The Dynasty Aftermath: Week Fifteen

Welcome to DLF’s Dynasty Aftermath. This staple article is our longest running signature piece as we have a little fun after a tough week at the Dynasty League Football office. You’ll find this article will review the week’s happenings in a variety of ways and help set you up for the coming weeks as we spin around the league in the way we know best.

The world was taken over this week by Star Wars: The Force Awakens. I won’t litter this column with spoilers, but I will say the fact JJ Abrams was able to deliver on a film with expectations this lofty is truly amazing. I’m an admitted STAR WARS junkie. I’ve watched the movies more times than I count and take offense to anyone who doesn’t love each every film (well, other than the first two and part of the third). The Force Awakens was a fantastic re-boot to the franchise and while there are still many questions and a few plot holes, the overall experience of the movie is fantastic, even for a die hard fan.

As we reach the title game, expect some STAR WARS references.

Week Fifteen Fantasy MVP

Cam Newton has turned into a Skywalker of fantasy football. This week, he turned in another epic performance with 340 passing yards, 100 rushing yards and five touchdowns. It’s as if he’s putting a Jedi mind trick on opposing defensive backs and convincing them Ted Ginn is actually good.

Week Fifteen Fantasy LVP

This will be the first and only time I ever put a player who posts six catches, 76 yards and a touchdown as the LVP, but that’s exactly what Odell Beckham, Jr. was this week. Perhaps his total helped propel you to the finals, but his actions on the field may have cost you a title as it looks like he’ll be suspended this week for his idiotic actions against Josh Norman of the Panthers. I get the competitive nature of the game, but that was ridiculous and fantasy owners will need years to forgive him as he could be the “solo” reason they lose this week. As he was targeting Norman’s head, it was like Anakin Skywalker turning into Darth Vader right before our eyes.

Gut Checks

I’d be worried if I had Calvin Johnson for the title game. He’s looking like a decoy at best right now. He’s like the Captain Phasma of fantasy football right now – no more than a tease.

I’d be worried if I was expecting anything for a San Francisco running back the rest of the way.

I’d be worried if I was underestimating Tyrod Taylor.

I’d be worried if I was expecting consistency from any Eagles player.

I’d be worried if I was relying on Christine Michael this week. I don’t think the force has awoken here.

I’d be worried if I thought DeMarco Murray wasn’t going to be in a different uniform next season.

I’d be worried if I wasn’t excited about what Sammy Watkins is finally doing.

I’d be worried if I had Drew Brees. That injury is no joke.

I’d be worried if I didn’t think Kellen Moore gave Dez Bryant and Jason Witten “A New Hope” to close out the season.

I’d be worried if I was playing against Kamar Aiken. I really didn’t think he could produce like that.

I’d be worried if I was relying on Lamar Miller this week.

I’d be worried if I was thinking Emmanuel Sanders was going to do that again this week.

I’d be worried if I was starting any Patriots running back other than James White in a PPR league.

I’d be worried if I was playing against Russell Wilson or Doug Baldwin about now. Jedi powers unite!

Eddie Lacy. Just Eddie Lacy.

I’d be worried if I had given up on Julius Thomas.

I’d be worried if I hadn’t noticed how good Dorial Green-Beckham has looked lately.

And the most important thing of all. I’d be worried if I got cute with my lineup this week and benched any stud because I overthought things.

A Look Ahead to Hot Names on the Waiver Wire

I could throw out some names here (Joey Iosefa, Mike Gillislee, Donald Brown, Kellen Moore), but I’d encourage everyone in a championship game to go with what got you there. A week fourteen one-week wonder is hard to rely on with at title on the line.

Previous Suggestions:

Brandon LaFell, Derek Carrier, Lance Moore, Albert Wilson, Dion Lewis, James Jones, Travis Benjamin, Darren Fells, Rishard Matthews, Darrius Heyward-Bey, Josh McCown, Antonio Andrews, Michael Vick, Thomas Rawls, Stefon Diggs, Roy Helu, Andre Williams, Chris Thompson, Charcandrick West, Jamison Crowder, Robert Turbin, Tim Wright, Knile Davis, Zach Zenner, Chris Givens, Robert Woods, Orleans Darkwa, DeAngelo Williams, Kendall Gaskins, Bennie Fowler, Kenbrell Thompkins, Glenn Winston, Shaun Draughn, Danny Amendola, Case Keenum, Wes Welker, Tre McBride, Rod Smith, Keshawn Martin, Rashad Greene, Brock Osweiler, JJ Nelson, Spencer Ware, Vernon Davis, Chris Harper, Scott Chandler, Dontrelle Inman, Chris Polk, Kenjon Barner, Tim Hightower, Bryce Brown, AJ McCarron, Brandon Bolden.
