Marc Bulger unexpectedly signed a one-year deal with Baltimore today for an estimated $3.8 million dollars. While this may not seem to be heart stopping news, it does have some very clear fantasy implications for a variety of players. Let’s take a look!
Marc Bulger QB, BAL
After taking an absolute beating in St. Louis the past few seasons, a clipboard is exactly what Bulger needs. He’ll be of no threat to Joe Flacco and shouldn’t be taken at all in yearly leagues. In fact, he should be rostered in only the deepest dynasty leagues only as insurance for Joe Flacco owners.
Joe Flacco QB, BAL
Bulger will be no threat to Flacco’s job, whatsoever. This is his team and he’s proven to be a great leader. If anything, Bulger’s presence could prove to be worthwhile for Flacco. After all, he has a lot of game experience and his knowledge in the film room will be very valuable.
Troy Smith QB, BAL
He’ll be in a big-time battle with John Beck to be the 3rd QB now. He really wanted out of Baltimore, but not this way. If he gets released, there aren’t too many homes out there.
Derek Anderson QB, ARI
Many believe Bulger would ultimately end up in Arizona to challenge Anderson to be Matt Leinart’s backup. It’s obviously not going to happen, so Anderson’s roster spot and ability to challenge Leinart are solidified now.
Matt Leinart QB, ARI
You can breathe a little easier, but all eyes are upon you.
John Skelton QB, ARI
This should ensure Skelton has a legitimate shot to make the team as the 3rd QB. His sleeper status just went up a notch or two. After all, we’ve seen what Anderson can do and we have a pretty good guess on Leinart as well.
If something was to happen to Flacco, Bulger would help to maintain the value of Boldin and Co. He certainly doesn’t possess the skills that Flacco does at this point, but I’d feel a whole lot better as a Boldin owner with Bulger than Smith or Beck.
Marc Bulger’s decision to go to Baltimore is a surprising one. It’s created a ripple effect from D.C. all the way to the desert.
