College Quarterback Watch List Update

When we completed our college rankings earlier this month, we noted many players who were on the DLF watch list for 2010.

We considered these players to be the best skill position prospects going into the 2011 draft.

Since the college season is underway, we found it only fitting to do our first check in on the group.

Today, we’ll look at the quarterbacks.

Jake Locker, Washington
Finished 20 for 37 for 266 yards, and one touchdown pass. He also had

11 carries for 29 yards in a 23-17 loss to BYU.

He has to win games this season to be the No. 1 pick in the draft and he didn’t get it done in the opener.

Ryan Mallett, Arkansas
Finished 21 for 24 for 301 yards, with three touchdowns, and one interception in a 44-3 drubbing of Tennesee Tech.

Tough to put too much stock in that one.

Terrelle Pryor, Ohio State
Finished 17 for 25 for 247 yards, and three touchdowns in a 45-7 blowout of Marshall.

He’s picked up right where he left off.

Andy Dalton, TCU
Not a great game against Oregon State with only 175 passing yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.

John Brantley, Florida
The numbers aren’t going to reflect it, but Brantley looked nervous and the offense looked sluggish. He finished 17 of 25 for 113 yards, and two touchdowns in a 34-12 win against Miami (OH).

The Gators are lucky they didn’t start with Miami (FL).

Andrew Luck, Stanford
The knock on Luck has always been his inability to put up big numbers. Well, he finished with 316 yards, and four touchdowns against Sacramento State in a 52-17 whipping.

That should do for now.

Jerrod Johnson, Texas A&M
Finished 23 of 35 for 278 yards, and two touchdowns in a 48-7 win against Stephen F. Austin.

Solid performance for Johnson, as it should have been.

Nick Foles, Arizona
It was an incredibly efficient day for Foles in a 41-2 beatdown of Toledo. He finished 32 of 37, for 360 yards, tw0 touchdowns, and one interception.

Christian Ponder, Florida State
Went 12 for 14 for 167 yards, and four touchdowns against Samford in a 59-6 wipeout. Is that considered a defeat for Samford AND son? That was wicked.

Summary

Here are the awards for the week:

Best Performance: Terrelle Pryor, Ohio State
Worst Performance: Jake Locker, Washington

Current Top Three at the position:

Locker
Luck (but it’s getting closer)
Mallett

We’ll be checking in on the DLF watch list periodically through the entire collegiate season. This will include not just quarterbacks, but the other skill position players as well.
