Week Five Lineup Advice

The weekly lineup advice column continues to be one of the most popular features on DLF. Last week, we had over 100 different lineup questions submitted and answered each and every one, as promised.

So, all you have to do again this week is post your question at the bottom of this article.  We’ll give you our answers in real time so you don’t have to wait any longer than you have to.

If you want advice outside of the DLF crew, go ahead and post your question in the DLF forum as well. The answers you’ll find here are intended to only be from the founders of this site, so that’s what you’ll mostly see.

Just make sure to indicate if your league is a PPR league, and if there are any other unique scoring requirements.

Let’s do it!

Should I drop forsett and pick up lynch?

    • Brady

      October 7, 2010 at 6:32 am

Yes, He will be the starter

    • DLF Ken K

      October 7, 2010 at 6:40 am

It stands to reason that Forsett will be phased into a third down role. I’d value Lynch much more at this point, yes.

      October 7, 2010 at 11:18 am

      In a heartbeat.

      October 7, 2010 at 12:30 pm

I question any league that has Lynch as a FA.

    Do you make this trade?

Matt Ryan and Rice and LT

    for

Mendenhall, Matthew Stafford, and Hines Ward

The Ryan team has Rivers as QB1, with only Ronnie Brown as the other RB. WRs are R. White, Collie, Mike Wallace, Mike Williams

The Mendenhall team has Pierre Thomas and Brandon Jackson as RBs, but is stuck with Stafford and Vick as QB. This team also has Royal, D. Jackson, Braylon Edwards, and Smith (car) as WR.

      Dynasty League?

        No and PPR

    • DLF Ken M

      October 7, 2010 at 11:21 am

In a redraft league, If I am the Ryan, Rice, LT team, no I am not doing this.

who do I start…Ryan Torain or LT?

    • DLF Ken K

      October 7, 2010 at 6:42 am

LT has a tough matchup against the Vikings, but I want to see more from Torain before recommending playing him over what looks to be a top 10 RB this season.

      I’d go with LT.

    • DLF Ken M

      October 7, 2010 at 11:05 am

      LT for sure!

  4. HotRod

    October 7, 2010 at 6:27 am

Which WR do you like and why? no ppr or return yds

    Murphy v SD
    M Williams @ Cin
    Bowe @ Ind
    Crabtree v. Phi

    Thanks

    • DLF Ken K

      October 7, 2010 at 6:44 am

Murphy was clearly not healthy last week and I’m still not sure he’s 100%.

Bowe hasn’t done much at all and even thought the Chiefs will surely be throwing, I don’t trust him.

Crabtree had a mediocre performance, but I still need to see more before trusting him as well.

That leaves a rookie WR against an underrated defense, but I’d still take Tampa Williams off a bye and hope he scores in 3 out of 4.

    • DLF Ken M

      October 7, 2010 at 11:07 am

Pretty much agree with the above. Not a great group to choose from, but bye weeks can be tough. Go with Williams and hope for the best!

  5. Edward Cross

    October 7, 2010 at 6:40 am

Choosing between Dez and Spiller in my flex spot this week.

One thing that may tip the balance: 1pt per 25 return yards. Non PPR.

    • DLF Ken K

      October 7, 2010 at 6:45 am

Yeah, that tips it in favor of Spiller for me.

    • DLF Ken M

      October 7, 2010 at 11:07 am

      Spiller.

i have wr problems wondering what you guys think, my number on wr is on bye week (marshall). i have

    S.Moss WA at GB
    MCCluster KC at IND
    A.Benn TB at CIN

im trying to pick up a wr off wavier wire. i need two right now im going with Moss and McCluster.

    • DLF Ken M

      October 7, 2010 at 11:12 am

      If I get this right, I think you are asking which two of these three to start. If so, and assuming this is a non PPR league I’d say;

      Santana Moss for sure

Benn and McCluster are both total long-shots, but if I had to choose I’d probably go for upside with McCluster, especially if you get points for return yardage.

      • Dan

        October 7, 2010 at 7:24 pm

sorry yes i was asking which two to start and it is ppr league, we dont get points for return yards but do for tds that the player returns.

        • DLF Ken K

          October 9, 2010 at 1:28 pm

Moss is the best choice here for sure. No question about it this week.

  7. Patsfan

    October 7, 2010 at 6:52 am

    (standard scoring)

I need 2 Wr and 1 Flex out of the following:

Calvin, Jennings, Nicks, l Moore, Torian, Tolbert, M Bush, Blount

    Thanks!

