One Scary Season

At DLF, we love to hear many opinions and viewpoints. After all, a site with a “group think mentality” or one not accountable for the information they publish can’t really be trusted. With that said, this special Halloween article is intended to give you a bunch of different opinions about this crazy fantasy football season, but also to give you an opportunity to share your own thoughts. We love the interaction we have with our followers with articles like these, so your thoughts are encouraged. In this spirit of Halloween, I asked the crew of DLF to answer one question:

“What is the scariest part of this fantasy football season?”

As you can imagine, we had a wide variety of different responses. This season has been one of the most unpredictable in years and that alone makes it scary for dynasty owners.  Here were the responses I received:

“The scariest part of this season has to be the performance (or lack thereof) of the top players. Looking back at August ADP, only half of the top 12 players drafted are among the top 12 at their position, thanks to injuries and subpar performances. That doesn’t even include some of the bigger disappointments like Doug Martin, Montee Ball and Cordarrelle Patterson.” – Ryan McDowell

[inlinead]“The scariest part of this fantasy football season is the disappointing play of many young RB’s who were looked at as foundational pieces of dynasty rosters. Next year’s crop of rookie RB’s might change the landscape going
forward, but for now, WR’s and TE’s are determining who collects the championships in most dynasty leagues.” – Eric Dickens

“The scariest part of this football season has been losing so many elite players. Calvin Johnson and AJ Green missing time with injuries. Victor Cruz gone for the year. Josh Gordon suspended. Adrian Peterson and Ray Rice suspended. Jordan Cameron injured. It’s like being on the Titanic and scooping out water with a bucket. ” – The Dynasty Doctor, Scott Peak

“It is scary how many dynasty leagues still utilize team defenses and kickers. While teams like Buffalo (third in D/ST scoring), Miami (fourth) and Detroit (sixth) are doing well, Cincinnati (25th) and Seattle (29th) emphasize the lack of predictability at the “position” and reinforce that defenses should not be rostered in the off-season. The fact there are dynasty leagues still using kickers is downright frightening.” – Jaron Foster

“The scariest part of this fantasy season has been the unknowns at the running back position. Coaching staffs like the Rams, Titans and ,of course, the Patriots have been tormenting fantasy owners by randomly drawing players names out of hat to see who will get the carries on a given week.  Injuries to backfields like the Bills and Chargers or complete dumpster fires like the Falcons and Buccaneers leave owners searching for the “optimal” play each week.  Don’t just walk away, run!” – Luke Wetta

“The scariest part of this season is how well the rookie receivers have performed. It is spooking me out. Sammy Watkins and Kelvin Benjamin lead the way; sitting at PPR WR12 and WR13 respectively and numerous rookies have had multiple-touchdown games. Will this affect the value of rookie picks? Is it easier for rookie receivers to have an impact in today’s pass-happy NFL? Or is this class just as terrifyingly good as we thought it might be? If this continues, then RIP defensive backs.” – James Simpson

“It’s scary that Malcom Floyd is outscoring Michael Floyd, but Michael is rated as a top dynasty asset and a weekly starter.” – Tim Stafford

“The scariest part of this season is how quickly both NFL and fantasy teams are to anoint someone the next stud or to completely toss them aside. We’ve been spoiled by players like Andrew Luck and forget he is the exception not the rule. Most young players will be inconsistent with moments of greatness and moments of failure – that doesn’t make them future studs one week and busts the next. It just makes them young players. Give them some time before we jump to conclusions!” – Jacob Feldman

And I have a few thoughts of my own…

“The scariest part of this season has to be the number of carries DeMarco Murray is piling up. I love his determination, productivity and overall studliness, but I’m concerned about how much this season is going to take out of him in the long term.” – Ken Kelly

…but this is the scariest:
