Sunday Six Pack: Week Seven

Ken Kelly

We’re with you every Sunday to provide the Sunday Six Pack, an article featuring six of the biggest storylines heading into each and every week of the season. Keeping tabs on these events will keep you prepared and informed throughout the season – just don’t drive within six hours of reading this. With that in mind, let’s take a look at week six’s Sunday Six Pack:

Can #1) Adding the Green in Green Bay

With Cedric Benson out with a lisfranc injury, Alex Green took a stranglehold on the Packers running back job last week with a healthy 22 carries against a stout Texans team. While his yardage total was modest, he simply dominated the carries. The Rams will pose another tough challenge for Green, but a second straight game with a healthy workload would put him squarely into consideration as a RB3 or flex player from this point on.

Can #2) Skelton Crew

Just when Kevin Kolb started to show some signs of life, he went down with a shoulder and rib injury that should keep him out for six-to-eight weeks. John Skelton will again get the call even after he was downright terrible last week after replacing the injured Kolb by going 2-for-10 for 45 yards and a game ending interception.  The Cardinals have only a deep project in Ryan Lindley behind him, so he should have a long leash. However, if Skelton plays poorly, it’s going to hurt this entire offense. Again.

Can #3) Flash Gordon

Rumors had been swirling that Josh Gordon of the Browns was starting to establish himself as the team’s best receiver in practice over the past month and now that’s translated to the field. In the past two games, Gordon has five catches for 181 yards and three touchdowns. The Browns are downright desperate to find a play maker at receiver to complement Trent Richardson and Gordon is starting to reward dynasty owners who plucked him off the wire or took him a supplemental rookie draft this Summer. Let’s see what he has up his sleeve this week.

Can #4) Nerves of Steel

Owners who have held tight to Jonathan Dwyer get yet another chance to see him produce today as he’ll presumably start with Rashard Mendenhall and Isaac Redman both out with injuries. Dwyer has been underwhelming when given his chances before and today may very well be his last chance to make an impression on the Steelers in an effort to get an increased role in the offense. Let’s see how he does because his dynasty value hangs in the balance.

Can #5) Ram Tough

Daryl Richardson continues to impress in St. Louis as he’s starting to eat into Steven Jackson’s workload a bit. Some believe his use last week was simply part of the game plan, while others think he’s starting to make this a legitimate time share. Today will go a long way in proving who’s right and who’s wrong.

Can #6) Spiller Time

With Fred Jackson back in the fold, CJ Spiller is again finding himself in an even time share. This should really be the first week both have been 100% healthy since early in the season, so the split in carries will a huge story line in dynasty leagues. If this is truly back to a 50/50 split, Spiller can still do serious damage, but won’t be anywhere near the RB1 he could be with a lion’s share of the work. Let’s see how it goes today against the Titans.

Have a great Sunday!