    • Dan

      October 7, 2010 at 6:59 am

nicks, calvin and torian would be my picks

    • DLF Ken K

      October 9, 2010 at 1:29 pm

In a non PPR, I’d take Nicks, Calvin, and Torain here. The Texans can be thrown on for sure.

    • Jeff Haverlack

      October 9, 2010 at 5:43 pm

I’d go with Calvin, Nicks and Bush

  8. Zangief

    October 7, 2010 at 6:54 am

    Dynasty PPR

Currently starting: Djax, Calvin, and Harvin

Flex spot: Britt, Williams (TB), or M. Floyd… does Ivory trump all if Thomas is out?

    Thanks!

    • Dan

      October 7, 2010 at 7:15 am

i like ivory if thomas is out.

    • DLF Ken M

      October 7, 2010 at 11:15 am

      Absolutely play Floyd there.

Ivory is too much of an unknown, Britt is too inconsistent, Wiliams too unproven. Floyd is a known quantity and the #1 WR on a good offense. SD will probably run like crazy on OAK, but passing opportunities will be there and it would not shock me if OAK focuses on shutting down Gates, leaving their WR’s a little more open.

    • DLF Ken K

      October 9, 2010 at 1:31 pm

To me, it’s between Floyd and Britt. Kenny has been coming on, but I trust Rivers more than Young. Go with Floyd…

    Can’t decide: Orton or Kolb?

Also, start Torain or roll the dice w/ McCoy?

    • DLF Ken M

      October 7, 2010 at 11:18 am

Kolb against the weak SF D.
Torain for sure. I very much doubt McCoy will play, and even if he does he will be very limited.

    • DLF Ken K

      October 9, 2010 at 1:33 pm

Brutal matchup for Orton this week, but I think he’s reaching must start territory. I’d actually go with Orton and Torain.

  10. bdynomite

    October 7, 2010 at 8:59 am

    From: bdynomite
    League Type: Dynasty
    Teams: 8
    PPR: Yes
    IDP: Yes

QB: M. Schaub vs NYG or M. Ryan @CLE

Ryan has a nice matchup while Schaub’s is crappy, I also am hesitant to start Schaub if I’m not sure Johnson is going to play. Was leaning Ryan.

RB: A. Peterson @NYJ or A. Foster vs NYG or J. Charles @IND (pick 2)

I can’t believe I’m considering sitting ADP, please tell me I’m crazy! His matchup is awful and Foster and Charles neither of whom are slouches play terrible run defenses. Argh! Leaning Peterson and Foster.

    WR/TE: D. Bowe @IND or D. Bryant vs TEN or M. Sims-Walker @BUF

I always have problems deciding on my 4th receiver, Dez is probably the most consistant of these guys but they all have decent match-ups. Was leaning Dez.

    Thanks y’all!

    • admin

      October 7, 2010 at 11:28 am

Definitely Ryan, esp. with A Johnson still not at 100%.

AP and Foster all the way to victory!

Tough call between Bowe and Bryant imho. I’d probably go with Dez only because I trust Romo more than I do Cassel.

      Good luck!

    • DLF Ken K

      October 9, 2010 at 1:35 pm

QB: Schaub at home, the Giants defense isn’t as good as the Bears made it look.

RB: Foster and Peterson for sure. You just don’t mess with that.

WR: I’d actually go with Dez Bryant as well.

  11. Mikey

    October 7, 2010 at 9:50 am

Who would you start this week, Rivers or Bradford? I usually don’t question plugging Rivers in but the matchups seem to be telling me to switch it up.
Also, Do you think dropping Kenny Britt for Aaron Hernandez is a good play? 12 team league We start three wideouts and I have Greg Jennings, Hines Ward, Mark Clayton, Braylon Edwards and M.Williams (T.B.) and I have Shiancoe at tight end who I’m a little worried about with Moss coming in.

    Thanks

    • DLF Ken M

      October 7, 2010 at 3:37 pm

      Rivers for sure.

Yes, Britt has been disappointing so far, and Hernandez should get even more looks now with Moss gone.

    • DLF Ken K

      October 9, 2010 at 1:37 pm

Heh. Ken M and I aren’t on the same page this week! I think you’ll need Britt during the bye weeks..but it would help if we knew if it was a dynasty league or not!?!

Rivers is your QB. Put him in and walk away.

  12. Mac

    October 7, 2010 at 10:32 am

    12 team 1/2 ppr 18 roster dynasty

    1. Pick two: Addai, Pierre Thomas, Lesean Mccoy
    2. Pick one: Greg Jennings or Dustin Keller
    3. Pick one: Steven Jackson or Peyton Hillis
    4. Pick two: Dez Bryant, Bowe, Knox, Mike Williams (TB), Mario Manningham
    5. Pick one: Jonathan Stewart or Ryan Matthews
    6. Pick one: Louis Murphy, Demaryius Thomas, Mike Williams (TB)

Thanks guys! Best Dynasty League site out there BY FAR!!!! I’d tell my friends but I like the leg up on my competition!

