The Dynasty Aftermath: Week Four

Welcome to DLF’s Dynasty Aftermath. This Tuesday staple is our longest running signature piece as we have a little fun after a tough week at the Dynasty League Football office. You’ll find this article will review the week’s happenings in a variety of ways and help set you up for the coming weeks as we spin around the league in the way we know best.

Let’s take a look back at the week that was!

Week Four Fantasy MVP

There were a few players who had bigger weeks, but Tony Gonzalez reminded us again that he is one amazing athlete. Gonzo torched the Patriots for 12 catches, 149 yards and two touchdowns. Enjoy it while you can because you’re enjoying the last few games of the best tight end who has ever played.

Week Two Fantasy LVP

An apparently healthy Ray Rice was inserted back into the starting lineup for the Ravens this week and played the entire game without much trouble from his ailing hip. So, what’s the problem? Well, Rice gained just 17 yards on five carries. Yep. 17. On five. Meanwhile the Ravens decided to have Joe Flacco throw the ball 50 times in a loss to the Bills. It was an incredibly frustrating day for Rice owners as he was curiously not part of the game plan. On the plus side, Rice did come out of the game healthy and you can bet he’ll be begging for more work moving forward.

Lineup Fun

The unbeatable lineup of the week…

QB Drew Brees NO = 413 passing yards, four touchdowns
RB Darren Sproles NO = 28 rushing yards, seven catches, 114 yards, two touchdowns
RB Arian Foster HOU = 102 rushing yards, six catches, 69 receiving yards, one touchdown
RB Reggie Bush DET = 139 rushing yards, four catches, 34 receiving yards, one touchdown
WR Victor Cruz NYG = Ten catches, 164 receiving yards, one touchdown
WR Demaryius Thomas DEN = Nine catches, 86 receiving yards, two touchdowns
WR Alshon Jeffery CHI = Five catches, 107 receiving yards, 27 rushing yards, one touchdown
TE Tony Gonzalez ATL = 12 catches, 149 receiving yards, two touchdowns

The dominant underdog lineup of the week…

QB Brian Hoyer CLE = 269 passing yards, two touchdowns
RB Danny Woodhead SD = 32 rushing yards, five catches, 54 receiving yards, two touchdowns
RB Rashad Jennings OAK = 45 rushing yards, eight catches, 71 receiving yards
RB Roy Helu WAS = 41 rushing yards, two catches, 43 receiving yards, one touchdown
WR Nate Washington TEN = Four catches, 105 receiving yards, two touchdowns
WR Kenbrell Thompkins NE = Six catches, 127 receiving yards, one touchdown
WR Greg Jennings MIN = Three catches, 92 receiving yards, two touchdowns
TE Sean McGrath KC = Five catches, 64 receiving yards, one touchdown

The unexpectedly horrible lineup of the week…

QB Andy Dalton CIN = 206 passing yards, one interception
RB Ray Rice BAL = 17 rushing yards
RB Darren McFadden OAK = 29 rushing yards and one injury
RB Maurice Jones-Drew JAX = 23 rushing yards, one catch, five receiving yards
WR Stevie Johnson BUF = One catch, -1 receiving yards

TE Kyle Rudolph MIN = Two catches, six receiving yards

Gut Checks

I’d be worried if I didn’t still consider Victor Cruz one of the most valuable players in dynasty leagues, despite the troubles of the Giants.

I’d be worried if I didn’t think Philip Rivers couldn’t continue to flourish under Mike McCoy.

I’d be worried if I owned Jake Locker.  Just when it looked like he was turning a corner…

I’d be worried if I thought this was going to become the norm for Greg Jennings.

I’d be worried if I had left Arian Foster for dead.

Ditto for Antonio Gates.

I’d be worried if I’m playing any team with Peyton Manning or Jimmy Graham.

I’d be worried if I owned Hakeem Nicks or Mike Wallace. This isn’t looking good.

I’d be worried if I haven’t tried to buy Andre Ellington on the cheap.

I’d be worried if I need anything from any Bronco running back not named Knowshon Moreno.

I’d be worried if I owned CJ Spiller.  This is looking a lot like past years with Fred Jackson being like fantasy poison.

I’d be worried if I was counting on Maurice Jones-Drew. The Jags are bad, but MJD doesn’t look like the same player at the quarter pole, either.

I’d be worried if I owned Darren McFadden. Doesn’t it just seem like a broken record?

I’d be worried if I expected Mike Glennon to just walk on the field and be good.

I’d be worried if I didn’t think Brian Hoyer could at least be a bye-week fill-in.
