The Dynasty Aftermath: Week Ten

Welcome to DLF’s Dynasty Aftermath. This Tuesday staple is our longest running signature piece as we have a little fun after a tough week at the Dynasty League Football office. You’ll find this article will review the week’s happenings in a variety of ways and help set you up for the coming weeks as we spin around the league in the way we know best.

Let’s take a look back at the week that was!

Week Ten Fantasy MVP

For the second straight week, the best fantasy performer was potentially on your bench. After all, it would have taken a really awful bye week or bit of clairvoyance for you to have inserted Tavon Austin into your lineup. Amazingly, Austin turned just 15 offensive snaps into one rush for four yards, two catches 138 yards and two touchdowns and also returned a punt 98 yards for one of the best highlights you’ll ever see. Dynasty owners have undoubtedly been disappointed by the Rams and their use of Austin so far this season, but we finally got a glimpse of the playmaker he can be. While this will likely be his best game of the season, St. Louis has to be considering some different ways to get him involved. It’s about time.

Week Ten Fantasy LVP

What has happened to Colin Kaepernick?  Take out his dominant opening game performance and he’s posted six touchdowns through the air, three on the ground and accounted for ten turnovers since. Yep, that’s right. Nine total touchdowns and ten turnovers over his last eight contests. This week was awful as he recorded just 91 passing yards and an interception, while rushing for just 16 yards. Sure, he played a tough opponent, but it’s getting alarming as he’s averaging just 158 passing yards per game over those eight contests. If you have other options, it’s past time to use them and you just have to cross your fingers and hope he’s going throw some serious growing pains.

Lineup Fun

The unbeatable lineup of the week…

Gut Checks

I normally post a bunch of bulleted points here saying, “I’d be worried if,” but I’m going to shake things up and change it this week to say, “Remember when?” After all, this is what makes dynasty leagues rule. Assumptions are made at the beginning of every season and many of them simply don’t hold true. In a re-draft league, you just throw away the season and attribute it to bad luck. In a dynasty league, you’re forced to be strategic and rebuild from the ground up. With that in mind, here are some things that look much more clear than they did at the beginning of this season (or even the last few).

Remember when CJ Spiller was a chic top three dynasty pick this year?

Remember when Trent Richardson was the most popular pick at 1.01 in a new dynasty league?

Remember when Arian Foster and Ray Rice looked like building blocks even going into this year?

Remember when Jake Locker wasn’t hurt all the time?

Remember when Chris Johnson looked like he wasn’t running in molasses?

Remember when Matt Stafford was labeled as injury prone?

Remember when Matt Schaub was a viable QB2?

Remember when many thought there were just too many mouths to feed in New Orleans or Denver?

Remember when Michael Vick had dynasty value?

Remember when Miles Austin was a better fantasy play than Dez Bryant?

Remember when Reggie Bush was an afterthought?

Remember when Matt Ryan had players to throw to?

Remember when Stevan Ridley was almost on the drop list?

Remember when DeSean Jackson was such a one trick pony that you couldn’t give him away?

Remember when Hakeem Nicks looked like the second coming?

Remember when Kenbrell Thompkins looked like the steal of this year’s rookie draft?

Remember when the Rams’ backfield was a jumbled mess?

Remember when TY Hilton was just a secondary option?

Remember when Doug Martin was the clear 1.02 if you lost out on Trent Richardson?

Remember when Paul Worrilow didn’t have 38 tackles in his last two games?

Remember when Keenan Allen was a late first round pick by default because the “good” rookies were gone?

Remember when Fred Davis was the tight end to own in Washington?

Remember when you were frightened to see MJD going against you?

Remember when Jamaal Charles was just a committee back?

Remember when Greg Jennings was startable?

Remember when Kenny Britt looked like the next Calvin Johnson?

Remember when Latavius Murray was a “must have” if Darren McFadden was to go down?

Remember when Josh Freeman was a coveted dynasty asset?

Remember when Steven Jackson was a dependable workhorse?

Remember when the Redskins said they wanted to get Alfred Morris involved in the passing game? He has three more catches than you do this year.

Remember when Ronnie Hillman was a “must have” in the middle rounds of a dynasty draft?

Remember when Knowshon Moreno was called “no show?”

Remember when Larry Fitzgerald was scary?

Remember when Marshawn Lynch was the third string back in Buffalo?

Remember when Danny Amendola was supposed to set the world on fire this season?

Remember when Joe Flacco was a borderline starter in fantasy?

Remember when Eli Manning didn’t destroy your own fantasy team?

Remember when Greg Little was supposed to be a stud?

Remember when Antonio Gates was supposed to be washed up?

Remember when Demaryius Thomas’ career was possibly going to end because of his injury?

Remember when Ryan Mathews was a legitimate top five dynasty pick?

Remember when there was a debate between Andre Ellington and Stepfan Taylor?

Remember when David Wilson was a chic pick for this year’s fantasy MVP?

Remember when Riley Cooper was better known for his mouth than his football ability?

Look, some of those are still up for debate, but the point is things change very quickly in a dynasty league. The second you feel comfortable, you’re going to have the rug pulled out from under you. It’s this very reason why we do what we do. We love this game, love the relationships we’ve formed on the site and look forward to keeping this train steaming ahead. Our hope is you “remember when” you hadn’t found us and have much more success now than you did before.