    • admin

      October 8, 2010 at 12:57 pm

      Thanks Mac!

      1. McCoy is too iffy, so take Addai and Pierre.
      2. Jennings
      3. Jackson if you want upside, Hillis if you want to play it safe.
      4. Not wild about any of them, but I’d probably go Bowe and Williams.
      5. Matthews, not even close.
      6. Williams.

      Good luck!

    • DLF Ken K

      October 9, 2010 at 1:39 pm

      1.) Addai and McCoy
      2.) Jennings
      3.) Jackson
4.) Ugh. Knox and Williams for me.
5.) Mathews…and Ken is right, not close.
6.) Williams, Murphy is still banged up and not close to 100%

    Standard Scoring…

    Who to Start?

Pierre Garcon is likely back in the line up this week. So do I start Garcon or Moore (NO). I need all the points I can get. LOL.

    Thanks

    • admin

      October 8, 2010 at 12:58 pm

Moore is probably a better bet.

      • dlf_KenM

        October 9, 2010 at 2:22 pm

Updating this with the latest info on Collie now, and I agree with Ken K. Collie looks like he will for sure be out so go with Garcon.

    • DLF Ken K

      October 9, 2010 at 1:40 pm

With no return yardage, I’d take Garcon IF Collie is out. If there is return yardage and.or Collie plays, I’d take Moore.

  14. Calogero

    October 7, 2010 at 12:14 pm

Unfortunately my league isn’t a dynasty, but I have a waiver wire question – first, here’s my roster (2RB, 2WR, 1W/R no-ppr no return yardage):

    QB – Brady
RB – Forte, Greene, Felix, Torain, Hightower, B. Scott
WR – Austin, Welker, Wallace, Knox, Demaryius
    TE – Finley

Here’s the problem – Aaron Hernandez is available right now on waivers. Seems like a no-brainer to add him, but I already have Finley at TE and Brady and Welker for the Pats (and on bye) and if I added Hernandez, it’d be strictly for trade value. I don’t foresee any situation where I’d start him over Finley until the week 10 bye.

    What should I do:

    1. Grab Hernandez and drop Scott (I’m already dropping Demaryius for a plug’n’play QB for this week form Fitz, Hill or Bradford)

    2. Keep Bernard Scott or grab and stash another RB sleeper like Derrick Ward, James Starks or Rashad Jennings OR

    3. Pick up Lance Moore for this week and plug him in as a starter instead of Johnny Knox. Is he even a better option for Week 5?

    • DLF Ken M

      October 8, 2010 at 1:05 pm

Drop Scott, get Starks as he will almost be certainly starting after week 7.

If you can only start 1 TE, and not play a TE at the flex, then I’ll bet there’s not a huge demand for TE’s, and Hernandez wont have a ton of value. If you can play TE at the flex, go ahead and dron Knox and get him, play him this week, and keep or trade as you see fit.

      • DLF Ken K

        October 9, 2010 at 1:43 pm

Agree with Ken M here for sure. There’s no need to pick up players who have “perceived value.” If they don’t fit your team, it’s counterproductive.

Besides, Hernandez won’t have much trade value in your league if he’s already on waivers. If someone wanted him, they would have him already.

  15. Chris Paradis

    October 7, 2010 at 12:40 pm

This is quickly becoming my favorite thing you guys do. We did good last week at crushing my opponents.

So this week, my choices are much more clear cut, though the big one remains..
D-Willy vs a Cutler-less CHI, OR Chris Wells in a game he’s likely to get a chance to back up his talk this week. Whats the consensus on NOS’s rush D?

    Other questions include

    Romo or Rivers?

Flex TB’s M. Williams or Roll the dice on Moreno?

    • DLF Ken M

      October 8, 2010 at 1:09 pm

Still not sold on that CAR ground game, they are super talented but just too one-dimensional. I’d go with Wells and bet he gets more carries.

Rivers is a safer but, but I think Romo has much more upside this week against TENN, esp after a week off to prep. So if you want to go for it, start Romo.

Moreno’s out for week five, so there’s your answer.

      Thanks, and good luck!

    • DLF Ken K

      October 9, 2010 at 1:45 pm

1.) Two teams with some bad QBs and some defenses that focus on your runners (Williams and Wells). That being said, I’d go with Wells and cross my fingers.

