looks like a RED CROSS message. I have Beenie Wells Demarco Murrary Mark Ingram and Kevin Smith. There is next to nothing left on the Wire and the way our league is set up you must have players on your roster by 115am in order to play them on Gamedays So Available on the wire are Keiland Williams Khalil Bell Kendall Hunter Jackie Battle and John Kuhn. If Neither Ingram or Smith is available which of that rag tag bunch has the best chance for me come sunday.

This is a PPR league .75 per reception. with bonus points for milestones 1pt for 100 yrd rushers 150 yard rushers 200 ect… also 1 point for 5 receptions 1 point for 10 receptions 15 ect….

Yours and mine both.

It looks like Smith is going to play this week I’d risk getting him in there. Battle should get more carries this week if you want more safety. I’ll probably be starting Smith in at least one league.

NFL.com, standard scoring league:

1 Rb: Ahmad Bradshaw, Willis McGahee
1 Wr: A.J. Green, Laurent Robinson, Antonio Brown, Stevie Johnson, Brandon Lloyd
1 Te: Brandon Pettigrew, Jermaine Gresham
1 Flex: from players above not already selected

4 total

You could almost flip a coin with Steve Johnson but Green is up against STL and Brown is consistently scoring every week.

I have 5 slots (2-Wr, 2-RB, 1-WR/RB-Flex) Whom do I start from these? M.Lynch,R.Mathews,R.Mendenhall – AJ Green,J.Jones,B.Marshall

Your only choice is between Jones vs. Mendy. Non-PPR, I’d roll with Mendy, even up against that good SFO defense. Otherwise, you’re banking on Julio getting in the end zone and he’s been very streaky.

If you’re gut says Julio though, then roll with it. I’d start Mendy over him in non-PPR though.

not a lineup question…but in your opinion what do you think of TJ Yates’ dynasty potential? any chance if he continues to impress that he could be traded to a QB-needy team this summer?

The kid is looking good, poised and a live arm. I’ve liked what I’ve seen but how long can he keep it going? I don’t think he’ll be starting next year but his dynasty stock is definitely rising. I’d hold onto him like a good wine.

Flip a coin between the two. That said, Stafford is up against a poor OAK “D” and throws to Calvin. Cam always scores well but I’d play it safe and roll with Stafford.

I’d start Grant. Starks looks to be out again and Saine won’t get a ton of touches if he plays.

Hey guys love the site, in a little bind. I am the top seed and have made it to the divisional championship with some injuries. I have been playing without AP for last few weeks but went undefeated. I just lost Jennings and going up against a suddenly hot team

Need some help with lineup: Rodgers, AP, Nicks, Graham, Gronk are all locked in ….

need help from Sjax, Barber,Hardesty,JSTEW,Gerhardt pick 1

and as 2nd WR pick between Julio Jones,or B. Marshall, Torrey Smith choose 1..

I’m in the same boat with AP and am starting him this week.

You have to start SJax over the rest.

Tough WR choice but I’d go with the #1 target and the player that is the most consistent. That’s Marshall. Jones has been wildly inconsistent as has Smith. Either could go big but Marshall has been playing well and is up against a less than stellar Buffalo “D”. Good luck.

Similar curiosity about Dez this week. I’m guessing he’s not going to be quiet 2 weeks in a row.

Should I trade Jamaal Charles away for Dez? Looking for playoff and long term bump for my hurting receiving corps. I could keep either for life. The numbers on RB’s post ACL aren’t great, but he got hurt pretty early in the season, so solid rehab time.

Cody

Could get Julio Jones instead.

DLF_Jeff

I think Charles will be fine over time but if I could get Jones for him, I’d probably do it. Especially if it is going to help you this year. I have Dez a hair lower than Julio and I’m not seeing the dynamic from Dez that I need to see to raise him up.

Make sure your RBs are okay though before trading away charles and this trade is also assuming PPR. If no PPR I wouldn’t trade Charles away without other compensation.

Eric

Bradshaw,Jacobs and Crabtree. I need two and am leaning starting both RBs. It looks like the Giants are starting to get their running game untracked and historically they’ve run well against Washington.

In PPR league, should I start Mendy or JStew?

DLF_Jeff
Reply to  chad

I’d start the back with more guaranteed touches and that’s Mendy. He doesn’t have a good match-up but with PIT’s offense really cranking, he should have a bit less “D” front pressure. If Big Ben doesn’t start though, his prospects drop a bit. I’d still start him though. In CAR, you don’t know week to week who will score.

Dev

I have a ton of WRs to choose from this week and I can’t afford to sit the wrong ones (I sat Julio Jones and Laurent Robinson in favor of VJax and Santana Moss and nearly lost my matchup, managed to squeeze a win 100-97)…there’s a ton of money on the line in my fantasy league so I don’t want that to happen again, so I’ve been asking around for advice for this week…which two do you think should I go with out of:
VJax vs. Ravens
Santana Moss vs. NYG
Julio Jones vs. Jags
Laurent Robinson vs. TB
Denarius Moore vs. Lions
Demaryius Thomas vs. Pats

DLF_Jeff
Reply to  Dev

That’s a tough spot for sure and be sure you follow YOUR gut in the end.

I don’t start VJax. I don’t like him as an every week starter and certainly not vs the Ravens.

You can’t start Thomas or Moore either because they’re too risky, you don’t know what you’ll get week to week. They could do well, but it’s a crap shoot.

It’s down to Jones vs. Robinson vs. Moss. With Austin back in big D, Robinson is a bit of a crap shoot. I’d stick with safer plays:

Moss and Jones.

