Waiver Wire Advice: Week Ten

Ken Kelly

We’ll be covering some of the hot names on the majority of dynasty league waiver wires each week for our premium content members.  These players will likely be owned in a minority of dynasty leagues. We won’t waste your time with bigger names who are likely owned in your league like Marvin Jones, or the likely one week wonders like Dallas Clark or Vonta Leach because you guys are just too good for that.  We’re simply going to cover some players who could be targets this week if you have an open roster spot and are willing to throw a dart with the hope of getting lucky.

Mainstream waiver wire articles will be posted all over the Internet this week begging people to pick up obvious players, but our job is to give you information to make informed and educated decisions and stay ahead of the curve, not on it.

Just remember one other very important thing – you’re in a dynasty league, not a re-draft league. Don’t get too enamored by the one hit wonders and drop your young projects in a quest to find lightning in a bottle. Savvy dynasty league owners will tell you the best players on the wire each and every year end up being the ones dropped by impatient owners, not the ones who suddenly break out. We won’t repeat many names here, so check out the list from prior weeks as we move along.

With that being said, here are this week’s picks in order of priority (and it’s getting REALLY skinny out there, people):

1.) Marquise Goodwin, WR BUF

Goodwin is starting to make some noise on the Bills depth chart and had himself a nice day Sunday with two catches for 64 yards and a score. This follows up his three catch, 56-yard performance the week prior. If he’s available, he’s nice stash on a deep roster.

2.) Nate Burleson, WR DET

He’s recovered well from his injury earlier this year and could return to action as early as this week. Fact is, nobody on the Lions really took advantage of the situation left when he was hurt, so Burleson makes for a good add, especially if you’re a contending team.

3.) Dennis Johnson, RB HOU

When the Texans signed Deji Karim, Ray Graham and Johnson last week, it was anyone’s guess who would be third on the depth chart. Turns out it was Johnson, who was active and showed a little bit of ability this week for the Texans. With Arian Foster banged up (again), he’s worth stashing in the short term.

4.) Zach Miller, TE SEA

Miller is a forgotten man in a lot of leagues, but he’s starting to get used a little more. If the Seahawks continue to struggle on offense, Miller’s role as a nice middle of the field option and goal line threat could continue.  You could do worse for a bye week fill-in.

5.) Seneca Wallace, QB GB

I’m putting him here last because we don’t yet know the severity of the injury to Aaron Rodgers. If it’s something that’s going to keep him out for a month, Wallace can be moved up this list. The problem here is Wallace just isn’t a viable fantasy option. He seems to have regressed since his days in Seattle. You’d have to be truly desperate to have him in your lineup at this point and the best course of action may be to just let someone else burn a spot on him.
