The Future of Daily Content on DLF

We’d like to thank all of you for the comments and feedback we receive on a weekly basis.  Without it, it’s really difficult for us to continue to evolve and improve as a site. If you’ve been around DLF long enough, you know we always do our best to hear his type of feedback, listen to what you’re saying and take action when it’s appropriate.

Over the past two weeks, we’ve been seeing an increasing number of comments in regards to the Daily content offering we have on DLF. There are some changes we’ll illustrate below, but we’d also like to address some of the issues individually.

“There’s declining quality and quantity of Dynasty Content!” (The red challenge flag is on the field)

The reality is, we are producing more pure dynasty content now than we ever have before.  The relationship we have with FanDuel is actually helping us pay our writers in order to achieve this. So far this month, we are on pace for 93 dynasty articles (not including daily, IDP or Dynasty Scouts/Devy articles which certainly supplement the dynasty enthusiast). In Sept of 2014, we produced 70 such articles. And so far in 2015, we have generated more dynasty content than in any previous year. In fact, it’s not even close.  And we’re not just looking to create more content, but more quality content.

We’re not always going to be perfect, but we are always working harder than you can possibly imagine in an effort to continue creating the best, most innovative, balanced, thoughtful dynasty fantasy football content anywhere.  We will never allow other forms of content to compromise our primary mission  of being the best dynasty fantasy football resource on the planet and anything we ever add is always going to be over and above our normal dynasty content offering.

“Get Off My Lawn!” (Filtering out the noise)

As for filtering out those articles that are not of interest, we have several navigation options to help with that.

If you wish to look at just a specific topic and weed out any other noise, simply click on the category in our main menu.  Want to see just our Dynasty content, click on the Dynasty menu option.  Want IDP? Then click on IDP. And so forth. That’s the easiest way to narrow down your focus.

The different categories are also broken out right on the home page.  So you can just scan down to the section(s) of interest and focus on those.  Moreover, all of the DFS content is presented only in the free articles. The daily content is simply free, bonus material and not in any way a part of our premium offering.

“What is this, DAILY League Football?!?!”

Finally, the larger question – why is Dynasty League Football even messing with Daily content?  Well, there are several reasons.

1.) Many of our writers play DFS. We started hearing about DFS from some members of our writing team a couple of years ago.  They played DFS, loved DFS (in addition to dynasty) and wanted to write about it.  At first, we were reluctant.  But the more we played and became familiar with DFS, the more we began to believe it to be an ideal complement to Dynasty.  And the more open we were to sharing some content on this format.

2.) It really is a great complement to the dynasty format.  You can credit (or curse) DLF with that message – we got out in front of the Dynasty/DFS complementary relationship before anyone else. But we do understand that just because it’s a great complement doesn’t mean it’s for everyone.  Many love it, some don’t and we will agree, the deluge of DFS advertising, everywhere, all the time, is becoming a bit much for some folks. But to the original point, we do feel it fits with the long-term format of dynasty like a glove and it is a ton of fun.

3.) Our site activity is different in relation to other fantasy football sites. The 35 weeks of the off-season are actually where we have more traffic and we don’t post a single Daily article during that entire period.  And if you are a premium subscriber, none of your premium content is in any way compromised by daily articles during any part of the year.

4.) It’s no secret we have a partnership with FanDuel.  We partner with them to offer a promotion which allows people to get a DLF Premium subscription for only $10. This also gives you the chance to play FanDuel, double your deposit there and get a free DLF Premium subscription, so it’s hard to see a downside there.  It’s a win-win for anyone who wants to give FanDuel a try. This, in turn, brings in revenue we can use to pay for more dynasty, IDP & scouting articles.  The FanDuel partnership absolutely helps DLF do more dynasty and helps many get their subscription to DLF.  And that’s a win for everyone.

So, what are you going to do? (Get to the point already)

Running a site like DLF is an evolutionary process. We’re always trying to adapt to a changing industry. Sometimes we try stuff that works, sometimes it doesn’t work. It’s all part of the process of growing and improving.

Last year, we added the Dynasty Scouts section to provide really deep dynasty and devy dynasty content for those who take their dynasty leagues to the next level and those who wanted to study for upcoming drafts early.  Some liked it, others didn’t, but now it’s a pretty core element of what we offer and it’s something which really distinguishes DLF from so many other sites.

We’ve also added more IDP content.  Surveys of our audience revealed we were not meeting that demand very well, so we’ve worked hard to track down some great IDP additions to our team and ramp up our IDP coverage.  Not everyone plays IDP so it doesn’t appeal to everyone, but we will continue to produce IDP content because there is a demand for it.

So we’re always listening, looking for new opportunities, trying to grow. We love what we do. We are passionate about dynasty above all other things. We love the community that has built up around DLF. And we will do our best to navigate some of these challenges in a way which meets the needs of our community as best as possible.

Here are some things you’re going to see to help improve the site.

1.) We’re going to take the Daily articles off the “Free” section and have them only housed in the “Daily” section.  They’ll still be on the slider up on top, but this will essentially create a “Free” and “Premium” content tab that won’t have any DFS articles on it, other than our weekly contest announcement.  This should help solve the problem of people feeling like there’s some kind of takeaway happening in regards to the content. If you don’t want Daily articles, they won’t be listed in the free or Premium sections. If you want to read our Daily articles, you’ll need to simply navigate down to get to them or click on the Daily tab.

2.) We’re going to dial back the Daily content.  Moving forward, we’re going to offer the five most popular Daily articles each week for our daily enthusiasts (all will be free and found in our Daily content tab and section):

  • DLF Football Championship (a weekly post by DLF outlining our weekly game)
  • FanDuel Bargains
  • FanDuel Stacks
  • Contrarian Daily Plays
  • FanDuel Four (a combined article featuring four different FanDuel lineup ideas)

We believe these simple changes will help you all filter out what you DON’T want, help you find what you DO want and still keep things chugging right along at DLF. Keep in mind, we had 31 dynasty related articles during the same time period last week. Rest assured we’re simply trying to create the best fantasy football experience on the web and will continue to do whatever it takes to be at the top of your bookmarks list. We feel these simple changes will help achieve that goal.

Thanks for reading!