      2.) Rivers
      3.) Moreno is out…

  16. Mercs

    PPR

Starting Andre and Calvin, need to pick a WR3.

    Bowe, Bryant, or Britt?

    • DLF Ken M

      October 8, 2010 at 1:02 pm

I’d go with Bryant as he has a greater upside.

    • DLF Ken K

      October 9, 2010 at 1:46 pm

I have my hopes that Bryant will bust out this week as well…

  17. Biggcmo

    October 7, 2010 at 1:17 pm

    PPR scoring..Starts 2 rb, 2 wr, and 2 flex(rb/wr) . here is my team

    RB:Moreno(@Bal),Addai(vs Chiefs),Torain(vsGB),F. jackson(vs jags),M. Bush(vsSD)
    WR: A. Johnson,(vs giants) Bowe(@colts),Royal(@Bal),Lloyd(@Bal), Walter(vs giants)

so out of these guys i need 6 Starters. Obviously if healthy im starting AJ, but im just not sure about the rest. The Bronco passing game is hot and im considering starting both Royal and Lloyd…would that be wise??

    • DLF Ken K

      October 9, 2010 at 1:48 pm

Two RBs: M Bush, Torain (everyone else shares some)
      Two WRs: AJ, Lloyd
      Two Flex: Addai, Walter

You do have some trouble there for sure. You end up with two Broncos or two Texans almost any way you cut it. I’d look to make some moves to diversify your team a little.

    • DLF Ken M

      October 9, 2010 at 2:28 pm

Started ranking these and ended up with exactly the same choices ad Ken K. Hope Johnson is healthy enough to start and play well. Good luck!

Shaun Hill vs STL or Ryan Fitzpatrick vs JAC?

    • DLF Ken M

      October 8, 2010 at 1:10 pm

Hill’s been on fire, DET is better than their 0-4 record, and the STL matchup is choice.

      BUF is just simply awful.

      Absolutely go with Hill.

      • DLF Ken K

        October 9, 2010 at 1:49 pm

Fitzpatrick has played surprisingly well, but I’d take Hill against the Rams as well.

  19. designguy

    October 7, 2010 at 2:09 pm

My RB core is awful, and I have depth at WR – Do I trade Fitzgerald for SJax?
it leaves me with Austin, Welker & Boldin as my starting 3 WR’s
    Non – PPR

    • DLF Ken K

      October 9, 2010 at 1:50 pm

Dynasty or no? If it’s not, I could see you doing that deal. If it IS, there’s no way I’d move Fitzgerald for Jackson.

If ryan grant is available on waivers do you recommend pickng him up and stashing him until next year or do you feel that his injury may hamper him from here on out ?

    • DLF Ken K

      October 9, 2010 at 1:54 pm

If Ryan Grant is available on waivers in a dynasty league, you have to pick him up immediately.

      • DLF Ken M

        October 9, 2010 at 2:36 pm

Especially if you have any IR spots and he wont count against your regular roster, absolutely go for it. If however you have a really small bench, then I suppose it depends on who you have to drop. He is almost 28, and has a few injuries, so I’d temper my long term expectations. But that said, in most cases, I’d say yes, go for it.

  24. Adam

    October 7, 2010 at 4:46 pm

Not looking for a lineup overhaul and my scoring system is too complex to outline, so generally speaking could you start Santonio Holmes this week ahead of any of the following? Brandon Lloyd, Brandon Tate, Massaquoi, DHB.

    • DLF Ken K

      October 9, 2010 at 1:55 pm

      I’d rank them as follows:

      Lloyd
      Tate
      Holmes
      Mass
      DHB

      • DLF Ken M

        October 9, 2010 at 2:37 pm

        for me.

I love your site. I check it daily.

In my dynasty 12 team ppr league, I need to choose 1 of 3 to start as my flex. Please help.

    J Stewart, Crabtree, or Moeaki

and then do I go with Palmer or Orton?

    Thank you!

    • DLF Ken K

      October 9, 2010 at 1:58 pm

      Thanks Jeremy!

That’s all we want is a daily bookmark. Thing is, this is more the OFFSEASON for us. Check back all Summer and you’ll see what I mean.

Hmm. In a PPR league, I’d probably take Crabtree, but those are some rough options.

      Orton for sure.

    • DLF Ken M

      October 9, 2010 at 2:46 pm

      Orton for sure.

Tough choice on the flex… very close between Crabs and Moeaki for me.

I’d probably go with Moeaki only because a) he’ll be looked for a bit more in the end zone than will Crabs, and b) I hate A Smith just a hair more than I hate Cassel.

