The 2013 fantasy football season is nearing an end. As you march towards the playoffs, it’s more important than ever to stay on top of the news. You have to pay close attention to everything to stay on top of your dynasty league. For most of us, we do well to steal some time away from our families and jobs to watch the games on Sunday. It becomes difficult to monitor the daily happenings around the league and even more demanding to process how that news affects your dynasty team.
That’s why we’re here! Each week there are many news items that are important and helpful in the day-to-day managing of your fantasy team, yet have little affect on the dynasty value of players. Because of this, I will not be mentioning those here.
Here is a quick look at the events of the past week and how they impact the players on your team.

Geno Smith, QB NYJ

Less than a full season into his NFL career, local beat writers are already speculating that the New York Jets could look to replace rookie quarterback Geno Smith following the season. The incoming rookie quarterback class is a strong one and the new rookie salary cap allows teams to move on from early draft picks sooner than they used to. It would still be a surprise for a team to give up on a high draft pick so soon, but confidence in Smith is obviously lacking. As a result, his dynasty value has taken a big hit.

Ladarius Green, TE SD

Chargers backup tight end Ladarius Green enjoyed another solid game last week as he caught three passes for eighty yards and a touchdown. His day was highlighted by a sixty yard score. In a reserve role, Green now has seven catches for over 160 yards and a score in the past two weeks and his value is quickly on the rise. Green will be considered a TE1 heading into startup draft season this off-season.

Josh Gordon, WR CLE

Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon exploded for career highs and franchise records of fourteen catches and 237 receiving yards in last week’s matchup against the Steelers. Since his return from a two game suspension, Gordon has been among the best and most consistent wide receivers in football and at only twenty-two years old, Gordon can be considered among the most valuable players in the game. Expect the first round of startup drafts to be dominated by the top six wideouts in football, including Gordon.

Justin Hunter, WR TEN

Titans’ rookie wide receiver Justin Hunter had a break out game in week twelve, catching six passes for 109 yards and a score. Hunter is better suited to play the role of top wideout for Tennessee while Kendall Wright serves as a complimentary possession receiver. With Kenny Britt obviously on his way out of town and the Titans expected to upgrade the quarterback position, Hunter’s value will be on the rise this off-season.

Nick Foles, QB PHI

Eagles head coach Chip Kelly announced that quarterback Nick Foles would remain the team’s starting quarterback for the remainder of the season, despite the status of former starter Michael Vick. It is safe to assume that Vick will not be with the team next season, so Foles is auditioning for the starting job in 2014. As can be expected, Foles’ dynasty value is on the rise, while Vick’s is nearly depleted, though there’s a reasonable chance that Vick lands a starting job in 2014.

Darren McFadden, RB OAK

Though running back Darren McFadden returned for the team’s Thanksgiving Day battle with the Dallas Cowboys, he served as a reserve for starter Rashad Jennings, who has been one of the hottest runners in the game over the past month. McFadden will be a free agent following the season and it is assumed that he will not be back with the team. McFadden will be a good buy low in dynasty leagues before he signs with a new team. Jennings on the other hand, is likely just a stop gap, as the team will be looking for a long-term answer at both running back and quarterback heading into 2014.

Da’Rick Rogers, WR IND

Colts head coach Chuck Pagano announced earlier this week that rookie wide receiver Da’Rick Rogers would be active this weekend, which will be his first NFL game. With the Colts wide receiving corps struggling and banged up, Rogers may get a chance at some significant playing time as well. Rogers entered the league with a troubled history and couldn’t stick with the Buffalo Bills, who signed him following the NFL draft. Rogers then landed with the Colts, but has yet to be active on game day. If Rogers is still available on your waiver wire, now is the time to acquire him.