If Jones scares you a bit, I’d go with Robinson against that bad TB “D”. Here’s how I rank them this week:

Moss
Jones
Robinson
VJax
Thomas
Moore

Vick against Revis and the Jets
Ponder (or Webb) against the Saints or
Locker against the Colts?

DLF_Jeff
Reply to  Nightmarion

If Vick starts, you probably have to roll with him but I really like that Locker match-up if you’re feeling risky this week. This is one of those that you don’t want to lose sleep by starting Locker over Vick and then see Vick do well. Play it safe in all likelihood and start the guy you SHOULD start.

But again, if you’re feeling a risky, I think Locker has a decent game.

ppr need to start 3… j. maclin, L. Robinson, S. Smith(carolina), M. Colson, and A. Boldin. I’m playing against the best team in the league so i wouldn’t mind taking a gamble… this league also has bonuses for 100, 150 and 200 yards

Smith, Colston and Robinson. Boldin could have a good game but I’m giving Robinson the edge due to a poor TB “D”. Hard to say where the yards and TDs will come from this week, but Robinson has as good a chance as any.

Mike

Semi-Finals in a 10 team re-draft league. Scoring is 1pt per reception. rushing and receiving yards are 0.10pts per yard. all TD’s worth 6pts.

Adrian Peterson (RB)
Donald Brown (RB)
Felix Jones (RB)
Jonathan Stewart (RB)
Deangelo Williams (RB)

If you want to start Robinson over Dez, I’d be fine with that. I like Dez better to score this week and get receptions, but Robinson could get balls. I’d still stick with Dez for my own team.

Jones is actually a great start this week and has virtually no backup. Can’t start the CAR RBs because it’s too hard to call week to week as to which will get the touches.

Hey! Fantasy football rookie here.. I’m at top of my league but I’m going against a guy that has rodgers, and tebow. I have ap and mjd though.. Hopefully ap is back. Which two QB’s to start? Freeman, Grossman, Moore, Locker(if he starts)? I have a feeling TN is going to run the ball more if Locker starts… I’m leaning towards Grossman and Freeman.

Other question is if ryan grant starts and Green Bay goes big early do you think they’ll pull out rodgers and let him run more? I have that same feeling with felix jones/tony romo.

Thanks!

Congrats on a great first year. AP is back. I need him this week as well.

Freeman and Grossman are your likely starters. They are both up against poor pass defenses. I do like Locker’s chances this week and think he will score well but I’d play it safe in your situation with starting two QBs. I might be willin to risk Locker if you had a stud at QB.

Grant will start this week and I JUST swapped out Julio Jones to play Grant because I want the guaranteed touches. They could pull Rodgers but it wouldn’t be before the 4th quarter and I have every expectation that GB will be playing Rodgers all the way through the end of the season and only pulling him if they are well ahead in the 4th quarter. Grant should be solid this week for 12-15 rushing attempts and at least 3 receptions.

For the record, I do like Felix Jones this week as well.

Spiller – I hate to say it, but he starts from this group.

I don’t think you want to start both WRs from DAL so I’d go with Austin and VJax.

But I’m going to take my last statement back and say in her flex spot, to start Bryant. This is much easier to do if it’s a PPR league.

Either way, Dallas should throw at will against TB. I’d like to start Blount but can’t recommend him. If this is a non PPR league, she could start Blount over Spiller.

After a great regular season of acquiring and stashing talent, injuries to F Jax, Forte, and Jennings leave me in a tough spot and down 7 going into week 2 of my playoff matchup.

Non PPR. 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 Flex. Here is what I have to work with:

RB
Ray Rice
Shonn Green
Willis McGahee

Dez Bryant
Miles Austin
Antonio Brown
Brandon Marshall

Julio Jones

Def
Steelers
Bengals

Rice, Green and Jones at RB
Austin and Marshall at WR – Very tough call though.

In non-PPR I always favor RBs. You need TDs from your WRs but I also like to project yards as well. Bryant is your best TD source in Dallas but I think Austin is just as good this week and should get more yardage. Jones is a possible play but he’s too streaky for me right now. Brown will likely have Charlie Batch throwing to him.

Steelers at D

Jeff – You really helped me out week 13! Thanks! In a 12 team, Dynasty PPR, in the 5th season, made the playoffs the first year, missed the next 3 and blew up my team in the offseason to good results so far! I’d LOVE to win this week with an opponent that is about evenly matched, so here’s what I have……

RB’s – McCoy, Bradshaw, Hillis, Hunter

WR’s – L. Robinson, Steve Johnson, Mike Williams Tampa, Santonio Holmes, Little, Doug Baldwin, Knox, Lance Moore

If you want a high risk, high reward play, consider Moore. I’d probably stick with Holmes though but really don’t like him.

I totally understand….. I had the exact same lineup… And I still might play Moore…. Might take some tinkering while drinking… Thanks again!!

Did you play Moore? He went off today.

Non PPR

Need to start 1 QB : P.Rivers, M.Sanchez, or A.Dalton

Also, out of this group I have to start 3 WRs, 1 TE, and 1 Flex that could be either WR or TE… H.Nicks, M.Wallace, B.Marshall, S.Johnson, J.Graham, and A.Gates. Nicks and Graham are definites and so is Wallace if Big Ben Starts. Then I’m thinking Marshall as my 3rd WR and Gates as my Flex.

If Big Ben doesn’t play I’m thinking of sitting Wallace and replacing him with Johnson…

Thoughts?

I’d stick with Rivers.

I don’t expect Big Ben to play so if he doesn’t, I’d sit Wallace this week. I’m with you in starting him if Ben does start.

Assuming not: Nicks, Marshall, Johnson … and Gates is getting looks.

I agree with everything you have said.

Good luck.

Jacobs, Floyd and Witten. Going to go very conservative and not get too cute here.
