Editor’s Note: This article is part of our new Daily Content section in DLF. Daily leagues are growing in the fantasy community and we’ll cover them throughout the regular season. Remember, you can get a DLF Premium account free for a year (or your current subscription extended for a year) just by signing up with FanDuel and making an initial deposit. As the season moves on, some of us lose the best part of our fantasy football season: the draft. Well, thanks to daily fantasy football leagues, we are able to draft a team every week and test ourselves against thousands of other players. The drafts take minutes, the lineups are easy and the prizes can be huge. Here at DLF, we will share with you some of the best free tournaments that have amazing prizes to the winner.

For those of you looking for advice on daily leagues, including those highlighted here, I urge you to check out the weekly series “Daily League Bargains” on DLF. It is a great resource for those of you looking for some sneaky additions to your daily lineups.

I will also choose one each week to participate in and share my experiences and urge each of you to do the same. Also, share any freeroll contests we may have missed!

Let’s start this week with a little reflection on the FanDuel freeroll I participated in. Here was my team from a week ago.

freeroll2Just looking at the overall lineup, you can guess that things did not go so well for me. I finished out of the money and in the bottom third in the standings (ouch!). Here are a few takeaways I had from week one and my strategy:

  • Bet small on quarterback, but not that small – Shaun Hill was awful in the time he played then managed to injure himself in the first half.
  • Find opportunities at tight end – Zach Ertz was one of the few bright spots on the team at a bargain price. Hitching to a high powered passing offense and an athletic tight end is a good combination.
  • Look for shootout games and don’t be afraid to double up – I tried to diversify my offering here with very little overlap in games. In retrospect, loading up on the Atlanta/New Orleans game would have been wise.

Now, on to the freerolls for this week and a preview of my team that I will be “rolling” with in week two.

FanDuel.com

This week, Fan Duel does not have any available freerolls but there are always free games that allow you to keep your skills sharp and be active on player pricing and strategy.

Victiv.com – $1,000 NFL Freerolls

There are three freeroll contests on Victiv this week that are $1,000 payouts and limited to the first four hundred entrants. They each pay out the top 100 finishers so there is a 25% opportunity to win some money. The scoring is pretty standard, but the payouts are not so game on!

Drafster.com – $1,000 NFL Freeroll

This is limited to the first 5,000 entries but it is free to participate in and there are additional prizes for the top 133 players. The scoring is non-PPR and relatively standard so no need to overcomplicate your strategy here. This will be the entry that I do for week two.

My lineup was focused on finding players with good value but had big touchdown upside. Much like last week, I went pretty wide receiver heavy but saw running back opportunities with Knowshon Moreno priced really low and Adrian Peterson about a $1,000 less than the very top runners. Carson Palmer seemed like a fair price against a suspect New York Giants defense while the New Orleans defense will be facing a depleted Cleveland Browns lineup. Stay tuned for next week’s rendition to see if I did any better than week 1.freeroll3

Draftkings.com – $10 NFL Freeroll

A benefit to playing on Draftkings is their popularity so you can find a lot of advice out there on pricing and players. This week, the freerolls are limited to a smaller prize payout but that doesn’t mean you can’t play for something else. FUN!

FantasyAces.com – $50 NFL Freeroll

Limited to the first 1,000 entries, FantasyAces is known to spring contests up spontaneously so be on the lookout for additional freerolls. There are prizes for the top 20 players but there are some interesting rules in this contest. Make sure to read the details carefully as this may be a case of the diligent reaping the rewards.

Draftday.com – $2,500 NFL Perfect Lineup Freeroll & $1,000 NFL Bracket Freeroll

[inlinead]Draftday has a pair of freerolls this week including a “Perfect Lineup” freeroll that awards $50 to each of the top 50 lineups weekly and has a grand prize of $1,000,000. It is essentially open to as many people as possible and does boast a PPR scoring method. There is also an NFL Bracket freeroll that utilizes a bracket system to determine a winner. The top 256 players are paid out with a limit of 8,192 entries. I tend to be a fan of quirky contests so this should be fun to those who feel the same way.

Sportstradex.com – Variety

Sportstradex has a bevy of both pick ‘em and draft-based pools including a few smaller “winner take all” freerolls. Their freerolls tend to be smaller in size (around 200) and the prize is limited to first place, but as Ricky Bobby says, “If you’re not first, you’re last”.

Statclash.com – $25 NFL Freeroll

Statclash has options for both draft-based and pick ‘em freerolls which tend to be posted late. As of Thursday, they have a pair of freerolls, one is a pick ‘em and one is a draft-based contest. They are smaller in size, between 100 and 250, which makes the probability of winning a little higher.

Fantasyscore.com

There are no freerolls on fantasyscore.com this week but they have been offering promotions on their fantasy page if you are the attentive type. There are a good variety of games here and I would expect USA Today to continue to innovate, so don’t be surprised to find new things here frequently.

Scorestreak.com – Win a free Tesla

Unlike most freeroll games, this one is ongoing throughout the season and requires you to have a perfect score for multiple weeks in a row based on predetermined scoring. It is a challenging format that makes you think about which players will hit key stats.

Next week, we will highlight some of the freerolls for week three of the season and I will provide a recap of my performance as well!