But I agree, it is close, so there’s no wrong choice. Or maybe, in their case, there’s no right choice…

Which two RBs whould you start (Mendy has a bye)

I’m thinking you’re right with Williams and Wells. The rest are unpredictable.

Hmm. Gaffney and Thomas actually. I don’t typically recommend two players from the same team, but I don’t see another sensible option.

      • DLF Ken M

        October 9, 2010 at 2:48 pm

Agreed, not ideal but with both Gaffney and Thomas the odds are pretty high at least one of them will have a huge day.

I need some waiver wire help. Kenny Britt and Davone Bess were dropped last week at roster cut down, we had a 2 players taxi. Brandon Tate is also available. I have the 1st, 5th and 8th WW pick this week (acquired through trades). I would like to know who to put in for first choice waiver, I’m dropping Stephen Williams and James Jones. Unless you think Brandon Jackson is a better drop. I’m 2-2 and 2nd in my division. Points scored is 2nd highest in the league, just been unlucky with matchups. It’s a 12 teams head to head dynasty league 17 players + 2 Def. 1 pt for 10 yds, 6 pts for TD. No PPR and no return yards.

    My roster,
    Michael Vick QB PHI
    DeAngelo Williams RB CAR
    Rashard Mendenhall RB PIT

16 team H2H league, 0.5 PPR, trying to figure out who should fill my flex spot, narrowed it down to 3 choices:

    L.Muprhy vs SD
    L.Robinson @ DET
    M.Bush vs SD
    J.Harrison vs ATL

I also I currently have McCoy in my RB2 spot in this same league, I am going to be gone for the weekend and am wondering if I should take him out and place Bush or Harrison in there for McCoy.

    Thanks, fellas!

    • DLF Ken K

Bush and McCoy are by far the best plays. Hopefully McCoy starts!

    Sanchez vs MIN

    Romo vs TEN

    • DLF Ken K

      October 9, 2010 at 2:02 pm

I’d take Romo at home. Sanchez has been pretty good, but he’s not an elite talent and the Cowboys have had two weeks to get their offense straightened out.

      Romo

Hey guys, thanks again for this gem of a site…

    Non ppr flex question here… TD = 10 pts, 10 yds = 1 pt, 100 yds = 5 pt bonus …

    Zach Miller
    Jermichael Finley
    Chris Ivory

Also, I sat on Vick (FA pickup while in the joint) for 3 yrs, then sold high last week to my division rival (currently 1-3) for his #1 pick in 2011 (5 rd. rookie-only draft). Schaub is my #1 QB…. Good move? I like Luck out of Stanford; better unproven him then 30 yr. old Vick, or no?

    Much Obliged…

    JH

    • DLF Ken K

      October 9, 2010 at 2:03 pm

Finley is a solid bet there, without hesitation.

You did well selling Vick. Don’t get married to any one college player, though. It will cloud your thinking.

    • Jeff Haverlack

      October 9, 2010 at 5:47 pm

Finley for sure, start him with confidence. Nice patience there, you must be a reader of the site. ;O)

    • kiddragonsoft

      October 10, 2010 at 6:56 am

I own Vick. Picked him up earlier this year. IMO you could have gotten more for him. Vick is top 5 QB. I equate him to Peyton and Brady fantasy wise. They are about the same age. He’ll prob play 4-5 more years. If you were to say trade Tom Brady for a 1st round pick. I don’t think it would sound like a good deal.

Who to start PPR League Head to Head Matchup:
Need QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, TE, Flex (WR/RB)

QB: Matt Ryan (vs. Cle) or Kyle Orton (Bal)- I’m going with Ryan (obviously)

RB: Peyton Hillis (vs. Atl), Jamaal Charlers (vs. Ind), Thomas Jones (vs. Ind), Spiller (vs. Jac), Shonn Greene (vs. Min)
WR: Colston (vs. Ari), Mike Williams (TB) (vs. Cin), Gaffney (vs. Bal), Harry Douglas (vs. Cle)

    TE: Got J. Finley

    Thanks

      TE: Finley
      Flex: Greene

    In a non-PPR league.

As W/R/T, should i start Moeaki (against a stingy Colts defense against TEs) or McCluster?

    • DLF Ken K

      October 9, 2010 at 2:05 pm

I’d recommend Moeaki. After just a few weeks, it’s tough to say which defenses do well against specific positions.

    • Jeff Haverlack

      October 9, 2010 at 5:47 pm

Moeaki for sure. Colts don’t have any healthy starting safeties and Mo could get deep.

