The DLF Team

fdchamp2015_640

Last week 201 of your fellow DLF community members shared in a $7,000 prize pool in the inaugural week of the DLF Football Championship. Of the 344 people who participated in the contest, 201 of them at least doubled their money! Those are pretty great odds.

The top three contestants from week one were;

1. coin22 – 175.68 pts – $700
2. goirish374 – 175.54 pts – $575
3. evorzan – 173.82 pts – $350

If you missed out on the week one action, no problem! The prize pool for week two remains the same.

The top three finalists from each week will make it into the free, final round of the championship.  A total of 30 participants will compete for $20,000 in cash prizes in just that week alone, and every finalist will win something!

This week’s overall winner was none other than DLF writer Carla Gruse, known to many as CoinFlip. While this was Carla’s first time ever playing daily fantasy football, her many years of fantasy football and dynasty experience clearly helped her to achieve success, even in this new format.

Carla shared a few thoughts about her strategy and experience.

Basically my goal for week one was to own three key players and build around them. I have always loved Julio Jones and my thought for week one of the NFL was usually defenses struggle to stop high end stud wide receivers. Defenses later in the season make adjustments and sometimes lower weekly outcomes. His price would offset when I decided to take Tyler Eifert because of Eifert’s low salary. I was hoping I was getting 2 high end players for a decent average price.

I almost always look for a deal at QB. I remember how well Carson Palmer played in Bruce Arians system before getting injured last year and I felt he was a safe bet and best option in his salary range.

Those were the three I would build around. Julio Jones (highly priced) Tyler Eifert (low) and Palmer (low)

I think kickers are an easy spot to take the lowest possible salary. I felt strongly the Jets D could outperform their salary both because of their opponent (cle) and because of their talent.

When it came to everyone else I looked for players I could afford with my remaining salary and hoped an prayed they could get me 15 pts each. I wasnt sure that would be an accurate goal but it was my thought process.

Given this strategy honestly I knew I would need a perfect storm. I really do feel there is luck involved when it comes to daily fantasy sports. I like to call it the “injury luck” – If any of my players would’ve sustained an early injury I knew I would be toast. There were many other rosters out there full of talent and genius picks, but I was lucky enough to have my crew play without injury.

Carla’s experience just goes to show, you do not have to be an expert in daily fantasy to succeed.  If you are an experienced, capable fantasy football player, you have all the tools you need to jump right in and have a real shot in the DLF Football Championship.

Congrats to the week one winners, and good luck to everyone in week two!
