I will probably end up missing the boat on Morgan because I need to see more before I think he’s even worth a roster spot. He’s replacing Devery Henderson so it’s not like there are a lot of targets up for grabs (47 last year) and is potentially the 5th option.

New Orleans is high powered so it can support a lot of fantasy players but even Randall Cobb going into last year was the third or fourth option with Jennings being out at the beginning. His 100 targets and Driver’s 50 or so were up for grabs so there was a window of opportunity. I just don’t think 50 targets is a big enough window.

And even if Morgan runs a 4.3 or 4.4 40 yd dash, Henderson ran it in 4.36 so it’s not really a new facet he’s adding and when was Henderson ever a reliable fantasy producer?

While I agree with the base of your statement. If he lives up to the hype, he could easily move up to the #1 weapon on that team. I don’t think you can take Henderson’s production and move it to Morgan because that is completely illogical.

I think picking up anyone that has the penitential to be a #2 or #3 weapon on a team is well worth it in the thinnest of dynasty leagues. He has shown ability and this off-season he is showing the work ethic. I think it is just a matter of time.

I think he has more potential to run the full route tree..

His speed is his bread and butter, but you would never see Henderson working on his intermediates like Morgan has vowed to do this offseason.

Even if Morgan catches only 40 balls, he can do some much with them that he could end up being a decent WR3 in 2013.

I just think he’s the next guy in line when Colston goes down…more of a gut feeling than anything else

Nice read…although Tebow is the one who made Decker irrelevant, but the point still stands that Decker was relevant with Orton throwing him the ball and Demaryius stayed relevant with Tebow chucking and ducking…

I was one of those who was really excited about Vincent Brown going into last season. He sure passes the eye test in the games that I saw him. He attacks the ball, catches with his hands and just seems to have a good feel for the game.

I also like DX, but with his history of gravel knees, I wouldn’t be on him leading the Bolts in targets this season.

The only drawback for Brown is the fall of Rivers. He seems to have lost his velocity. Maybe that funky throwing motion has killed his arm. Regardless, if you can get Brown at a reasonable price, the payout could be nice.

I agree Rivers just is not same QB his ball loops into targets not a lot of zip on it at all…can only expect middle of road production from him going forward I think

Articles like this are awesome! They are perfect for all us dynasty players looking for sleepers. Thanks. BTW all three of these are already on teams in my dynasty league.

    • Ken Kelly says:

I would think they’d be rostered in most dynasty leagues with decent roster limits. The point of the article wasn’t necessarily to run to the waiver wire to nab these guys (since they won’t likely be there), but they could be players others consider as “throw-ins” in terms of trades, or be had on the cheap.

Great article, Chad. I scored Baldwin for Andrew Hawkins and a third thanks to this article. I think Baldwin could have a nice year with Reid as his head coach, in that system. Look at Maclin and Djax. Maybe Baldwin flames out, but I’m willing to take a chance on his upside.

    • Eric Hardter says:

Yup, odds are you wouldn’t want to rely on Hawkins as a starter, given his minimal upside (potentially behind Green, Gresham, Sanu AND Jones in the pecking order next year). Like you said, Baldwin could bomb out, but he at least has the upside to be a stud.

I found this article to be a very interesting write up. Thanks!

In the section on Joseph Morgan, I’m curious what Nick Toon could do to effect his value? With no mention of him in the article I find it strange. Perhaps you intend to cover him with the 2nd year wr’s? Toon might have the talent to snatch up the WR 3 role in New Orleans.

    • Chad Scott says:

Thanks for reading and commenting, Crow.

I don’t think Toon will be much of a factor to be honest…he has chronic foot problems (that were addressed, surgically) and I think Morgan’s talent is too great for Payton to not work his magic with.

I’ll need to see a healthy Toon before I worry about him taking playing time away from Morgan…just my opinion tho.

      Thanks again for reading, Crow!