    .5 ppr league…
Pick one for TE: Pettigrew, Boss or Olsen

Pick two for WR: Royal, Gaffney and M.Williams(TB)

Also, Bengals D is on the wire and I have the Falcons D. We charge $1 per transaction so should I stick with Falcons D or pick up the Bengals D for more long term value along with this weekends matchups?

    • DLF Ken K

      October 9, 2010 at 2:07 pm

      Pettigrew
In a .5 ppr, I’d take Royal and Williams

I’d stick with the Falcons for now, but it depends on how much money you have and how important it really is to you. Is that real money or bid dollars?

    • Jeff Haverlack

      October 9, 2010 at 5:49 pm

I’m going to go with Olsen here. With Cutler out, the simplified approach should find Olsen with a lot of targets.

Stay with the Falcons, save the money.

  35. Frank Benacquista

    • Jeff Haverlack

My roster: Rivers, Gore, R Brown, J Stew, D Jax, Nicks, M Clayton, Z Miller, Knox, L Evans, J Jones, L Murphy, M Wallace, M Thomas.

Obviously I have tons of depth at WR and am light at RB. I have two trade options: Nicks for Lynch and Tolbert or Nicks for Hillis. Which one or neither?

    I’m leaning towards Hillis.

    • Goof

      October 8, 2010 at 11:52 pm

mccluster will run through the Indy D with no reliable safety to stop them on short passing routes (the only one matt cassell can throw). There really are so many mediocre passing options in STL, thatyou never know who could get the touches.

Rice and Bradshaw there for sure. Austin and Colston are your easy choices there. It’s still early in the year…

    • Jeff Haverlack

      October 9, 2010 at 5:51 pm

Never sit Rice. Bradshaw draws the start over Dwill this week,

Due to PPR, go with Bryant and Austin. I’m not high on Colston either.

  39. Rumford

    October 8, 2010 at 9:34 am

    Standard scoring

RB (pick 1): Peyton Hillis (v ATL), Jamaal Charles (@ IND)
WR (pick 1): Desean Jackson (@ SF), Santana Moss (v GB)

Peyton Hillis will probably put up some solid points this week, as always, but is taking a risk on Charles worth the potential pay-off?

Also, will Charles Woodson be enough of a problem for Santana Moss that Desean Jackson will do better even with Kevin Kolb behind center?

    • DLF Ken K

      October 9, 2010 at 2:11 pm

Hillis is becoming a good option and Charles somehow can’t get carries. I’d go with Hillis there. I’ll take Jackson over Moss every game this year. Don’t overthink it.

    • Jeff Haverlack

      October 9, 2010 at 5:52 pm

      RB: Charles
      WR: Jackson

Woodson isn’t a problem until he’s running with the ball.

In a 20 team dynasty league no ppr.

    At RB I have F Gore,D Williams, S Jackson,and B Wells. My WR are R Wayne,T Owens,M Clayton,B Berrian,T Ginn. We start 2 rb and 3 wr and a flex. Im thinking i should trade off 1 of my RB’s for a WR.

    Who should i trade?

What WR should i try for?

    • Goof

      October 8, 2010 at 11:57 pm

i would trade high on S Jackson now. He is still a main feature back, but he has shown that he can be unreliable every week (how many times in the last 3 seasons have you worried about starting him because of injury) Who you should get depends on your QB’s. You could try to get a Calvin Johnson, and then swing for Stafford while he’s injured.

    • DLF Ken K

      October 9, 2010 at 2:15 pm

In a TWENTY team league, I’d actually stay where I’m at and wait for someone to approach you. That’s a quality stable of players and there have to be some teams who are really needy at RB.

It also depends on your record. If you’re losing, then I’d actively look at moving Jackson. If not, make a run.

  42. jayroi

    October 8, 2010 at 11:24 am

    Hi there. Love the blog.

I am in a 16 team PPR league that starts QB, 2RB,2WR,2 WR/RB Flex,TE, K, D. Just looking to load my bench will better players. I am currently sitting on top at number 1 so super sleepers are usually my waivers. We only get one a week, been building the bench up. But currently I am wondering who to drop and pick up.

