We will be reviewing the risers, fallers, a premier conference performer, and we will shine a spotlight on the top freshmen every week. These weekly recaps will keep you informed on the “hot” college players around the country and will make studying for your future rookie draft effortless.

BIG 10

Premier Conference Performer

Saquon Barkley, RB Penn State (Freshman)
21 carries, 195 yards, two touchdowns vs. Rutgers

Barkley broke down Rutgers’ defense with his quick feet and shiftiness. He adds a spark to the offense, and he makes it easier for the team to sustain drives with his ability to eat up yardage. Barkley looks like he’s going to have an amazing career at Penn State. For the second week in a row Barkley was named the Big Ten freshman player of the week.

Rising

Aaron Burbridge, WR Michigan State (Senior)
Eight receptions, 156 yards, three touchdowns vs. Air Force

Burbridge is the first wide receiver to score three touchdowns in a game for Michigan State since 2007. In the second quarter he came down with a highlight reel grab in the front of the end zone. This was his third straight 100-yard game, and he has four touchdown receptions on the year.

Jordan Howard, RB Indiana (Junior)
31 carries, 203 yards, three receptions, 38 yards vs. Western Kentucky

Howard wears down defenses and he gets stronger as the game goes on. He rushed for 155 yards in the second half. Howard is currently the leading rusher in the nation.

Connor Cook, QB Michigan State (Senior)
15/23, 247 yards, four touchdowns vs. Air Force

Cook was accurate on most of his throws and did a good job of going through his progressions to hit the open wide receivers. He did well at stepping up in the pocket and taking advantage of what the defense gave him.

Josh Ferguson, RB Illinois (Senior)
22 carries, 133 yards, one touchdown, two receptions, ten yards vs. North Carolina

Ferguson was the only player that came to play for the Illini. He scored on a 1-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and he eclipsed the century mark for the first time this season.

Falling

Cardale Jones, QB Ohio State (Junior)
4/9, 36 yards, two interceptions, two carries, eleven yards vs. Northern Illinois

Bad throws, botched handoffs, and interceptions caused Urban Meyer to bench Jones in the first-half. The quarterback controversy thickens at Ohio State. Jones could potentially find himself on the outside looking in after his atrocious performance last Saturday.

Christian Hackenberg, QB Penn State (Junior)
10/19, 141 yards, one interception vs. Rutgers

Penn State is relying on the run game for the majority of their offensive production. Hackenberg has only thrown one touchdown this season, and he hasn’t looked like a top-notch quarterback prospect.

De’Veon Smith, RB Michigan (Junior)
13 carries, 33 yards, one reception, five yards, one receiving touchdown vs. UNLV

Smith didn’t look like his typical self. He lacked decisiveness which caused him to not hit the holes as hard as he normally would. He looked sluggish and slow. Hopefully, this was just a bad game for him.

Freshman Spotlight

Markell Jones, RB Purdue (Freshman)
Six carries, 90 yards, one touchdown vs. Virginia Tech

Jones was the only bright spot for Purdue last week. He ran for a 60-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to make the game appear closer than what it was in the box score. The Hokies crushed the Boilermakers 51-24.

ACC

Premier Conference Performer

Tyler Boyd, WR Pittsburgh (Junior)
Ten receptions, 131 yards, one touchdown vs. Iowa

Quarterback Nathan Peterman leaned on Boyd heavily against Iowa. The run game wasn’t there and Pitt had to utilize Boyd’s skills to keep them in the game. He caught an eight yard touchdown pass to tie the game with 52 seconds left on the clock. With James Connor out for the season, Pittsburgh needs Boyd to step up and take the reins of the offense.

Rising

Rashawn Scott, WR Miami (Senior)
Nine receptions, 151 yards vs. Nebraska

Quarterback Brad Kaaya had a busy day passing for 379 yards and two touchdowns making, Scott was the benefactor of Kaaya’s passing volume as he was targeted often and was one of the key contributors for Miami last weekend. He secured his second 100-yard game of the season.

Joseph Yearby, RB Miami (Sophomore)
17 carries, 125 yards, one touchdown, one reception, five yards vs. Nebraska

Yearby scored on a 41-yard touchdown in the third quarter to make the score 27-3. He notched his second straight 100-yard game as he is establishing himself has Miami’s go to running back.

Quinshad Davis, WR North Carolina (Senior)
Five receptions, 56 yards, one touchdown vs. Illinois

Davis caught his twenty-second career touchdown reception, which surpasses Hakeem Nicks as the school’s all-time leader for touchdown receptions.

Wayne Gallman, RB Clemson (Sophomore)
24 carries, 139 yards, one reception, one yard vs. Louisville

Gallman exploded to help Clemson beat Louisville 20-17. He was able to chip away at the defense which helped Clemson’s ability to move the chains. He proved that he could be a productive player in this offense while notching his first 100-yard game of the season.

Elijah Hood, RB North Carolina (Sophomore)
16 carries, 129 yards, one touchdown, three receptions, eleven yards vs. Illinois

Hood tore up Illinois’ defense while rushing over 100-yards for the second time in his career. He wore down the defense to help the Tar Heels maintain their lead in the second half.

Falling

Dalvin Cook, RB Florida State (Sophomore)
15 carries, 54 yards, two receptions, three yards vs. Boston College

Boston College did a good job at stopping the run which caused Cook’s productivity to suffer. He left the game for a short period of time in the second half, due to an upper-body injury. He later returned to the field but he looked slow and sluggish. He is not expected to miss any games from the injury.

Darius Wade, QB Boston College (Sophomore)
4/12, 47 yards, one interceptions, Ten carries, 38 yards vs. Florida State

Wade had a rough day. He experienced a lot of pressure from the Florida State defensive line. He was rushed, hurried and sacked during the entire game. His inability to manage the pass rush caused him to throw a lot of inaccurate passes. He was later knocked out of the game with a serious ankle injury.

Justin Thomas, QB Georgia Tech (Junior)
8/24, 121 yards, two touchdowns, 11 carries, 27 yards vs. Notre Dame

Thomas was forced to throw the ball and the results were horrendous. He was off the mark on a lot of his throws. His two touchdowns came in the fourth quarter during garbage time.

Freshman Spotlight

Jordan Ellis, RB Virginia (Freshman)
Five carries, 50 yards, one touchdown vs. William & Marry

Ellis made his debut last week. He rushed for a 39-yard touchdown run on his first career carry in the second quarter.
