The Dynasty Aftermath: Week Sixteen

Welcome to DLF’s Dynasty Aftermath. This Tuesday staple is our longest running signature piece as we have a little fun after a tough week at the Dynasty League Football office. You’ll find this article will review the week’s happenings in a variety of ways and help set you up for the coming weeks as we spin around the league in the way we know best. Championship week featured some well-timed, explosive performances and a few really serious and troublesome duds as well. In short, we have a lot to talk about once again

Let’s take a look back at the championship week that was!

Week Sixteen Fantasy MVP

Those who rode Russell Wilson and waited until Sunday night to view their championship fate were rewarded with an incredible performance in the desert. Wilson imposed his will on the Cardinals as he threw for a season-high 339 yards, rushed for another 88 and accounted for three total touchdowns. Wilson has proven to be a top-flight QB1 this season and one just has to wonder what kind of numbers he’d put up if the Seahawks really did have a dominant WR1. The amazing thing to me about Wilson is despite the fact he runs for so many yards, he simply avoids taking many big hits – it’s truly what separates him from other “running” quarterbacks.

Week Sixteen Fantasy LVP

Those who rode AJ Green and waited until Monday night to view their championship fate were rewarded with a goose egg in Ohio. In an unfortunate turn of events, Green was injured early in the game and while he still attempted to gut it out, he simply wasn’t much more than a decoy as he finished with no catches. It was an absolutely brutal performance for fantasy owners, especially those who spent a high first round pick on him just to have him for this week.

Lineup Fun

The unbeatable lineup of the week…

QB Russell Wilson SEA = 339 passing yards, 88 rushing yards, three total touchdowns
RB CJ Anderson DEN = 83 rushing yards, eight catches 55 receiving yards, one touchdown
RB Lamar Miller MIA = 92 rushing yards, five catches, 58 receiving yards, one touchdown
RB Marshawn Lynch SEA = 113 rushing yards, two touchdowns (one Beast Mode)
WR Odell Beckham Jr. NYG = Eight catches, 148 receiving yards, two touchdowns
WR Jordy Nelson GB = Nine catches, 113 receiving yards, one touchdown
WR Emmanuel Sanders DEN = Six catches, 70 receiving yards, two touchdowns
TE Antonio Gates SD = Seven catches, 92 receiving yards, two touchdowns

The dominant underdog lineup of the week…

QB Ryan Tannehill MIA 396 passing yards, four touchdowns, one interception
RB Matt Asiata MIN =
58 rushing yards, three catches, 19 receiving yards, two touchdowns
RB Frank Gore SF = 158 rushing yards, one touchdown
RB Leon Washington TEN =
11 rushing yards, seven catches, 62 receiving yards, one touchdown
WR Eddie Royal SD =
Ten catches, 94 receiving yards, one touchdown

Six catches, 132 receiving yards, one touchdown
WR Riley Cooper PHI =
Five catches, 53 receiving yards, two touchdowns
TE Luke Willson SEA =
Three catches, 139 receiving yards, two touchdowns

The unexpectedly horrible lineup of the week (and this is both amazing and unfortunate for a title week)

QB Andrew Luck IND = 109 passing yards, no rushing yards, two interceptions
RB Kerwynn Williams ARI = Four rushing yards
RB Doug Martin TB = 17 rushing yards
RB Steven Jackson ATL = Nine rushing yards, one catch, 14 receiving yards

WR Michael Crabtree SF = One catch, five receiving yards
WR Michael Floyd ARI = Two catches, 41 receiving yards
TE Vernon Davis SF = No catches (one long touchdown called back, just for good measure)

Gut Checks

I’d be worried if I owned Ben Tate. This might just be over.

I’d be worried if I owned Jay Cutler. Seems pretty obvious.

I’d be worried if I bought into James White. I still like him, but we should have seen something this season.

I’d be worried if I didn’t at least explore doing everything I could to get Odell Beckham Jr.

I’d be worried if I thought I already owned the Eagles starting quarterback for next season. Nobody really knows.

I’d be worried if didn’t do everything I could to get some kind of value from Matt Asiata.

I’d be worried if I was ignoring the fact Greg Jennings has actually been reliable for over a month.

I’d be worried if I owned any Denver running back outside of CJ Anderson.

I’d be worried if I had Drew Brees. Is this the beginning of a regression?

I’d be worried if I held any performance this week against AJ Green, Aaron Rodgers, Andrew Luck or any other stars who had off days.

I’d be worried if I owned DeMarco Murray. What’s total touch number going to be?

I’d be worried if I owned Mike Wallace. Two great games in a row, but he just doesn’t fit that team.

I’d be worried if owned Reggie Wayne. Sunday may be it.

I’d be worried if I hadn’t already kicked the tires on Justin Blackmon.

I’d be worried if I was relying on Julius Thomas. He’s just not right.

I’d be worried if I had given up on Zach Ertz.

I’d be worried if wasn’t still skeptical on Terrance Williams.

Ditto on Rueben Randle.

I’d be worried if I wasn’t at least a little excited to see Logan Thomas get a chance.

I’d be worried if I wasn’t totally panicking about the year from Cordarrelle Patterson.

Yep. Same on Doug Martin.

I’d be worried if I didn’t have Jeremy Hill. Seriously, which Bengal runner would you really want in a dynasty league?

I’d be worried if I owned any 49ers skill player. An overhaul is needed (and coming).  Hopefully that helps out the likes of Michael Crabtree and Vernon Davis.

A Look Ahead to Hot Names on the Week Seventeen Waiver Wire

Remember, we focus on the lesser names here who we haven’t mentioned much this season (we proactively featured Albert Wilson last week in a special article, so you won’t find him here). Remember, we focus on prospects and not veterans who have a one week window to play or the mainstream players you’d find featured on other sites.

1. Fitzgerald Touissant, RB BAL

This is more of an indictment on Bernard Pierce, but Touissant is working his way up the depth chart. He could make a decent back of the roster stash if you have very few prospects and a deep bench.

2. Dontrelle Inman, WR SD

San Diego has talked him up quite a bit in recent weeks and he finally produced after being activated this week. The San Diego receiving corps is a bit unsettled and Inman should have a chance to shine again this week. You could do worse.

Previous suggestions: Justin Forsett, Lorenzo Taliaferro, Bobby Rainey, Anthony Dixon, Case Keenum, Alfred Blue, Knile Davis, Donald Brown, Khiry Robinson, Kirk Cousins, Jarvis Landry, Aaron Dobson, Niles Paul, Damien Williams, Austin Davis, Zach Mettenberger, Joe Banyard, Silas Redd, DeAndre Levy, Mike Glennon, Joe McKnight, Philly Brown, Rhett Ellison, Jerick McKinnon, Darrin Reaves, Branden Oliver, Jarius Wright, Louis Murphy, Kyle Orton, Juwan Thompson, Tim Wright, George Winn, Robert Herron, Adam Thielen, James White, Chris Hogan, Preston Parker, Jonas Gray, Colt McCoy, Bryce Brown, Marion Grice, Ryan Mallett, Charles Sims, Brandon Weeden, Kamar Aiken, Michael Vick, Dan “Boom” Herron, Mark Sanchez, Chase Ford, Matt Simms, Ryan Williams, Logan Thomas, Drew Stanton, Josh McCown, Kapri Bibbs, Marcedes Lewis, Antonio Andrews, Duron Carter, Charles Johnson, Glenn Winston, Tom Savage, Zurlon Tipton, Jeremy Stewart, Michael Bush, Kerwynn Williams, Joseph Randle, Alfonso Smith.