    On my bench I have

    Lynch
    Sproles
    Crayton
Buchalter (Handcuff to No Show Moreno)
    Chambers
    Crayton
    S RIce

My starting lineup looks something like this
    Brees
    Moreno
    Blount
    Austin
    B Edwards
    TO
    Maclin
    A Gates
    Akers
    Titans D

I am very weak at the RB situation. Have had Lynch all season so I am excited for that trade. Anyway, I want more WR depth and RB depth. The waiver wire has very small group of people considering it’s a 16 team league. My top choices right now are

    James Starks
    David Gettis
    Stokley
    Parish
    Lafell
    Scott Benard

I am leaning towards James Starks hearing the rumors about him coming back soon to possibly fight for the spot in GB. But I don’t think anyone in my league is looking at him yet, so hopefully pick him up next week considering he can’t be activated until then. But again possibly the news will hit about him being activated and picked up. Do you guys think that getting him now would be better than later, or should I use my pick up on one of the receivers. thanks

    • Chris Paradis

      October 8, 2010 at 11:48 am

Forget Gettis, Grab Clowney if you’re looking for a CAR wide out. Starks, Huggins and Karim should be on your radar for a some stash away RBs for sure. Starks has a lot hype surrounding his return in a few weeks, but the dude’s been a poster boy for Injury Prone Anonymous.

        • Chris Paradis

          October 8, 2010 at 2:17 pm

Deji Karim, JAX’s rookie RB. Lit it up in TC & early preseason before hurting his thumb. He’s finally healthy, and Jennings has already been ruled out this week. He’s gonna get some play against BUF for sure, and probably show up as blip on FF radar.

Take a look back at some of the off-season stuff on him. JAX was sporting some serious wood.

        • Goof

Crayton and Chambers can go. I actually think Buckhalter can go as well. Would you play him when/if Moreno goes down? Maroney is still in the mix there, too.

I’d dump those three and get Starks, Scott, and Gettis.

    • Jeff Haverlack

      October 9, 2010 at 5:55 pm

That’s close but Garcon isn’t exactly lighting it up and with Collie looking great, Garcon could find himself sliding. I’d wait it out another few weeks.

    • DLF Ken K

      October 9, 2010 at 2:22 pm

I’d go with Naanee as the Panthers passing game is horrible at the moment.

I’d probably play Blount thinking he has the best chance to score. Your TE options are rough. I’d look to the wire to see if anyone else is available. Ben Watson perhaps?

    • Jeff Haverlack

      October 9, 2010 at 5:58 pm

Naanee. I still play Stewart out of that group. WilHo is probably best of the two TEs. Patrick has been a significant disappointment. Is Joel Dreesen available by chance?

    Hi Guys!

I’m “TRY” to keep my questions to a minimum this week!

    PPR league

I need 2: Jahvid Best home vs St Louis, Ahmad Bradshaw, Arian Foster

Need 3 WRs: DeSean, Royal, Percy Harvin, Bowe?

    Thanks

    • Chris from Alberta

      October 9, 2010 at 1:05 pm

I’d say forget bradshaw, and go with Royal, Harvin and Bowe. I don’t like anything about PHI’s passing game going up against a desperate 49ers and their defense.

    • DLF Ken K

      October 9, 2010 at 2:23 pm

Best and Foster are your RBs. Your WRs should be Jackson, Royal and Harvin IMO.

    PPR leagues

I have two Pick fives for you:

    First one:
Jahvid Best, Fred Jackson, Fitz, TO, Mike Williams-TB, Kenny Britt?
I’m thinking to sit either Williams or Britt?

Second one: Gore, Greene, J Stew, D Will, Jennings, Megatron, Lance Moore, Randy Moss, Eddie Royal, Mike Williams – TB, SS-NYG. I’m leaning towards the run and shoot with Gore, Megatron, Moss, Jennings, and Moore?

    That’s it for the week!!

    Thanks

      October 9, 2010 at 2:26 pm

1.) I’d sit Britt as well
2.) Gore, D Will, Jennings, Calvin, Moss

I’d take Williams over Lance Moore…Saints WRs are incredibly inconsistent from week to week.

      October 9, 2010 at 6:00 pm

“That’s if for the week!!” – I don’t believe you! Thanks for coming back though.

I’d sit Williams in that group. Britt is getting the start with Gage out and he’s scored in his last two games.

      2) I agree with Ken.

Non PPR,all TD’s 6 Pt’s,plus yardage. No negative points for INT’s,fumbles. My league plays with a team QB.So I have Kolb, also Josh Freeman.Ryan Fitzpatrick is also available on the wire.My question is which one is the best start.Kolb,Freeman,or Fitzpatrick.

    • DLF Ken K

      October 9, 2010 at 2:27 pm

I’d go with the Eagles QBs and Kolb here. Cincinnati’s defense is underrated.

Somebody in my league dropped Garcon, so I picked him up because my WR’s kind of stink but I’m having trouble deciding if he should start this week.

I need two of these three WR’s in a non-ppr league.

    M. Williams(TB)
    S. Moss(WAS)
    P. Garcon(IND)

    Thanks,

    Love the sight!

