Week Ten Aftermath

You just never know when a magical performance will happen. You look at the matchups, projections, and previews every week in an attempt to put yourself in the best position to win. Every now and then, a single player can make the difference between winning and losing.

Enter Michael Vick.

Week Ten Fantasy MVP

You can spin it however you want, but Michael Vick was spectacular on Monday night. When you can produce 333 passing yards, 80 rushing yards, and SIX total touchdowns, you’re going to carry some teams.

What made it even more magical had to be the thousands of Vick owners who found themselves down by 40 points to come back and win on Monday.

While the performance was incredible, it wasn’t the best we’ve ever seen. Tristan Cockroft of ESPN put together a really nice piece opn historical achievements this week. You can view it here.

Week Nine Fantasy LVP

Jahvid Best was supposed to be over his turf toe injuries and tear up the worst rushing defense in the league. Instead, he carried the ball 17 times for 35 yards against the Bills.

At this point, Best owners have to HOPE he’s hurt.

Lineup Fun

You probably won if your lineup looked like this…

QB Michael Vick = 333 passing yards, four passing touchdowns, 80 rushing yards. two rushing touchdowns

…and pretty much anyone else.

You probably lost if your lineup looked like this…

QB Brett Favre = 170 passing yards, one touchdown, three interceptions
RB Cedric Benson = 24 rushing yards, 27 receiving yards, one fumble lost
RB Jahvid Best = 35 rushing yards, 4 receiving yards
RB Thomas Jones = 3 rushing yards, 19 receiving yards
WR Mike Sims-Walker = 3 catches, 26 receiving yards
WR Santana Moss = 3 catches, 28 receiving yards
WR Randy Moss = 1 catch, 26 receiving yards
TE Dustin Keller = 3 catches, 25 receiving yards

Gut Checks

I’d be worried if…

I’m still holding out hope for Roy Williams. Dez Bryant is quickly taking over in Dallas. He’s even pushing Miles Austin to be the No. 1 receiver.

I own Alex Smith in a dynasty league. While Troy Smith may not be the permanent answer for the 49ers, it’s becoming apparent that Alex isn’t, either.

I expect another huge game from Jahvid Best. His production has steadily declined since his fantastic week two. You have to think he’s hurt. If not, you’re in trouble.

I’m hoping for greatness from Randy Moss. Sunday showed us it’s going to be a rough transition.

I think Brandon Marshall is going to be a dominant force down the stretch. While Tyler Thigpen may very well be an upgrade over some of his predecessors, Marshall has been a huge disappointment thus far.

I need Steve Smith (CAR) to produce anything for me. Sadly, Matt Moore was probably his best bet for production. Tony Pike has to learn pretty quickly to give Smith value again.

I own Ryan Torain. His hamstring injury flared up at the wrong time. Look for the Redskins to see just what Keiland Williams and James Davis can do here in the short term.

I own Beanie Wells. You can only be patient for so long. Wells was supposed to be a force for the Cardinals, but he hasn’t shown more than a tendency to get nicked up and be inconsistent thus far.

I’m relying on Cedric Benson. This is a huge week for him. If he can’t add to his one 100 yard game or three total touchdowns this week against Buffalo, we have a huge problem.

I have Aaron Hernandez as a key player for me. The breakout of Rob Gronkowski doesn’t knock him down on the depth chart, but it will limit his opportunities a little.

6. Jacoby Ford, WR, OAK = BYE Week

7. Javarris James, RB, IND = 26 rushing yards, one touchdown

A Look Ahead to Hot Names on the Week Eleven Waiver Wire

1. Ben Obomanu, WR, SEA

He’s apparently pushed Deon Butler down the depth chart, so he could possibly push someone off your depth chart as well.

2. Roydell Williams, WR, WAS

This is for deep leagues only, but he’s passed Galloway in Washington and has been pretty consistent in practice.

3. Duke Calhoun, WR, NYG

The Giants are losing receivers right and left, but Calhoun is worth a flyer in an offense that has enough balls to make a lot of players valuable.