    • DLF Ken K

      October 9, 2010 at 2:28 pm

Moss and Williams unless Collie is out. That’s your deciding factor for sure. If he is, Garcon over Williams.

    Flex option (PPR, 12 team):
Harry Douglas (at CLE), Craig Davis (at OAK), Roscoe Parrish (vs JAC) or Laurent Robinson (at DET)

    Thanks

Douglas! If he ends up being the guy being covered by Eric Wright then say hello to 20+ points.

    • DLF Ken K

      October 9, 2010 at 2:29 pm

Yikes. I don’t know if those players will COMBINE for 20 points. I’d take Parrish.

SJax looks good to go against DET, so I have to differ with Jeff on this, and say

      Foster and Jackson.

    • DLF Ken K

      October 10, 2010 at 7:13 am

I like Jackson against the Lions as well. Let’s go with Stevie and Foster.

I’ve got Micahel Bush (vs SD), JStew (vs CHI), Spiller (vs JAC), and Christopher Ivory (at ARI) and I need to start two. .25 per reception and 1 point per 50 return yards.

    Thanks

    • DLF Ken K

      October 9, 2010 at 9:09 pm

Bush and Spiller based on the return yardage, but Bush is really your only safe play there.

    • DLF Ken M

      October 10, 2010 at 5:48 am

      Bush for sure.
And Spiller as he’s really the only other good bet.

Non PPR league – need some help please. 2 WR, 2 RB, 1 flex. You guys have been on so far! Let’s keep up the streak. Thanks a ton.

    WR:
    Smith(NYG)
    Clayton
    Driver
    Walter

    RB:
    D-Williams
    Bradshaw
    Wells
    Benson

      RB: Benson, Bradshaw

    • Jeff Haverlack

      October 10, 2010 at 8:26 am

Non-PPR I go with Diver and Clayton or Walter (your choice). Steve Smith just isn’t that valuable in non-PPR.

I play the 3 RBs, Dwill, Bradshaw and Benson.

Need to start one of the following WRs in a PPR league.

    Dez Bryant
    Kenny Britt
    Dwayne Bowe

A second part to this one is that I only have to start one RB so I could start 2 of those WR’s listed and bench Matthews. So that would be another option, however I still need to start of the WRs no matter what.

    Thanks

    • DLF Ken M

      October 10, 2010 at 5:54 am

Definitely start Matthews, he should have a breakout game against the Raiders soft run D.

And start Dez of these WR’s.

  61. The Vich

    October 10, 2010 at 6:45 am

Alright Jeff – you got me! One more question…. only because of a change in injury status!!

PPR league. 12 team league. Pick 5… I’m currently starting S Jax, Bradshaw, Anquan @home agnst Denver, Megatron, Hakeem Nicks at Houston’s terrible D.

It appears now that Andre Johnson is going to play – how effective he’ll be. I don’t know. I seem to blow these decision too many times. I left Boldin on the bench for his 3 TD games and took an L. Do you sit Johnson – I know he a stud, but he’s actually my 5th hihgest scoring WR (also have Marshall on a Bye)? I could sit Bradshaw, Boldin, or Nicks possibly. What do you think?

Thanks Guys – I still love this site! Enjoy the games today.

    • Jeff Haverlack

      October 10, 2010 at 8:28 am

I’d probably play Johnson. I have the same issue with Johnson this week and I’ll be playing him. I still don’t trust Nicks yet over Johnson. The real question is “How healthy is Johnson?”. I just can’t leave him on the bench with him starting.

  62. Nate

    October 10, 2010 at 7:26 am

    Non PPR,1 PT.=10 YD’s.Who do I start.Louis Murphy vs.SD orSantana Moss vs.GB.

    October 11, 2010 at 9:38 pm

Trade question: 12 team, redraft, 0.2 ppr

    Current team:
    QBs: Eli Manning, Mark Sanchez
WRs: Miles Austin, Brandon Marshall, Jeremy Maclin, Kenny Britt
RBs: Adrian Peterson, Pierre Thomas, Jonathan Stewart
    TE: Jermichal Finley

Was offered my Jahvid Best for either Austin or Marshall.

Do I take this offer and if so, which WR do I give up?

    Thanks guys.

  64. Jeff Haverlack

    October 12, 2010 at 5:39 pm

I don’t think you make that trade. Would leave you too thin in WR and the Austin/Marshall combo is very nice to have. The .2 PPR is interesting and that does reduce the value of the WRs a bit but the addition of Best just doesn’t make your RB corp. that much stronger in my opinion. I’d sit tight and hope that Thomas comes back and Stewart wakes up.
